Closest I’ve ever heard. Thank you Isaac. Philippians 1:1 Elders/Bishops/Pastors and Deacons also 1St Tim 3. Acts 6:1-7 Widows neglect in the daily (7 days in a week that’s why 7 men) of the churches charities or monies. In Acts 4:4 5k men at this church the church of Jerusalem, the first church. 4:34-37 Monies laid at the Apostles feet. Jump to 6, church is growing and the Apostles can’t neglect their calling to prayer and ministry of the Word to serve tables ( the worldly needs of individuals). Widows needed money to pay obligations because they had no support (1st Tim 5:4-16). The Deacons and only the 7 Deacons have the stewardship of The LORDS Monies. Yes, the Scriptures apply today. Be obedient and follow as they did in Jerusalem and watch the church grow (v6-7).

That's a pretty good explanation of the role of deacons. I would add that the 7 men selected in Acts 6 were examples of deacons, however, they were not actually deacons. The qualifications of deacons are found in I Timothy 3:8-13. At verse 8, a deacon must first be "proved," tested, verified, qualified, etc. In Acts 6, the apostles first prayed for the 6 and secondly laid their hands on them which is how miraculous gifts were conferred to those who were not apostles. I say that to say this, the apostles did not ordain them to the office of deacons, but approved them to a particular task in the church which only lasted as long as the need required. If the Grecian widows remarried, moved, or even past away, the service of the 7 would no longer be needed. Furthermore, Stephen (Acts 7) and Philip (Acts 8; 21) are better understood to have been evangelists (ministers) than deacons. The difference being that a deacon is a located servant of a particular congregation of the church under the oversight of the elders of the church, whereas an evangelist could be local and a itinerant servant of the church. Of note, if the events of Acts 7 are fairly close to the events in Acts 6, Stephen martyrdom was the result of preaching rather than 'serving tables.' With this line if argument, Philip preaching to the city of Samaria

If churches predominantly met in homes, did their meetings have to have a deacon, elder or pastor present.? If not, then are the sheep clueless as to how to proceed with worship and reading the word , discerning truth, breaking bread together etc? Im asking this because there seems to be an unhealthy leaning towards elevating 'leadership' roles in our church. We are told that meeting with other Believers once a week in someone's house is only part of 'not forsaking the gathering'. But the completion of the Hebrews text meaning is in attending the Sunday service as well. Because , apparantly, that's when God is truly happy...when there are more of us together, submitting to deacons, elders and pastors in the 'house' of God. And ...the giving of tithes cant be properly managed in a house church setting.. Apparently....? So..I have a few questions as you can see...about what type of church meetings are scriptural and acceptable to God.?? Thanks for your time Guys...

We ARE the Church, the Body and assembly of Christ. The early believers met in houses. U don’t need a fancy building to carry out a spiritual role given by God. The believers would meet in houses in those days but they were all connected and knew eachothrr

...is further proof he was a minister rather than a deacon, and so soon following Acts 6. We know not what became of the remaining 5, but I would venture to say they saw to it that the Grecian widows received their daily allotment as long as there was a need. The Hebrew widows did not face these challenges being that the church was mostly Jews which is what gave rise to the issue. The 7 saw to the need of the Grecian widows, but not as deacons, but as ' servants' approved ('proved') for a task.

I have a question that I need help with. A deacon at my church looks at porn and I know it's a struggle for him and I don't condemn him because I am fighting this very sin. His brother is the Pastor and he knows he hasn't overcome this sin but he keeps him as a deacon because he told him it would affect him in a worse way if he took away his position. I am just thinking of that verse that says a deacon should be blameless. Is this a valid reason to find another church? Should I ask them about this? I don't want to cause division or strife but it's just something on my mind about how to proceed. Any advice appreciated.

I think this is challenging but a great question (as opposed to just ignoring things and preventing the opportunity for genuine relationships). I think it is a good idea to talk to the pastor, and to pray about it. I don't necessarily think it's a reason to find another church family/congregation because you will find sin happening in EVERY church. Not that we should just sit in that and continue to sin, but I really think the metaphor of "church family" is hard to keep, the same way it can be really hard to stay in relationship with blood relatives. Even knowing each other's dirt, we should decide to stay in relationship with each other, praying individually and together about our shortcomings, and thanking God for doing miraculous things even through all of our mess. Granted, this is an ideal and so much easier said than done, and your personal experiences bring in roadblocks to your own walk (andalso, I don't know you personally)... But I pray that God guide your path in a way that is so loving that the world will know you're a follower of Christ by how you love and endure such muddy situations like this. Blessings.

Elder means someone that's been more involved in the word of God, Just like the Bible basically says we need to respect and learn from elders, What im trying to say is that an elder has no special part to be more than just a regular Christian, in fact church does not mean calling, In fact the Bible says that we are all called but few are chosen, to the 7 churches in revelations, it's not talking about a church building, it just means to those people in that are Christians in that area, Where 2 or are gathered in my name there God's presence will be

You shall know them by their fruit. If a man is living in sexual sin and claiming to be a deacon or elder or pastor or whatever they call themselves, separate him and if he don't repent turn him over to satan for the destruction of the flesh so that his soul can be saved. 1 Corinthians 5:5
