Aced an interview and was asked when I could start. I told them I needed to give my current employer 2 weeks notice and didn't want to screw them by just walking out. They said to just come in for an induction day and we would go from there, which we arranged for my next day, which I was already off, and I could hand in my notice the day after when I was back in, then officially start 2 weeks later. Cut to that 'induction day' - I was told I now work there, was given my shifts for the next month, no gap for notice at my 'current job'. Told I'd been added to their payroll and, since they were paying in advance for some reason, I "OWE THEM" an additional 20 hours overtime that week (which would have been unpaid). I hadn't even seen a contract, never mind signed one. I stuck it out that day, called their HR the next morning and rescinded my acceptance. Never even handed my notice in, so just pretended it never happened and called it a learning experience. 😂😂

Quit in under 4 hours. On training night to load tires into a semi to be shipped from the factory. A big slug of a man drove the fork lift, was bringing the tires to me. And another loaders next to me. That was the extent of the training. I watched the other loader a few minutes and saw how he laced them together to pack them in. Periodically, I asked both the other loader and slug if the load looked OK. Each said it looked fine. So, I started loading myself. I worked about 3-3.5 hours and was just getting to the end of the trailer, and slug brings me another few dozen tires to load. I looked at the trailer and then at him and said it's already full. There is no way those tires are going into that trailer. He told me I needed to learn to load better, and I needed to unload and start over. I turned to the other loader, and he told me the tires needed loaded tighter to get them in. I turned back to the slug and said I checked periodically if it was OK, to which both agreed it was. I said I make more money than either of you on my construction laborers job, and I'm just doing this for a few months during shutdown. Since you both know how it's supposed to be done, DO IT YOUR F'ING SELF AND WALKED OUT! I didn't even go back to get the $50.

Does in the interview count?! It was "guaranteed acceptance" which was odd in itself. The ad was for office admin personnel but when i got there it was a small office in a business centre where rooms could be hired by the hour with several desks but none of them had phones, computers or even staff - just the interviewers, a single laptop and mobile phone, which they were using for the interview itself. In the space of about 3 minutes it became clear they were actually "hiring" self employed door to door sales personnel... one of the two interviewers noticed the shift in my body language and facial expression when i clocked on and queried the change. I told them precisely but politely how that was a huge nope from me and left.

Story 4 reaction: I'd ask the district manager, "Do you really think he'd be working worth a damn wondering if he's missing the chance to say 'goodbye' to his grandma? You say 'if he wants to keep his job he will,' but would he after that?" I'm sure the rest of us would be questioning staying too, I know I am right now. Don't like my attitude? So you want tonight to be EVEN shorter staffed?"

4:38 When I worked at a McDonald's, I once was allowed to leave, without me asking mind you, after I got berated by a customer because of something, I've tried to block that memory. My manager was more like the person telling that story, and we need people like them in leadership positions. Not the people who only care about the bottom line.

I quit on day 2 of a job with no notice once. It was an industrial maintenance job in a plant that recycled copper and aluminum wire. Removing the insulation from the wire created a dust that covered everything in the building, one of the many tasks we had on the maintenance shutdown shift was cleaning it up so it didn't jam up machines. I was asked to climb on top of a 3' vent pipe hanging from the ceiling 30' off the concrete floor, it is hanging with cables and it swings, I asked for a safty harness and was told we don't have them. I told him absolutely not and he said if i don't I'll get fired, I said well im not dying for this shitty job. He had someone else do it (which the guy did it) I left and called OSHA from the parking lot.

I'm a renovator, I went to work for a company that seemed great on paper but my first day I find out they don't give breaks and only give a half hour lunch (this is working with loud sounds, dust, fumes, and heat) which was bad enough but I walked out the second day when the foreman told me to stuff all the garbage into the walls and seal the wall up. Sorry but I've spent years learning and honing my skills and I don't cut corners.

Got hired as a tech at a local Apple store. I absolutely hated the anti repair atmosphere there. Kinda defeated hiring techs in the first place. When someone came in with a cracked screen on a iPhone we would just replace it with a "new" one in the back and literally toss the old one. I put new in quotations cuz they are not flawless, they are grade b from the factory line.

Corporations and retail don't care about you, your families, or your health (physical or mental). I work at a grocery store deli that crams me into as many shifts as they possibly can. This wouldn't be a problem if that area of the store wasn't so insanely understaffed and had a high turnover. New people will come in, thinking slicing meat and cheese won't be so bad. But after having to deal with 10 people at once by themselves, they bail. And I don't blame them. They aren't properly prepared to handle that kind of stress, and there aren't enough people to train them how to. We're also expected to help out in the bistro and bakery, even if we've had no training. The only reason I stay is because I'm given a tuition reimbursement to help pay for college. I've had a panic attack on the job (thankfully, there were no customers). One of my current managers bitched and moaned at me because I needed to take a day off to go to a therapist, even though it was his fault for scheduling me to work on a day that I had labeled unavailable for that reason. With this being the holidays, it's only going to get worse. Hopefully, when the Publix down the road opens, it won't be so bad. Knock on wood.

4 hours. Started without a trial shift. Arrived and was supposed to do 5 hours. Manager was supposed to show up at the same time but didn't. She never showed, no one seemed to bat an eye or ask in the group chat where she was. They were desolate. I only served about 3 tables. Their food was weird, like a place trying to be different but with bad ideas. A vimpto flavoured burger for gods sake. Vimpto is a fruity soda. They had awkward ways of doing things and The staff had weird vibes and they got a guy who didn't know what he was doing to train me. It had already been discussed that i didn't need training as i was also working at a somewhat more fancy resturaunt somewhere else for the past 2 years. That guy is now the partner of my brother in law. The stories i hear. Also i was supposed to only be a bartender, which obviously wdnt out the window imediately. Also the one girl who out herself in charge while the manager wasnt there was kind of b*tchy and i didn't want any of her attitude. Left 4 out if 5 hours in and am so glad i did. Also i got paid for those 4 hours but not for the higher amount we had agreed. I never went to fix it because i just wanted gone. Also whee i have been working for the past 2 years has a very family mentality. This place did not. I only wanted to change so that i didn't have to commute. Oh well. Sad thing is i remember going there when i was a kid for birthday dinners. It had a different owner and name. The newones ruined the dark wood interior with plain yellow walls.

Got a job at a rent to own place, discovered how much they gouge their customers for and that I would be expected to call customers who were near the end of their payment period to encourage them to to buy more. Found out that customers were paying three to four times the value of the full price of the item but that the company was haggling retailers to sell at or often under cost, meaning the retailer was selling the item for less than they paid. Did not suit my morals I left on the third day.

Before the interview, the place just sounded made up. The dude that called Nd set up the interviews name was the exact same as a celebrity and the "personality test" they sent for me to fill out to see if i would "fit in" also seemed very off. So ibdid a bit of research and started to laugh. They have a large number of 1 star reviews and as i read theough them it was clear these people have a history of shady stuff going on. Not only that but the "good" reviews were all those generic cookie cutter kinds that looked to have been bought. Im not gonna work someplace with that bad of a reputation
