The easiest Way to monitor your input as well as getting audio from your PC is to plug in an RCA cable into both 2 track in and out, and pressing the USB / 2TR to phones / control room button down. That way, you can monitor everything you're putting into the mixer, as well as what's coming back from the computer via USB.

Great video Ray. I have been using the q802usb for voice recording and did not have exactly the same problem but when you reviewed some of the fixes you used that got me thinking and I was able to solve the problem. I had developed a low sub 80Hz hum that apparently is common and was able to correct that by turning off the output / monitoring which apparently was causing some type of internal feedback. Hi Ray, thanks for your useful tips. I have a question for you: I am sending in channel 1and 2 the stereo output of a Roland TD17KVX drum module and in channel 3 and 4 the audio from an iPod. I want to do two things with these inputs: 1) I want a specific mix o the Roland module AND the iPod music to hear through the headphones output [ a bit more Roland and a bit less music] for monitoring when I am playing - 2) I want another specific mix of the Roland and iPod inputs to go to the pc, in this case the DAW is Audacity [a bit more music and a bit less Roland] to record the drums I am playng + the audio track. I can't find a configuration on the Xenyx 12022USB that allows me to set two different outputs at the same time. Do you have a solution to my problem? Thanks!
@RayOrtega
3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Kamarillo. Sounds like you want to get different levels for each output. Try setting up your mix for how you want it to sound in your headphones (more drum less music) and then try to get two separate channels into Audacity so that in post production you can set the levels how you want for that mix. You'll need to pan the channels hard left and hard right so that you can get a stereo channel in Audacity that you can later break out into mono parts (left for drum, right for music) and set you level. Or if stereo is an issue, just record channel 1/2 into Audacity and add the music track after.

Thanks, Gordon. You're using a condenser mic which is more likely than a dynamic mic to pick up every little sound in the room. One thing to try would be a dynamic like a Shure SM58 podhelp.me/sm58zon but that doesn't mean all noise will be eliminated necessarily, environmental noise is still noise but a dynamic will do a better job of rejecting it.

So I have an input (mic on headset) and output (headphone) where I'd like to hear myself, as well as game and other players audio (from my computer). I have some music background knowledge but completely new to mixers. Thanks!

4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Terry, I can't be 100% sure on all the things you want to do but a mix-minus setup will allow you to bring multiple sources of audio into the mixer and then only send back what you want to the stream. You headset also have to have an XLR connection to use with a mixer. There is a cheaper version of this mixer that has a 1/8" input but I don't think it will allow you to mix-minus. You should check this out amzn.to/2QxPylc (affiliate) from what I've seen, this is what many pro streamers and it seems to handle almost all routing needs.

I can input mic into mic1, input my pc audio (game/chat/videos) into one of the line in (3/4 or 5/6), have my headphones plugged into phones so I can hear it there, and then output the mic audio through the fx out back to the computer, with the fx channel turned off on all other inputs. So the pc would see a headphone out, a mic in and I would get my voice and pc audio through headphones. I think I have it figured out I just need 6 or so 1/4" to 1/8" adapters. Could all this be avoided by using the non-USB 802 Mixer with Main Out connected into a USB audio interface like Scarlett Solo? Then the audio in/out on the computer assigned to the Solo, and headphones connected to the Solo. That way wouldn’t the Mixer’s mic output(without computer audio) be fed into the Solo and picked up on the headphones, while the computer’s audio output goes to the Solo only, and gets picked up on the headphones? Sorry if this sounds confusing. It’s still very confusing to me too!
@RayOrtega
4 жыл бұрын
Yes that's kind of what I show when using a mix-minus with the analog outputs but just go direct to computer. However if you had a Scarlett you could interface with that too but most people would have one or the other. If you had the solo and needed more channels, using the 802 would still limit you to a mixed signal, upgrading to a true multichannel like an upper level Scarlett would benefit you more.

I am in a Band, and we have parts of music that we have to play through the Notebook, due to the lack of a keyboarder, so its a Wav-File. This has to be send to the PA, that also is connected to the singer. But we got our Drummer some In-Ear-Monitoring device, so he can hear a click for the metronome in addition to the Pre-Recorded Wav-File, the Singer, and the Guitar/Bass. But we got a big Problem: When we plug in The Guitar and Bass, we get the Guitar/Base sound also put out to our PA. Also we get the Click. Is it possible to set up this thing, so that we can have a dedicated Track for our Drummer, and another one without the click for use running at the same time?

I've got a Mackie Profx12 and it does the same thing. The only way I have gotten around this is buying a Monitor amp. You need a powered Headphone Monitor Amp ($50) connect it going to the Monitor Send on your Mixer. You'll then have the ability to monitor all the channels. Then connect a line from your mixer to the audio out on your computer. Make sure you have a good soundcard. I don't have the best soundcard and i get a low end rumble. Make sure you pay attention to your Mute buttons. Because if you are muted on your audio skype/discord. You can still hear it but the recording software won't. This is a stupid problem that I've been battling for 3 years. They need to release a mixer that allows you to monitor using USB. The second you plug your mixer into the USB. It becomes your soundcard. All the sound is already in the mixer. I Should be able to hook up the monitor Amp and hear the levels in the monitor channel without extra connections.......

All the instruction you need for a mix-minus is at thepodcastersstudio.com/mixminus. There isn't anything different that you need to know other than maybe the aux send is labeled FX but they are the same in this setup. From there you can use Call Recorder (mac) or Total Recorder (Win) to record your podcast and/or use the USB connection of this mixer to record into software on your computer.

Now I'm not sure if I want to get this mixer. I don't need to monitor audio all the time. Am I able to at least test it out with headphones while balancing my levels? I have the same audio technica atr 2100 mic as well.
@RayOrtega

This is only for USB and you can choose which direction to monitor, just not both at once. So you can check your levels in your headphones but then if you want to hear what is coming from the computer and not hear your headphones then you'll need to switch. But of course you can just use my solutions if you need to have it both ways.

I'm trying to second this board as a sort of mix amp, but when I connect my PC's to it with a 3.5 - 1/4 aux, the sound is very distorted and almost nonexistent. Have you had any experience with doing such things or any tips?

Haven't tried that exact setup but if it's just not coming through to your PC then the connection is just bad. Try another cable or the USB
@patlaw53

You're probably sending a line level output on your mixer to the microphone level input on your computer. If your computer doesn't have a line level input (most newer ones don't), you will have a difficult time interfacing them without getting distortion. You may need to get an external sound card, like a Lexicon Alpha.

Thank you! Very helpful for me as I'm a complete novice and learning. Trying to setup with Zoom (Skype-like) web conferencing. I have not yet had a successful test run with this Xenyx Q802USB and my wireless Samson lav mic today...but this was really helpful. There's no way I would've be able to "find" the more nuanced issues, let alone solve (get around) them. Wish me luck. I think I'm missing a cable for output? I only have the USB cable which came with it. I don't actually know exactly what kind of cables (or splitter) to buy for "phones" or "main out."
@PodcastersRoundtable

HI, Laura. Do you actually need to hear yourself in this case? If not, you could just interface Zoom via the USB and listen back to other people coming in from Zoom. Or you could use the output of you computer to connect your headphones so that you could hear Zoom and then you could listen to yourself through the mixer. Maybe two other solutions to the issue using the cables you already have.

Podcasters' Roundtable After grabbing a driver from the Behringer website, I think the mixer (and mic) is at least recognized by my pc now. I did grab a 1/4" to 3.5mm cable and a splitter for my headphones for the loop setup though, near future. I'd like to monitor sound visually at least during the live meetings, even if I don't need to hear myself during/live. I do need to hear myself to make sound quality adjustments before and after the live meetings though. Thanks again! This is quite a process for the novice like me.

Audacity can see a waveform and record just fine, I can't have live playback? Surely this doesn't have to be this complicated. What is the point of the USB cable? Is it even necessary? Is it out or in? I bought his 802 mixer for recording and sure it records but I can't listen live? I can hook up 3 drum machines, an effects module and play this back on my home stereo but I can't even hook up 1 small stereo source and play it back and record at the same time.

Hi there and thanks for the great vid. Too bad that this mixer has the in/out issue on it's USB-port. Do you know which of the Behringer mixers do not have this issue and still offer effects? Your trick with the mix-minus works but in that case I can't record the effects which makes this bonus on the mixer...well, obsolete (which is shouldn't be;). Therefore I hope you can give me some advise on which of the Behringer mixers offers both the simultanously in/out USB port and effects;)

I don't see this as a problem because: Skype compresses audio quality to the point of it becoming a hissy garbled mess anyways. So any settings you make on the mixer, which may sound great to you, whether it be through the audio monitor, audacity, or OBS, will probably sound like complete dogshit through Skype. Soooooo, the only way to truly check your voice quality is to use the Skype sound test service. Same thing goes for OBS if you use the mixer for your livestreaming: OBS has it's own sound settings such as noise gate and noise suppression, which again may affect final sound quality. The only way to check your sound quality is to make a few quick video/sound recordings to be sure. As for peoples' complaints about unbearable noise floor on the 802USB: Dynamic mic you have to crank the mic gain to max, however the noise floor is non-existent! I don't have a condenser mic, but I've read something about the 802USB only supplying 12v on phantom power, therefore to compensate for the lack of power, you crank the mic gain to max, which causes the noise. Now, I *think* there's a way to make it 48v, I'm just not sure how.
@RayOrtega

Quality of the audio is a separate issue which is not addressed by this video. Yes, Skype compresses the heck out of the audio. But this video is about monitoring audio in both directions which is important for making sure you catch problems (ground loop, dropouts, etc) when they happen. And to do that you need to be able to hear both your voice and the voice of the other person. You cannot do that on this mixer using USB by default and this vid shows you how to overcome that. Thanks for watching and the feedback!
