Excellent look into the process. Learned a lot here and plan to make some micro changes to my own practice routine. Thank you Janek!

Hey Janek, question for your next Q&A: What is the biggest diference between playing seated and standing up ? At the beginning i had problems playing standing up basically because the lack of anchor points so i had less control of the instrument, i still have that issue but not that often as the beginning. Keep up the good work and i hope the blog will continue pass the 365 days mark.

I've been working on a similar 3 up 3 down exercise in 16th notes at about 40bpm. Actually at that tempo 16th notes are going by at the same rate triplets are at 60bpm it is a little trickier though since you aren't always starting the figure on the downbeat.

I'll sometimes start exercises at 40 bpm. Slow tempos rule.

Hi Janek! Thanks for your vlog. it is a huge inspiration to me. One question, What metronome app do you use? Do you prefer an smartphone app or a metronome device itself? Thanks a best regards

Chema Pérez Romero if he's using the one I think he is using, I believe the one he's using is literally called metronome. It's a really cool metronome app, and it gives a lot of control. Solid 4.5/5 from me, given that there are a lot of features in the pro version that you have to pay for. But overall it's a really good metronome.

Funny enough I was doing that melodic minor triplet exercise this morning. These exercises really discipline the fingers and force you to work out the most efficient shape of the chords. They also implant the scale /chord sound in the mind. I'm not very good at reading so I write the melody into band in a box and memorise it. The MAJOR CHORD you propose relative to the FOUR BAR SECTION OF THE EXERCISE does not really sound right though, OR IS THAT JUST MY EARS? (I am assuming that the first for bars relative to the C major chord is built around the scale of G melodic minor).

These things are a lot of fun to practice, but personally I I like to practice Musical things first, while fresh, getting the moist out of it before getting tired, and do these kind of exercises and metronome exercises last, but everyone is different!

evokki69600 Unless you're joking (in which case, :D and sorry!), he's saying his aim might be to play the exercise at 100 bpm in all 12 keys :)

Yes I meant this as a joke simply because I thought it was funny :D. When I was winding the video back to the excercise, it happened to start from the point where he's setting the "technical goal" (in all 12 keys, starting from 60 Bpm going to 100 Bpm in increments of 10 bpm) of the excercise :).

What I’ve found best for me is to have no practice routine at all. I just pick up the bass when I feel the urge to play. Sometimes it’s a few hours a day everyday or maybe just once in a week. Whenever I’ve forced myself to practice it’s always unproductive and the reverse when it’s come naturally.
