The only other guitar that Gibson can bring back for Hetfield is the So What/More Beer 1984 Explorer with the original Dirty Fingers pickups. It's the guitar he used to tour for Ride The Lightning. You can see it in the Live at The Day on The Green show. Which is something I would LOVE to have. The 1984 Explorer is the iconic version of that shape that no one talks about. And is the guitar that Hetfield based the ESPs off of. So the Eet Fuk and Fuk em Up have the 1984s to thank for existing!

The guitars must be good because they’re always out of stock everywhere lol. It’s been on my list to try since about 2015, everyone I know that’s tried it says the guitar is great and the pickups are as about as tight as you’d expect for what LoG music requires!

They sound like a dimarzio pickup to begin with, neck pickup would sound great with any type of music and the bridge does the chugs as you would expect. A seymour duncan jb would sound similar but be more versatile imo

I know what it will look like, it'll be insanely expensive custom shop LPs and Vs for doctors and lawyers who only know the Black Album, wealthy collectors, and maybe a touring musician or two who think a KH signature Gibson is cool (and hey, it might be, but it won't be worth it for 99% of people). And how pissed is Mustaine that KH is stealing his Gibson thunder?

The Gibson Iron Cross project turned into the ESP Iron Cross probably sometime in 2008, as the ESP version was released in 2009. James even had an un-aged Gibson prototype that showed up in a photo or two from the Death Magnetic recordings. In the topic of Gibson or Epiphone versions of an ESP model, Epiphone has pretty much replicated the ESP MX-220 model with the now discontinued 1984 Explorer. That guitar has the same 2 knob control placement as on all of ESP's explorer models (authentic body shape or not), EMG pickups and black hardware. This differs from the Gibson 84 Explorers that had 3 knobs, passive Gibson pickups and chrome or nickel hardware. The hardware color and pickup choice could be a "metal guitar" decision, but along with the control layout it shows me that Gibson has not been afraid to take inspiration from brands that have been inspired by Gibson in the past. Hopefully, if Hetfield somehow gets involved with Gibson, they release Explorer's and V's before any Les Paul's. A Hetfield Explorer model with the authentic body shape has at this point been unavailable for over 20 years, and James is most likely the most recogniceable Explorer player ever. From a business perspective doing anything other than an Explorer first seems like a bad desicion to me. A white V would make sense, not a replica of his Electra, but an all white V. Hetfield has used quite a few Gibson V's on tour in the last decade.
@dubster82
3 жыл бұрын
I agree. I think a Hetfield collection should basically be an all white 70s flying V with white EMGs, a vintage sunburst flying v with black Het Set, a black normal explorer with white guard and a natural version and a better white 84' explore than they've managed previously (84 reissues don't have the knobs in the right place and you can tell them a mile off) whilst the epiphones could be similar but with the EPI 84 style to riff of his MX220's, slap on a coloured headstock

I think we can thank Joe Bonamassa for a lot of the detent between makers with a single artist. Of course ESP/LTD is going to not squawk about Kirk doing his thing with Gibson, better to let Kirk do a thing with Gibson for a line of classic axes, aged finishes on some, and with huge price tags than be without Kirk at all, so they can keep doing pointy guitars with a lot of graphics. Kirk's an up & up guy so I would imagine that he was very much trying to keep the two things separate, and remain loyal to ESP/LTD because he was very involved in all those guitars and not just putting some lipstick on a certain model and saying "Good enough." Definitely do the giveaways on the channel!

I can not wait for the JH guitars, they will definitely come out with an 84 reissue, but I also think they will come out with a reissue of the ESP MX series guitars. As you know Gibson sued ESP over the MX design. After ESP was sued they only produced the MX series style guitars in Japan under the Edwards brand. Although recently they discontinued the Japanese Edwards EX guitars without a pick guard. Coincidence I think not

What I think his "KH Collection" will be first is similar to the Slash collection. Standard USA models with Slash spec aesthetic applied. In the case of Kirk I'd see 3 50's LP standards, trans Black, trans red with maybe gold Hardware and EMG. and lemon drop with burst buckers with the neck flipped and mismatched knobs. Then a black 70's standard flying V with EMG's and hopefully a blacked out USA Custom. I think they'll aim for the staples first before going to far with anything crazy.
