Slovakia made this kind of stuff illegal. Every time a position becomes available or a new one is created, employers have to report it to the local ''job centre''. Employers can advertise open positions online or find employees through those job centres (they often get extra money from the state for employing unemployed people from job centres) but they can only advertise the actual open/new positions. They can't advertise something that does not exist. It falls under ''false advertising''. Another good thing is that they must state the salary in their adverts. I know it's a thing in some countries where employers advertise a job but they will only tell you what the salary is when you come to an interview.

That's a bit extreme since there's many legitimate reasons why postings remain evergreen. In my experience, if you're entering the workforce with a STEM/Economics/Finance degree AND a high GPA then you will have multiple job offers. If you're an experienced worker and you're at the top of your field with experience and/or credentials then you will be sought after by recruiters and have multiple competitive offers. But if you have a liberal arts degree and/or a mid/low GPA or if you have years of experience but haven't risen through the ranks then you can expect to be flipping burgers or classified as "undesirable." The free market economy rewards drive and ambition and absolutely punishes mediocrity without mercy....
@Imjeezus

Yeah agree. If it’s illegal for a company to cook their books and report more revenue than there actually is, then it should be just as illegal to report more open positions. These employers might not be directly scamming applicants, but they are scamming their shareholders who think the business they’re investing in is growing more than it actually is. Crazy that this is happening in an era when most fortune 500 companies are reporting record breaking revenue quarter after quarter. Greed is seriously out of control.

Tips that always got me jobs within 2-3 months. When reading the job ad, pick out the key words and phrases in it (some get repeated more than once in the job ad). Then put those key words and phrases in your cover letter and resume. BUT NEVER more than 3 times in your cover letter and resume combined - the ATS machine the company is using to field resumes will know you are doing it on purpose and will reject the resume. What I did, say the job ad mentioned needing “writing skills” three times THEN I would put the phrase “writing skills” ONCE in my cover letter and TWICE in my resume - ALWAYS write the keywords and phrases in your cover letter and resume EXACTLY as they are stated in the job ad. ALSO, for your cover letter, concerning the company you are applying to, READ about the company on their website and put a bit of that information in your cover letter related to why you want to work for them. And how you can benefit from them as an employee. Also, put some important skills (related to the job ad) in a short paragraph in the cover letter. For interviews, Google questions an interviewer might ask, as many as you think - I wrote down 50. And make answers for them all, but in a natural way to say to the interviewer. Good luck!😊

It's not a comparable example. In dating from year to year not a lot changes about you or your life. In the labour market in a few months, you could be hired, may be more geographically restricted due to unforeseen events, may need a high salary as the cost of living keeps skyrocketing, changed careers, started a education program. Beyond 6 months whatever candidate pool they may have built would be worthless and need to be redone.

I'm in the same boat as you. I was laid off last year and can't find a job for over a year now. I've been through countless interviews only to get ghosted then see the same job get reposted. I've seen some jobs reposted repeatedly from the time I started job hunting. The recruiters sometimes email me about their new opening and then I ask them if they have any follow up after the last few interviews. They basically forgotten that I already had an interview or more for that position. The unprofessionalism employers have these days just make me want to give up and stop trying.

Out of 150 applications a large number of these are listings that have been taken down and reposted numerous times. Clearly with no intent to actually fill the role. This creates a lot of wasted time and frustration for us job searchers.
