I will always remember a wonderful hot day in Monpazier ESE of Bergerac, France. As we walked past the grandfather and mantelpiece clock repair shop at 12 noon, the clocks all began striking a few seconds apart. I turned to my wife and said "What time is it, Eccles?"🤣 This is priceless.

When I was at school we were avid followers of the Goons and, in the days without domestic recorders, the jokes and sketches were regurgitated (complete. with goon voices) from our collective memory. We must have driven our teachers mad! “What time is it ?” was always responded to with “I’ve got it written down on this piece of paper” or “Quick!write it down” i said it to my wife recently. Being younger than me and not brought up with the Goons she tough I was mad and is gathering evidence to have me sectioned under the Mental Health Act. RIP Sellers, Secombe and Milligan.❤🤣😢

Milligan helped me with his humour from going insane around my family. His simple logic is beyond brilliance and is sadly missed. Comedy is as we know it dead on arrival these days. True comedy died in the eighties once political correctness raised its ugly head.

@@colinmiles9390 well obviously i do know about those before my time because I’m watching the goons here now, and all the other episodes are available too. Theyre very good, but so are lots of other things. You just have to look a bit harder. I suppose the goons were fairly unusual in being on a mainstream channel whiich everyone listened to, as there weren’t many. Not everyone got the goons sense of humour then and not everyone does now. These days it would be more niche and have a cult following. By the way, every single video on youtube of anything more than thirty years old has a comment saying how things were better then, despite still clearly being able to listen or watch it now.

Some of its great but there's still good stuff astound now.. I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue.. Bleak Expectations... Lots on Radio 4 extra.. Thats where I'm currently listening to the Goon Show, Round The Horne is far better than the much milder Beyond Our Ken but that was still good, most of my favorites were the older comedy stars The MarxBrothers. Will Hay.. Abbott and Costello.. The road to films with Hop and Crosby even some of Lewis and Martins, and of course Laurel and Hardy, lm not struck on Chaplin tho, he had his moments but was too maudlin for my tastes. I'm lucky l like comedy from savage satire to slapstick as long as its done well. Peter Glaze from Crackerjack ( if you read that out loud you'll have to repeat it lol ) was underrated and he beat Homer Simpson in saying DOH! He was so funny with Leslie Crowther. I can watch all that with glee and still enjoy Frankie Boyles predatory bloodspilling satire. Great innit.
