You are correct, I must have messed up my number of packs! The $ per R/M is correct I used the 14 in a pack so 14 into $119.95 is the $8.56 that i ended up with.

@@ozmtg also the price of the bundle is wrong. Amazon has them for preorder for 80 USD. at that conversion 5.72 per rare/mythic. plus the set booster gamble. thats why that product is going for over "retail" ATM. Great Product cant wait to open mine.

Thank you for the review and breakdown. I was wandering through my LGS this morning on the way out to work and grabbed a basic 8 pack bundle for the box and spindown...but the cards as a fun gamble. :) Made me at least feel a bit better about my purchase lol. Even though I got the basic bundle as a knee jerk purchase.

Well presented analysis on cost per rare slot (aside from the bundle number issue - room for improvement there). And you are right in pointing out that it is a gambling experience when purchasing these products as this is my version of scratchies. I especially like how you pointed out to firstly look at what you can afford to buy. It all be good to see more of these product comparisons for future sets.

I'd recommend going to a Prerelease, often people will trade / giveaway multiples of commons and uncommons. Buying boxes is fun but you need to spend time trading / selling any multiples you have to get a full set. Buying singles is usually the cheaper option.

Maybe a stupid question but as a semi beginner i am loving this set and instead of just playing it online i kinda wanne get my hands on some of these cards in real life. Now i also very much like the sensation of opening packs and trading/selling cards with fellow MTG enjoyers! Do u think in this case buying one set and one draft boosterbox would a good idea or what would be better? (Goal: collecting a good amount of the set by opening products and/or trading and selling (not just buying singles cause i love opzning packs haha))
@ozmtg

For what you are looking for I'd recommend Set boosters, they have a higher chance at more rare / mythic slots and they have more foil and ichor treatments per pack. So a bit more variety and the chance at a better pulls. That being said if you go to a draft or sealed event at your LGS there is a good chance at getting some decent value, plus making connections with other players which can lead to good trades.
@jeffherman6459

To give a proper evaluation you need to factor it the full chance of rare mythics. The way you have done your evaluation set boosters were way overpriced at the $/rare.
@ozmtg

I've used the guaranteed slots as a sort of base line to help start comparing each product. They all offer different outcomes whether it's higher value art/foiling, a chance at more R/M or even a product that has value in drafting as an experience. The main point is to buy what suits your needs and budget.

Buying boxes is always a gamble, the problem with boxes is if you want to collect the set, you have to spend extra time to trade or sell your multiples. Singles would probably be the cheapest option, I'd recommend going to a Prerelease event as more than often people will give / trade away commons and uncommons which can help you get started.

This is going to lead you down the wrong path. There are 1 guaranteed, 1 foil wild card, 2 traditional wild cards, and the token wild card in a set booster. It's a stated 25% chance that youll get a street fighter rare, and a 25% chance for a list c/u/r/m. The street fighter rares alone are 6 per box. We've never seen a 5 rare set pack before, but the one wildcard/one token wildcard slot packs were 1.4 rares per pack. Which is about 12 per box. Or 42 vs the 30 stated here. Then the question is do you want foil full art lands as well. You get 3 pet set box on average, 12 per collector booster box, 50 for the compleat bundle.
@ozmtg

I'm working on guaranteed R/M as a base to build from for each product, the set packs are a gamble, each pack has a chance at extra R/M but chance does not equal guaranteed. Each product offers different draw points too, it all comes down to what you want from the product.

As with all MTG products they are a gamble to open and buy at the right price. If you can get a good deal that's the best advice! Singles are the most cost effective way to get a few cards you need but you miss out on all the fun on hitting big or loosing hard!
