I've ordered my first pocket watch to practice on. It has the Unitas 6497 movement. Wish me luck!

Personally, I'd go for the ZiM 2602. Being based on the French LIP R-26 from 1908, it's as simple as a watch movement could possibly be and as tough as old boots. Due to the millions upon millions of examples made as the USSR's "people's watch", spare parts and movements are both readily available and cheap (as low as under $10), even though the last examples were made in 2006. It's also my single favorite movement due to its unique history and legacy. Great video!

I have one that runs in a UFO case. I don't think they have a shockproof balance and probably because of only 2 spokes on the balance, they look like they run really slow. Honestly I think I will try with old timexs. I am bidding on a bunch today.

@@OffGridInvestor While the original ZiM model isn't shockproofed, later variants made by Slava and Raketa do have shockproofing in addition to either 16 or 17 jewels (vs. the ZiM's 15). It beats at a smooth, steady 18000 bph (very in-keeping for its design), but it has both a screw-less glucydur balance and an actual Breguet overcoil hairspring. That was a feature typically only seen on luxury watches! Also, later ZiM 2602s did have three spokes instead of two on their balance wheel. However, if you are absolutely adamant about getting a Timex, get one that actually has jewels in it. The pin-lever movements that they're famous for can't be serviced in any real sense.

Hi Sir I just bought a Loreo with seagull movement, it always stop after a few minutes (30 mins or so ) on the same 52/53 second spot, is this considered a wasted watch? A bit shake and works again but same stopping position afterwards. Is it still a simple fix?

Hard to say not seeing the watch, but it could be that the hands are hacking maybe the indexes, this is quite simple to solve, this vid can help kzitem.info/news/bejne/w6COv2VqhXOCqGk also could be you need to do a service and the problem will be gone.

Ahhh. So you must've read my comment. I'm still going to try something like timex or something junky without jewels. Probably haven't mentioned that I can write letters so small that I have to use magnification. I've got very fine mitor movement and good mechanical competency. And joblots of timexs are very cheap.
