The difference between a crisis of normal anguish (the one that doesn't make you want to run to the hospital) and the panic attack (the one that makes you want to run away) ... is a thought. The panic attack is distinguished by being sure that something very bad is happening to you; that your life is in danger, feeling of drowning due to lack of air, that you are going crazy or about to have a heart attack of tachycardia, and all these thoughts, are a lie.
