I’m very very lucky that my parents can take care of my bun 24/7 and I don’t have to transport her anywhere. However, it does mean I can’t take vacations with my parents. So I hope to someday be able to take my bunny and my parents on a vacation together. I live in Alaska, and we don’t have any bunny boarding or advertised professional bunny sitters. But me being the overly cautious bun-parent I am, I have a very hard time trusting any strangers with taking care of my bun.

I loved watching this. I'm going to visit a friend for a few days. Fortunately, I can take Pebbles with me. My mom is staying with my cats. I think leaving some instructions for her will be really helpful. I hadn't thought of that. Pebbles is very good in the car. I'm also taking my special needs cat. He's not so good at travelling but we manage.

My wife and I camp a lot. Where we go, our bunny goes. It's fun hearing fellow campers ask" Is that a RABBIT?" Our bun loves camping with us and loves being outside. We do keep him in a portable fenced area like a small dog would be in. We did have a friend that had kennels and a small animal section for our bunny but it burned down. Now he just goes with us. We are retired, so we do travel. It does make it a challenge sometimes, but once your bunny gets used to traveling and camping, they do fine.

Same. Went camping last weekend and Zipper the fluff head rabbit went with. Our rabbit looks like an English Spot got lucky with a Lionhead. The person in charge of the camp ground said it was the first time a rabbit was camping there. And his grandkid thought he looked like Pikachu even though the colors aren’t the same.

The one that helped us to take care of bunnies when we were on vacation is an experienced lady that works in the local shelter. She has 10+ years of experience in rabbit boarding. She charges us CAD$44 per day for a pair of bunnies. She provided green mixed with few kinds of veggies everyday. She also allowed few hours of free roaming for them under supervision. I am glad to have her assistance while we’re away from home.❤

I take care of my bunny always. I don't "vacation" but I have had to leave my home recently because of Hurricane Idalia. So I packed up my bunny, just like a member of the family. I put Cocoa in a carrier, grabbed everything needed for him and hopped in the car to drive to a relative's (empty) house. This is our yearly hurricane preparedness plan and it works. I don't think Cocoa is too happy in the car though! Lol😂 He likes being home! I agree with everything you said Lorelai! Your channel is excellent for reference and I have referred other bunny parents to you. 💜 to you and Lennon. Thank you!

When I went away for a few weeks last year I had a couple friends share bunny-sponsibilities. I created a nice little short video called 'how to pick up a bun' in case they needed to take him to the vet. Of course I got my method from you, but I added a little instruction to beg for forgiveness at the end. Also fun anecdote; My friend messaged so worried saying 'I think your bunny threw up! What should I do?' and I was thinking... "Can rabbits throw up? I don't think they can...." She sent me a photo. he has just peed out of his litterbox and it had stained the carpet in an almost vomitty color. Some things you just don't think to tell people.

I went with a local vet hospital the first time I left my bunny. It was okay but I question how much attention she got. I’m going on a trip in December and I opted for hooking proper bunny boarding where all bunnies are vaccinated and supervised and have a large xpen. Veggies and hay included too with good reviews. I definitely feel better about it than the vet hospital.

I’ve usually had friends or family visit once or twice a day, and use the bunny camera to make sure the bunny is happy. My bunny is regularly alone for ten hours a day when I’m working so I know he does pretty well so long as he has food, water and climate control. I wish I could afford bunny boarding. My vet offers it but it’s like 50-100 bucks a day.

Sitters get free lodging and sometimes use of our vehicle in exchange for free pet sitting. Everyone is background checked and ID verified and has a detailed profile. They tend to be retired people or people who can work remotely and want affordable travel options. We conduct video interviews till we find someone we think is perfect and have had 5 or 6 terrific sitters so far. They come a day early to get trained up and send photos and videos daily. It’s been a game changer for us!! 🐰❤

Hi Lorelei! Our two free roam bunnies Mando & Lorein appreciate you and your chanel! They are now 1 year old and when we went on vacation in spring this year, we had a three friends that they know come in mornings, daytime and evenings each for about an hour to clean feed, play and cuddle, it worked really well. Now that (sadly) my parents dog passed away, we are starting to train them to look after our babies in their home. We are planning visits to my parents with Mando & Lorien and bring all of their favorite things and a gate (my parents have a very big house and we want to limit their free roaming to only a part of the house) and stay there with them for a couple of hours and go home with the buns again. Maybe we leave them there once over night as a tester before we leave them for a week or two. Any recommendations on what to do with them during those visits, just let them be, or play their favorite games, anything to look out for during those visits? Thanks so much for your help!

I wish there were nice bunny facilities like those in your videos near me! I have such horrible anxiety about leaving one of my three rabbits....he is a solo bunny, because he doesn't get along with our other male. Our other two rabbits are a male and female pair, and they are okay as long as they have someone checking in on them, since they are together. We try to take him with us most of the time, but the one time where we could not, we paid my sister-in-law to come and stay overnight for the week and take care of all (5) of our pets. That made me feel so much better. His sister loves animals and had a rabbit when she was a kid, so I wasn't worried about them. She sent us pics and kept us updated on the status of our pets the entire trip, so I was very happy with it. I would definitely recommend if you can to let your bunnies stay at home while you're gone. If you have one of those nice bunny facilities, that's an option if you have to, but I think the bunnies are a lot more comfortable not being surrounded by unfamiliar rabbits/smells/sounds/people. I will say though that all 5 of our animals are very needy the week after we get back lol. It makes me feel a bit guilty, but they always recover after a week or so of extra love. So be prepared to spend a lot of time with them when you get back just to make sure they are okay and feel loved

We did a bunny hotel before, but not again as when we picked him up there were dogs there looking through the windows at the rabbits, and exercise times (as they were kept in hutches in a garage) was outside and although secure, there were cats and dogs around, I really regret it so never again. Now we have a bunny friendly sitter who comes to our house twice a day, and doesn't mind my crazy bunny person 12 page instruction sheet ;) Unfortunately, there isn't an option for a full time bunny sitter, so it's the best option for our 2 boys and least stressful for them. I hadn't thought about the recognising stasis early that you mentioned could get missed, so might go and get an indoor security camera so I can see them when away.

Actually, looking after a bunny, or any pet, for a friend on holiday, is a great way to test out whether you are pet ready for yourself. Because it's a defined period of time, usually short, and there's no long term commitment. It's got to be much better than getting a pet, thinking you really want it, and then regretting it. Adopt, don't shop. but check yourself out with your friend's bunny first.
@princesspikachu3915

Adopting a rabbit from a rescue is more expensive than simply going to a pet store or even the local Rural King. $25 at the Rural King versus $150 at the local rescue for a similar looking rabbit. Most people are definitely going to get their pet from the cheapest source and rescues have a bad reputation for rejecting applications just because they have an employee that doesn’t like you or they find something wrong. Elderly people have a hard time getting rescue pets. Why adopt when the process is too complicated and you probably won’t be seen as suitable to get a pet anyway? Adopting is too much of a hassle and expensive and humiliating too. If you rescue you’re better off finding someone personally who needs to rehome an animal instead of going through an organization. That’s what I do.

I have a bunny, named Oreo, and I take him everywhere with me. This summer, I had a friend who was willing to bunnysit while I was gone overseas for a vacation, and she was awesome. Oreo is very social to people and loves them, and the best part is that my friend has roommates who loves animals and a large place for him to explore. I did have to make a list for certain food preferences since he was a picky eater, and the schedule for medication and walks were very specific 😂. I also had to give them a deposit to care for him because where they live is expensive, but it is much better than the other option my family suggested: have another family member care for him but puts him outside under the hot sun with no room and ignores him to the point of only feeding him and giving him water. 😑

We had a customer who had her neighbor come by to let their bunny out without having all the education we gave to the new owner, so their was not careful monitoring and the bunny chewed some wiring. The owner returning home ended up getting in touch with me immediately recognizing the litter box was empty of droppings. We got the bunny to an emergency Vet, the bunny had a blockage, but the owners knowledge on "Pet Bunny Health and What To Watch Out For" on our Lovely Bunny's Bunny Blog, and quick acting saved her life. I recommend a qualified bunny sitter who will keep you updated on their set up with videos to show how the bunny is living daily and it is not just sitting in a cage. Our "Motto" is it is better to be proactive than reactive, and it really does make a huge difference. If anyone ever needs a bunny sitter, Do some vetting into the sitters knowledge and decide best.
