Some great information, but I used know someone who did a lot of research on UV. She advised many of the Zoos in the UK. One of her main findings was that the UV supply should be far nearer to the animal than just about all of us do at the moment.

It is definitely an area that needs more in depth research but yeah, Niles are diurnal african lizards who spend a good portion of the day exposed to very high uv. Their skin is also quite different than mammal skin and seems to be able to undergo that constant barage of uv much better than we do.

I also did clothing for the first 2 years, undershirts and socks. I used socks more bc mine would sit above his florescent tubes and those fit better with him.

Haha, first thing...examine the choice you have just made because you've just brought home a bengal tiger in a lizard body. Niles are among my favorite monitor species and I think would be amazing if they were the size and temperament as an ackie...unfortunately this is not true. That said, they are exceptionally intelligent and as is evident by the nile quietly resting on his shoulder, with a ton of work, they can be trained to trust and enjoy human interaction.

Well people who say that might not put the time into them it’s possible but naturally they are wild especially as a baby but I don’t really agree with that because I know people who actually tame down their Nile 👍

Can you do a feeding video for Nile And what to feed them
@FantasyVisuals
3 жыл бұрын
Varies. Make sure they get enough calcium or they will develop brutal bone disease . They love eggs. However , make sure the eggs are properly cooked or the animal can get sick.

@matt W. Agreed. Cooking is also unnecessary. ALMOST any sort of meats, insects, crustaceans or eggs are great in moderation and with variety, there are exceptions of course. For example id avoid too much seafood since Niles cant expel salt like marine lizards. Also avoid too many organs, because organs contain high levels or various nutrients that can actually become toxic if fed too frequently and allowed to build up. Don't season their food, but if you have unseasoned meats or eggs that have expired, they are nearly always safe for them to eat. If your Nile isnt eating much, either something is very wrong with it, or your temps are wrong... A confident Nile should almost always be hungry. Skittish Niles are a pain in the ass too, even more so than aggresive Niles because they can literally get too afraid to eat. My Nile straight up thought he was the king of all lizards. He was 6.5ft long and had never seen a lizard as large as him. He would get super aggro when he saw large male asian water monitors and attack their enclosure, but he never saw another Nile monitor large enough to be worth his time. He once ate an entire tray of raw chicken breasts that weighed over 6lbs in one sitting and then kept harassing me for more food even though i had nothing left to feed him. Hes also the same Nile in my profile picture. Crawfish are a great feeding option for larger Niles. They are very cheap and similar in nutrition to dubia roaches. I used to buy a few lbs of frozen crawfish at a time whenever id go grocery shopping. Niles love them. About half are obsessed with snails too, but my big male HATED snails for some reason. He would get noticeably angry with me when i gave him snails. He would throw them and scratch them to pieces with his claws instead of eating them lol. He knew that i knew he didnt like them, and he was letting me know he wasnt having it lol.

I honestly would NEVER reccomend a Nile over other monitor species. Absolutely no point. Almost every other monitor is better suited to captivity. My Nile was 6.5ft by his 4th birthday. Already 5ft by his 1st birthday. They grow extremely fast and tend to be more difficult than almost any other monitor in the pet trade. These just aren't animals you should be reccomending as pets. I honestly feel terrible every time one of my subscribers tells me they bought a Nile. They shouldn't even be in the pet trade.

I just inherited a 3year old nile. He's only 2ft from nose to tail🤔... I'm assuming his growth has been stunted cuz of his living conditions🤦♂️. Poor guy has a cooking pot as a watering disk an nor much else in the aquarium😒. I like the simplicity of your setup and am gonna try something similar until I have time to learn and properly setup his aquarium 👍

Getting your first Nile monitor...ans saying goodbye to your fingers. Along with Tokay Geckos, these have always been known as the piranhas of the lizard world, very aggressive but cheap unfortunately so thousands have been bought and tossed away by uninformed buyers. Much better monitor choices. Nile would be my dead last choice ever!
