I had two horrible job interviews. First place interviewed me for 2 hours and then said they didn't actually have a job, they just wanted to see if there was "local talent." The other was a design job at a small one-person non-profit that sell prints to help fund estuaries. After he offered me the gig, he then said the bulk of my time would actually be for his for-profit erotic watercolor website. I declined.

Following up to rejections, or even to a non-response after applying to let them know you are really interested, I think is kind of bad advice. It is like not having a call from a girl after the first date, and immediatelly calling her to ask her why. I think is better advice what I heard from a girl in a "career foundry" video about "career change" who bought herself a cupcake every 5 rejections. That will keep you applying and ignoring the rejections, because its also about numbers. But also another good advice is to continue improving the "Portfolio" and "Case Studies".

I faced some rejections due to my disability as a Deaf person. Another reason cited was the provision of ‘expensive accommodations.’ I meant that small companies often cite this as a reason. There are many solutions available but they are reluctant to consider them and claim to have no time to think about accessibility. However, accessibility goes beyond accommodations; it’s not always costly. For example, I can have sign language interpreters available 24/7 for virtual meetings.

This is very unfortunate. And what if the person with a disability would be super productive and talented worker, or have a valuable point of view and thinking to problems, with the necessary accommodations - then it would definitely worth the money and effort (if any required). Luckily AI is making assistive technology more accessible to people, better and cheaper, so even disabilities will not be so limiting anymore. I just saw in the news that here in Finland someone who's paralyzed head-to-toe, moving only his eyes, working as a nuclear safety engineer. I really wish everyone would have equal access to everything - including jobs

I've had 8 interviews. Three of them involved design tasks. One company never responded, and others complained about my location but still proceeded with the design work, only to reject me later. In one interview, they asked personal questions. Another company had already recommended someone, which they said was the reason I wouldn't get the job. One even offered me the position but expected me to work for free. It's been quite confusing trying to figure out what's going wrong

In my case I moved to Boston (USA) with the illusion of growing professionally and the truth is that it has been very difficult to find a job, I do not know if it is the recession or my English level (B2), the most worrying thing is that I do not receive feedback from the interviewers of the reasons why they do not select me, I am even trying to apply for internship or junior jobs, the truth is that it is very frustrating and hopeless.

On more than one occasion I went through multiple rounds of interviews, two in particular where I spoke with management and high management with great feedback from HR and the tech interview. On both occasions I got flunked and didn't bother to reply when I asked for feedback. It was both a senior position.

You mentioned you need to be a good visual designer so should a ui/ux designer know how to do illustrations as well??
@simoncallelaverde
10 ай бұрын
I think Malewicz consider "Visual Designer" the same as "UI Designer", he said that in another video, that visual designers are usually UI designers, which I didn't 100% agree (although I agree with mostly everything else he says). To me, yes, "Visual Designer" is basically a "Graphic Designer", but for "UI Design" you DON'T need to know how to illustrate (i.e. in Illustrator, although being a general visual designer (graphic designer) could make your portfolio and designs stand out more). Many companies searching for "UI Designers" actually hire "Graphic Designers", in my previous job the 2 "UI Designers" were 2 female friends with the title "Graphic Designers", so they used to do the UI, but also sometimes icons, graphics, infographics, logos, etc. (I know a lot about UI, and Front-end, but I have never created an icon, or logo, etc, and that could even be hurting me now still to get a UI job. Those kinds of visual work).
