Australian Shepherds will figure you out. We had to let our Aussie of 14 years go this past March. He was our first Aussie but at a very early age, he knew what his role was which here on our rural, woodland mountain was to take care of his homestead. He with no professional training knew that we were his peeps and his job was to take care of us. He protected our cats, he protected our chickens, he protected our home and he protected us. His name was Grady and we miss him dearly.

@@kevinbrown3075My amazing Aussie, Hannah, passed at 12 1/2. She was truly my partner, and had not one bad habit or issue. It has been almost 4 yrs and I still miss her intensely. I know I always will. She was just simply the best. But I feel that I am finally ready to love another Aussie, and, so, I am picking up a ten week old pup in ten days. She is a red merle and her name is Willow. I was so spoiled by Hannah’s perfection thatI am just a bit anxious about how she and I will get along, but I am having faith that this will be a good partnership as well

My family is getting our Blue Merle Male Australian Shepherd in 12 days! We’re so excited. 😄😁 Update: Things have been going great! We named him Oreo (I know, I know, not super creative but all the little ones liked the idea and it’s easy to teach and suits him 🥰). He is so loving and such an attention seeker. He sleeps through the night and has learned several tricks. He is very energetic and crazy. It seems that wherever he goes, destruction follows. So that’s a bit of a struggle but we’ve been working on it. He’s got a bit of an attitude but he loves cuddles and kisses. These dogs are great. Do your research, feed them properly, train them physically and mentally, and love them. They’re precious. 😁 Update #2: I got a husky and another Australian shepherd. Fun fact- the Australian shepherds share the same mom. We named the husky Jax and the other Australian shepherd Cookie (she’s a black tri). They’re all precious and have so much fur.

I stopped this 4 seconds in. My take on introducing a new Aussie. Get down and play. Teach from day one. Even stupid things like toy names Love. Show them love and respect and you will be awarded ten fold. Train. Training starts with consistency. Feed them at the same times morning and night. You will have a permanent alarm clock. Redirect bad behavior. It’s your fault you did not give your Aussie enough stimulation and toys to play with. Your shoe is gone move on unless you catch them in the act, do not punish. Never hit an Aussie. It’s your fault you did not make clear what your expectations are. Bottom line always love your Aussie teach train and be consistent. You will be rewarded with a best friend who will protect you and yours and a play mate no matter your age.

I started by having my AS in a kennel box at night on the other side of my house. I never used it as punishment so she would willingly go into it every night. That's when she got one of her toys. So I made it a good experience for her always. That helped with the potty training as well. First thing I did every morning was to let her out. She was okay with the kennel always. I never left her in it for very long and she was only in it at night while I slept. First command she actually learned was "go potty". When she squatted outside, I repeated "go potty" to her and gave her a lot of praise and a treat. Potty training was really a breeze this way. She had accidents at first in the kennel, but I never scolded her or got upset. I took her outside and cleaned the kennel immediately. She never went into a soiled kennel. I think the biggest mistake is people get lazy about it... don't. Just do it. Pause the TV or whatever and take care of the dog. You'll thank yourself later when you have a reliably potty trained dog. She no longer has to be in a kennel at all... since one year old. Even with the best of dogs... potty trained for years... accidents happen. Don't make a big deal about it is my best advice. I know some people don't like the idea of a kennel... but if the dog actually enjoys the time in it, it can be a good thing. It also helps keep them out of trouble and developing the bad habit of chewing things they shouldn't.

Just got my Aussie puppy last night! Last one left of the litter at 3 m, 3 w, and the owner gave him to me. Yay! She did a great job socializing and crate training him and although I walk him in the yard every 2 hours, he lets me know if he needs to go out sooner. Not one mess. I walked him all around the yard and the house to introduce him to his surroundings and let him sniff. Such a good boy! He fetches! He understands "no" and "come". We will work on "heel" tonight as his leash skills are not great. Did fine in the crate the first night, but wanted to be by my side the second. We're in love. Velcro. Even the TNR cat that adopted me approves and he is not chasing her. Although he looked terrified to leave his mom and dad and all the other dogs and people in the house, he has not cried or whimpered once. I was blessed to be given this puppy after 11 years without a dog, having lost my Blk Lab (14), my Dane (12) and my Calico tail-less cat (19) all in one year. He has herded all his toys together and his job for now is to carry his stuffed lamb wherever he goes.

Question What do you recommend for this situation. My aussie puppy knows to sit stay and wait for the release before crossing the known thresholds. But once he gets the okay he goes completely nuts. Like bulldozing whatever is in his way jumping nipping ect. By the way I have a slip lead on him and he will choke himself out. It is like he has no idea how to keep his cool once he gets the okay. How do you redirect that behavior. I have been looking a all kinds of videos on KZitem and all of their puppies are all so claim during the whole training session. I have yet found something to explain what to do when your puppy does something like this. I try to stay claim but at times it gets super frustrating because I do not know what I need to be doing in order to correct this and it is not fair to my puppy.

My Australian Sherpherd German Shepherd cross was a free farm dog that was posted on facebook. I was looking for another dog that could be an active jogger and hiker with me, and I jumped on the post as soon as I saw it. She was 5 months old and the previous owner had been given three of them from an accidental litter. She must have been abused as she was incredibly timid and scared, and severely underweight. They wouldn't let me come to their farm to pick her up, they had her delivered to me by a horse hauling company. I've been working on her timidness and reactivity and she is doing great! It's been 5 months since I've gotten her, and she is able to walk on a leash calmly and she doesn't lash out at other dogs as much. She learned the basic commands very quickly, and we have been building a lot of trust and confidence. She is a wonderful dog and it's sad that she went through so much in the first few months of her life.

Friend, No doubt you possess expertise on this subject, but you're Non-Stop machine gun delivery is certainly stressful on the ears and doesn't lend toward easy receptivity. Just exhale occasionally, take a breath, leave an interval, applause, no need to be in your face at every second along the way. Likewise, you're giving lots of demands to this news without actually telling them the how to. Pause as well for that, when you say they should have their dog sit and stay and break, then for heaven's sakes, tell them how to produce a sit reaction, a stay reaction and a break. Or are you simply trying to sell product? Don't worry, will believe in your integrity even if you have a much gentler delivery and demeanor then you're rather militant present one.

I’m super scared bringing her outside because 80% of the dogs in my neighborhood are very vicious with lazy stupid owners who have no control over them. I’m also very worried about her getting parvo or worms or anything of the sorts without her needed shots.

Hey Julie, thanks for watching! So sorry to hear what happened to our Aussie but it's so great that he's found a home with you. You can use any of the techniques on our channel with an older dog, it just might take a little more time for them to pick it up compared to a puppy. However, we do have a course, Boot Camp, over on our website that might be helpful to look into. We wrote it to help restructure the relationship between owner and older dog, we do offer a free taster if you would like to check that out first too, Principles of Canine Behaviour. If you head to our website you'll be able to find out more about both courses: www.fenrirdogtraining.com/courses Hope training goes well!

Hey, my family are looking at a new dog and my favourite breed is a mini Aussie. However we have a cat and I can’t find much info on how Aussie act with cats, anyone have advice?

My Anakin (My Australian Shephard) is respectful (and fearful) of my cats, utterly terrified of the kittens I foster though. I monitor him though I don't leave them unattended other than him in his kennel (which I have a cover for so the cats can't torment him in).

My Aussie loves to chase the cats when they run. When they don't run, he's rather puzzled. They all get along well.

My 10 week old lunges at us all with his mouth open and is biting our skin and our clothes. I purchased the Fenrir puppy course and we are using the stern tone to tell him "no!" or "uh ah!" and give him a chew toy instead, but it doesn't work, he keeps lunging and biting. (It's becoming harder to remain calm when the biting hurts.) He does this whether we are playing with him or not. We are all bleeding and we need to figure out another solution--quick! Any tips? Also, we are trying our best to exercise him but he is only 10 weeks old and hasn't completed vaccinations. Toilet training is another issue (I am constantly cleaning up messes while trying to stop him from biting us all) but I'm more concerned about the biting right now.

Lol NO ONE should be “about to bring an Australian shepherd puppy home with no idea what to do” first of all. 🤣. Of course I’m semi-joking, great video though. Those first few weeks (and wow, that first night) were certainly stressful. 4 mo now and wouldn’t dream of trading him for any other breed. 😍

Nine month olld Aussi going through her first heat. It’s like her whole personality is snapped. Still nose or commands, which I’ve worked on since day one she leaves sits stays all the basic commands but lately she doesn’t want to walk decently on the leash. I have been using a very small prong, which helps greatly. I think it might be because she’s in heat, but if you could do a video with about a nine month old Ozzie, and go from there, that would be really super helpful.

I rescued a 7-month old to our 23 acre homestead. It's been only 12 hours, and I may have made a huge mistake. This boy is crazy. I can't even get him on a leash without him attacking me or anyone else. One second, he's calm, but will flip to insane in an instant. I want him to succeed. I don't know how to get him started.

How about training three pups at one time we had the young pups show up at our home . They are so excited to see us, but I can't get them to stop jumping all over us with out getting ripped up by there nails.. the potty training has been such a hard process but we are getting there . The other problem is we have tried and looked far and wide for chew bones to keep them from chewing and destroying everything in the home .. and once they get outside all commands are out the window. We can't get them to come when called we can't get them to stay in the yard which is 1 1/2 acres . And sneak off to the woods behind our place. . Other than that they are very smart, and loving , and have made our lives fun again .. but those few things above is what we are struggling with.. help

I’m in the research stages of planning for our family Aussie ;) so thanks for these videos.. My daughter though wants a German shepherd.. could these apply to both dogs? And would a Aussie and German shepherd get along? Would it be best to get them as puppies together?

I have an Australian/border collie. She is 4 1/2 months old. Her birthday is November 28. I just got her from the dog rescue. She’s a sweet girl but I believe she’s getting a little over protective over me lol barks at strangers/dogs not able to control her walking to the park sometimes need help. Lol overall she’s a sweet girl Out is it too late to start her on your plan since I’ve had her for about two weeks already?

Please, don't overthink it. Just love the dog to death. He'/She's gonna turn out fine. You're not gonna ruin your dog, if the puppy doesn't know sit in 1 month. Dogs are extremely sensitive, they read your mood very accurately. Learn the read dog's body language and you'll be fine.

If anyone is willing to share or donate please contact me. It would be deeply appreciated. I just want her to be happy again and out of pain. I’m going to have a special 3 legged dog ❤️
