My two Chicago picks --- German at the Bergoff on West Adams and Cajun bites at Buddy Guy's Legends blues club on South Wabash, with the added benefit of slow-dancing with your girl with some genuine, classic American blues music. And if you're lucky, Buddy will be in the house and join the bands of the night! Happened to me and my wife several years ago. Memories created! 💙🎶🎹🎵🎸🎙💙

OMG !! We had Malort when I graduated from Probationary candidate (Probie) to firefighter for the Department. Which was given to us and had to drink it all in one medium sized glass...about 4 shots worth. And not gag or get sick. Just plain nasty !! And yes I passed...somehow.

Harold's Chicken! Some of the best fried chicken, and their fish filets are great too Don't forget tavern-style thin crust pizza, which is fantastic in its own right Chicago has one of, if not the largest Serbian populations in the US, and the Serbian food and liquor around Irving Park is fantastic- be sure to get Rakija Also if you're there in the summer, the Taste of Chicago festival is a must-see

Great tips! So, I grew up eating White Fence Farm chicken (we'd drive to get it to go or eat at the restaurant). Their chicken is baked and flash fried if I remember correctly - and the corn fritters there were SO GOOD, too!

Ladies, good job! We grew up having Fannie Mae candies as our special candy treats. Love those creams! I had never heard of the green boxes you had highlighted. Something else that is quite unique is Petersen's Ice Cream located in Oak Park on Chicago Avenue close to Harlem. It's true old style hand-packed ice cream. A blast from the past.

I'm so glad you mentioned this because my Grandfather was born in Oak Park and every year on his birthday in May we would go as a family to Petersen's and get a meal and Peppermint ice cream with chocolate syrup for dessert in his honor! Just a mention of Petersen's gives me so many warm fuzzy feelings. It's amazing! 😊

Italian Beef: Johnnie's in Melrose Park seems to be the go to place for that. I like Mr. Beef on Orleans which also has rare free parking in the area, but JUST if you're eating there. Al's and Buona are popular local Italian Beef chains. Flips Beef near me in Glen Ellyn is very good too. Best buffet in the world is Czerwone Jalubszko or Red Apple on Milwaukee north of Irving Park Road fantastic Polish food. It's a good haul from me so it was my birthday go to before the pandemic. Finally for craft beer food and history: Two Brothers Roundhouse in Aurora. Domaine DuPage is awesome beer and the roundhouse is not only the last one left in the US but it's well used, so old Lincoln's funeral train passed by.

My vote...Lou Malnati's is by far the best deep dish, hands down! They also have killer calamari! Fortunately we have both a Lou's and Portillo's in the greater Milwaukee area now so we're set! Though I will say that Martino's Italian Beef and Hot Dog's in Milwaukee absolutely blows away anywhere else in both Chicago dogs and Italian Beef!!! And Chicago dog or not, ketchup no more belongs on a hot dog than peanut butter belongs on Jello.

Eliz, cuter than hell! Thanks for explaining why ketchup isn't usually used on Chicago hot dogs. No one else has explained it like that. Goose Island tastes a lot like Stella Artois to me. Who would have thought that a hot dog place like Portillo's would have such a great Italian beef sandwich but it's true.

glad that you mentioned the diverse ethnic cuisine abundant in Chicago! that’s one of my favorite things about the city- unfortunately, downtown chicago restaurants are for the most part, overpriced and not the best place for getting quality global cuisine. you have to get out into the surrounding neighborhoods for that! i agree that Chinatown and Pilsen (Latino community) are great for that. If you want my current favorite restaurant rec that’s a bit of a “hole in the wall” local eatery: Aroma Desi Grill Restaurant. It’s a 5 min walk from Union Station and open early and late everyday. They have cheap and large portions of delicious Middle Eastern Cuisine! Takeout or dine-in :)

You asked for an “opinionated Chicagoan”, so you’ve got one- What an underwhelming and disappointing video; I expect more from Wolter’s World. Once they said [chain restaurant] “Portillo’s” as the spot to go to for hot dogs - instead of a place like Superdawg’s or Jimmy’s I almost stopped watching. As a native Chicagoan, who’s still here, I find it hard to believe the two individuals in this video are from the city, let alone know of what they speak. Nearly 10 minutes and they barely mentioned anything. They glazed over all of the “ethnic” food instead of naming actual places to go, like Papa Cache’s for some excellent Puerto Rican food, Cho Sun Ok for some mean Korean BBQ, La Guerrense for amazing Mexican - sooo much more that an actual local would know and could recommend off the top of their head. And for fun, if I had to guess - the neighborhood the two people in this video are in would be either Wicker Park, Logan, Humboldt Park, or Pilsen. Looks like they may have been at Lottie’s [bar], and Little Au Cheval for the burgers. This is almost as bad as that Puerto Rico video his wife made that they restricted the comments on. Smh.

Why don't you give some of your recs then, instead of just posting a comment like this? Why not 'educate' them if they are so wrong on what they show?
