Honestly you, Charles and and Liz must be the three loveliest gardeners on KZitem. What a treat to see all three of you on one video 🥰Also, planting garlic chives in my garden was one of the best things i ever did - have the normal kind too but the garlic ones are really special, and so pretty when they flower.

My Gma was an iris hybridizer and I just found out that she has 5 irises registered with the American Iris Society. The oldest was in 1956 and the most recent in 1976. I was bummed that there weren't any photos of the flowers and no one seems to be selling them. I guess I'd have to hybridize them myself to have some. 🤷♀️

You are so spot on with the chives. I have chives growing wild. Thank you for spearheading your vid with it. I take your word with the irises. I plan to move a lot of sword irises in other locations. Cheers from Mid-Norway.

Amazing suggestions, as usual, Niall! :D I didn't use to be able to choose things for my garden based on beauty and ornamental properties. Now I have plenty of space for all sorts of things. My foodie heart still likes the edibles the best though.

Great video Niall, yes will be planting all those except have already done squashes as new to Ireland and thought the season might be shorter. Totally agree with comment on Seeds Ireland, have had great germination rates which have produced healthy veg and flowers. I grow in quite a large area at home and at work. Thanks for video

Love your choices. I have huge beds of iris from pure white, yellow, peach, pale lavender solid purple, purple stripe and brown. Original purple were from my Grandmother planted in the 1940's. Always brings a smile to my face. In Texas we divide iris in July. Garlic chives are to strong or harsh and I have a patch about 8ft square and spreading. I have given to any and everyone for years. Takes my breath away when I mow over them. ha ha Love your Bird of Paradise shirt. Have a great week.

I sowed my winter squash already and it's starting to get true leaves. There was a yellow iris in the corner of my yard I divided this year and I keep trying to start chives but the transplants didn't do well in spring so I'll keep trying that. I hadn't planned on beets but I'll consider that and check out the other flower. I like the sound of a little green through winter.

With butternut squashes remove the flower heads until the plant is large enough to support growing squashes and growing bigger itself. Let the plant fruit too early and all the energy goes into producing one butternut squash. Doing this gives me bigger plants that produce a dozen plus butternut squashes instead of one or two squashes per plant. (variaty Harrier)

I bought some once and they just stayed weedy-looking, never thickened up or flowered. Is it coz I’m on heavy clay..? 🤔
@melissamybubbles6139

@@LouciferFlump I don't know. I'm in Colorado, which doesn't get much rain. We also have heavy clay. In my grow bags, they flower nicely. In the ground without irrigation, they have lived multiple years but have only flowered this year because we got unusual amounts of rain. Otherwise they usually look weedy and don't flower. How much rain do you get?

My chieves are a big failure this year. My pumpkins I have to sew twice but now they are looking so healthy. Iris I have lots of in my pond. A few days ago I started my pickles and golden beatroot. In a few days I am going to sew cale and purple sproiting broccoli.

Well Niall,I must say I really enjoyed that video, great recommendations, I did get some iris's from friends, whoohoo they flowered this year,love them, a separate flower keeps coming out from one stalk. Have the fox gloves too, live them too. Yes to honesty, wall flowers, and 100% yes to chives,live it, I even just pick and live it for the smell. I must start actually using it as a food. Great to see Liz and Charles both amazing people and fantastic hardeners with an abundance of knowledge. Niall your garden is looking absolutely beautiful it's enjoying the beautiful weather. Thanks for a really cheery video.

I just found some garlic chives seeds at the store, very excited to sow them around my heirloom tomato bed! My winter squash is coming on well, and is going in the ground soon. And thanks for the reminder to get my bienniel flower seeds going, I almost forgot! I don't have room for them in the garden this year, hopefully they'll be ok overwintering in pots!
