@@ivorynk752 some people get extremely blind to all of their inventions’ quirks when they start thinking “Everyone who buys this is gonna love it, it can help so many and we’ll make millions!” At that point it’s just their baby and a (decent) parent can’t ever see their own baby as ugly or flawed. Very common theme in the tech industry, especially with the AI boom. You get these bright eyed inventors pitching ideas that they think are going to revolutionize the world for the better, then the general public comes along and goes “oh you sweet summer child, I can think of at least 10 different ways companies and nations can use this for evil in a world-ending way.” Cue the inventor stopping dead in their tracks with a surprised pikachu face before falling back on their “but it will help people if used correctly! And we worked so hard on it!” After a certain point of working on something you become unable to see its flaws. That’s why it’s very important to get fresh eyes on the idea, and even more important to make sure your reviewers are diverse. In playdoh’s “extractor toy” for example it’s likely they only got kids under the age of 10 to review it, and the issue came from not expanding the age range of their reviewers. Failed to take into account that the parents/adults would be the one buying and dictating whether this is an appropriate toy for children. And I gotta say it looks _incredibly_ similar to a cheap clear d1ldo. Identical even.
@riverstein7251

@@ivorynk752 after a certain amount of time of working on something inventors stop being able to see their invention’s flaws. Many fail to get a fresh set of eyes on it, especially of a more diverse group. Playdoh probably only vetted the toy with kids under the age of 10 instead of asking the actual buyers-the parents. And executives aren’t exactly in the loop on everything their company makes. They just get told an idea will make millions without seeing the specifics and they go “yes yes go ahead and release it I need my Christmas bonus 🤑.” Many are just rich guys playing at being good at business. Like Elon(gated) Musk(rat).
