I bought the Jiobit and works fairly well. There is a subscription to this one. I am using this to keep track of my daughter while she is on the bus or for going to crowded places. I opted for the Protect plan as well and she can push a button to alert me when she is in trouble. I have more peace of mind knowing that I can get her location easier and notify dispatch of her location if needed. Wish I bought it sooner. Better late than never.

This is a great video and I think you should update it and expand on it with service reviews because if you Google some of the devices to look for reviews there's some pretty bad ones. It will really suck to spend a lot of money on a device that has bad service and support especially ones with a monthly fee. One bad one is the Angel Sense if you look.

The sad thing is tech doesn't have to advance very far to be abused. Even the stuff we have around today like AirTags and these trackers can be used for controlling or paranoid purposes. I have the same concern. I'll probably be getting the AngelSense tracker because, even if the kidnapper or whoever knows it's there, they can't remove it--short of cutting it off, which takes time and tools. If it's just attached to your child's pocket, then of course the person can take off their clothing, but that's true for being in their shoe, a hairclip, necklace, patch, etc. With the AngelSense, you can use the belt which is fastened to your child's body and can only be removed by someone with the magnetic key. OR by cutting it off. Hopefully with the belt idea, we'd make it to our child's location before they criminal would be able to remove the device and flee.

Great question, @Mimi G. If you aren't going to use it very often, check out cheaper options like MyBuddyTag which uses Bluetooth. It connects to your phone and once the Bluetooth signal (and your child) goes out of range, you'll get an alert. It doesn't have as strong of features as AngelSense, but it's a good way to test out a GPS and see if you like it.

Just to be clear, those devices don't just send updates to you "through an app." An app is just a user interface. The devicesl rely on some type of data link (cellular like LTE or something). And the data link is almost always a monthly subscription which ultimately is with a major cell carrier. Would be helpful to elaborate on that. Only devices I'm aware of that don't need a cellular link is Tile, Apple airpods, Samsung airtags. There are other off brands as well.
@lincoln6981

I bought an airtag for my daughter she's 6. And she wears it like a watch. One one hand I'm iffy about it because I feel over protective/ and even kinda intrusive to an extent. On the other hand if (God forbid) my daughter were to get lost somewhere somehow or even kidnapped ! I'd have some shot at knowing her location
@asksafewise
2 жыл бұрын
@Lincoln that's a smart idea! It's tricky to know where that line between intrusive and protective goes. We always say that having a conversation with your kids at any age about this stuff and why you keep tabs on them is a really good first step.

That's the big question, isn't it Aurora? Devices like trackers can feel controversial and invasive, especially when used to protect our kids. That's why we feel it's important to be straightforward with your kids if you use a device like any of these. Making it clear that a tracker like this is for their safety not for your snooping can make the issue a little easier.

Raman, many of the trackers claim up to 5-7 days of battery life, but that's basically if you're not getting frequent GPS location updates. Lots of activity will drain the batteries on most of these, so they'll require charging every couple days. I don't have any that are waterPROOF, but all are water-resistant to a certain extent. Thanks for sharing your specific needs and I will certainly reach out to you if I discover your perfect match.

Ron, I apologize. I did not answer your question correctly. Most of the trackers we've worked with do have a SIM card, but it's not always required. Great question, @scotsboys89! Any GPS tracker can be abused, even those for kids. But the right way to use devices like these is as a stand-in for cell phones for younger kids. If your small child say, gets lost at the store or goes on a trip without you, a GPS tracker like these can help you keep tabs on them and let them call for help if they need it.
