My next tire is going to be the new Toyo RT Trail. I don’t know if you guys have them in Australia yet, but I would love to hear feedback if anyone has them.

I just put some Maxxis MT772 on my LC200. Surprised they are so much quiter than the KM3. World of difference. But, i don't know about any of the other pluses and minusses yet. I just hope on having no punctures. That would be a great win. And, if i do get into some unexpected mud, i will be able to get out as opposed to an AT (also have General Grabber AT3. Those are great everywhere, but struggle in sticky mud. Doesn't throw it off fast enough. Dunno if this warrants MT tires, but RT aren't here yet.

My only criticism of KO2s is that they can chip badly if you frequently travel on the sharp coarse gravel you get on SA outback roads. One trip is usually OK, but if you do multiple trips every year they chip out more than any other tyre. Interestingly enough, most of my travel companions moved from KO2 to D697 and Toyos for that reason. I find punctures are becoming less common. 4wd tyres are better quality than they were 20-30 years ago. And most common factor I see is the experience of the driver. Experienced drivers know when to slow down, air down and watch the road closely to avoid hitting stuff.

After my wife suffered a puncture in a remote location (I wasn’t there), I decided to give this brand a try: P-free (stands for puncture free), purchased through ASV parts/wreckers. Not only did I fit 5 to the 120 series Prado, but I tried it on a 2004 S350 Mercedes a few years ago. Initially these were GREAT! Super comfortable, extremely quiet due to the thick plastistised foam on the inside of each tread. Price was very reasonable. Got an unfortunate puncture out the side of the tread which missed the foam…that was a very unusual fluke and I think it came from the building site in our street at the time as I found a few long nails on the road. Just bad luck I thought. Anyway, a couple of years later I get in the Prado and notice some noise up front…the bloody thing had seperated and worn over a large area of about 15cm long and a few cm wide!! It had worn the tread down at this point so I was surprised this was not picked up earlier…it was the passenger front tyre. Later the Merc on exactly the same position-front passenger (roadside for all those non Australians), however this seperation was only about 1.5 inches long by an inch wide. Never the less, after the Prado getting such a huge, dangerous amount of seperation I took pictures and sent them to the sales agent. He didn’t give a shit. This is my experience with “puncture free” tyres, known as “P-free”. I think they came from Indonesia and had to be individually wrapped in plastic to keep the dust away from the sticky foam layer inside. Took me bloody ages to remove that crap. It’s such a pity they seperated as they were the nicest riding and quietest I have EVER experienced in my life by a long way. Pity their quality was so shit. Got BFG KO2’s on the Prado 70 profile….beautiful. No problems. I bought the Prado with BFG KO2’s already on them and they were surprisingly long lasting. Not cheap at about $360 (I think a tyre)…you get what you pay for. I’m happy with my decision this time so far:

I would ask about tires how much would you expect driving time from a set of tires 60000 or 100000 kilometer or lower

It all depends what you use them on and varies massively. If you do a lot of outback tracks you can shoot tires out in under 50,000 km. I have shown examples in the tire playlist of 60,000 Kay’s and they are gone but the same tires can last more than twice as long for all these people that have the wrong Tyres and just drive around on the blacktop and there’s no shortage of those.
