I have a son about your age and we do lots of fairly dangerous outdoor survival stuff so I am very safety conscious. I am glad you were ok and even happier to see you are taking safety more seriously now. Love all your videos, which prompted me, my son and his friends to visit the Strid. Thanks to you our visit was much more meaningful and enjoyable and gave us a much deeper sense of awe and respect for the Strid. You have produced some great content and it's fantastic that you made some income from it. The problem with hiking channels is that it is a niche market. You have to be into it. The Strid definitely made it for you but you deserved it. You worked hard and it paid off. I'll never make a penny. KZitem on the monetisation tab says I'm in Afghanistan. KZitem says I'm in England, Gmail says I'm in England everything says I'm in England except the monetisation tab. I've clicked off and back to England and nothing changes. Strange. I'm like you, I'm doing the hikes for me and hoping that someone else may like it. But it's for the memories. If anyone knows a workaround I'd be grateful. But yeah, you deserve the acclaim for this. Kudos.

In YT Studio, I imagine "impressions" and "click through rate" refers to the ads. (Source: worked in the business on technical side). CTR is probably the biggest driver of the rate that YT, and you, get. That's going to be hard for you to directly affect; its going to be very heavily driven by how well YT figures out your audience's interests and how valuable that is to advertisers. Attracting "young adults with high disposable income," "sports/outdoors," and "travel" would be biggies. "Food and Cooking" should be pretty good too, if you're ever inclined to include that. But its obvious that what's important to you is the story telling, sharing interesting things in your world. Thank you. Its fascinating watching you explore and grow, especially discovering the "people person" inside you.

I seem to recall it appearing in my feed so it must have been the first of your videos I saw. I'm really glad I found your channel as I get to relive the Lake District again. Incidentally I came across a couple of old photos from a crash site on the old man of Coniston the other day. I put them on Instagram. The other day I was going over the old videos on Martin Zero, he had a viral moment as well with his trapdoor under the canal video similar numbers to yours. The count is now on about 4.5 million three years or so later, it'll be interesting to see how your Strid numbers evolve. @@jackasnacks Great insight, I like the way it makes people shine and project the best version of themselves. Some great things can come about, one example I found was a young schoolgirl who was doing covers of The Stranglers tracks from her bedroom, she did a brilliant version of Souls and gathered quite a following, leading to being invited up on stage to perform with Hugh Cornwell (the former lead singer of the group), see the little nuclei is her channel. Here's a way to get the accurate depth take a divers pressure gauge / depth gauge stick it in front of the GoPro as it's dropping that should give you the water pressure / depth then use Google information to check if the water pressure would be different if aerated all the way to the bottom which I doubt it is aerated all the way to the bottom but the camera can watch the pressure gauge / death gauge and that will give you how much water is above you

Great video, nice to look back and revisit the moment I subscribed to the channel. Good to know you got paid something for your success. I was thinking a while back about other stuff you could try at the Strid but I never posted it. First suggestion - fix up some kind of line between the two sides of the Strid on stakes/tripods but tied down either side with tent peg lines and then have your camera line on a loop hanging on the line so its over the centre of the Strid. Weight the line down and maybe it will then drop straight down to the centre of the Strid. Second suggestion (but expensive and possibly not doable) - get an underwater version of the camera that experts use to map caves etc and set it to do its thing from the bottom. I don't know if such a thing exists. Third suggestion, get the waterboard/EA to dam the river further up and so drain the Strid out. Obviously the last one is a pipe dream. In the meantime keep up the hiking videos.

I guess it says a lot about The Algorithm and other people's tastes, but I had a quick look at your more recent videos and how many views they got. Right now, your adventure to have a coffee in a bothy overlooking Buttermere has about 8,000 views and personally I think that's my favourite video of yours as it just takes me to a place I love to be and doing the things I love to do. Yet videos with viral-style titles do much better (e.g. Strid/Striding Edge content), for fairly obvious reasons. I've been umm-ing and arr-ing about putting some more content on my channel for a while now and I've had a lot of ideas over the last few years. Most lately I've thought about recording my adventures of doing the 214 Wainwrights. As yourself, I don't intend to make any money from it, but maybe I could inspire someone to walk some of the lesser-known fells or just help someone mentally escape from their urban jungle for a few minutes.

Great viedeos, I liked them! I'm still convinced the depth could be estimated by calculation. One could maesure the cross section of that stream in a calm spot before or after the "death zone". You'll then need the flow rate at that point and here we are. You'll then roughly know how much water per second flows through the strid => at every point... This is not exact at all but with some refinement one could get close......

Did we ever get a solid number on the actual depth? I remember that with the sonar ball, it said some crazy things like 90 meters. I also saw an old massive stalactite under the water when you sent the camera and light down. In another part of the video, I saw a massive stone on the 'bottom' with smaller stones perfectly surrounded in on all sides. It looked like some sort of ancient burial grave or something. There were other curious metallic-like objects that looked like some sort of dumbbell weight that maybe someone tied onto a rope or something to test the depth. I didn't see any massive 'caves', though. Looked like mainly just big overhangs like we see up top. At least, as far as we could see on camera. There are newer types of sonar that could map this on all sides, but it's quite expensive, I think. A scientific team really needs to go there sometime. The rumor of "all previous equipment that was used to test it was sucked into the water and destroyed" seems a bit far-fetched given that, while the current is strong, it hasn't done that with anything that you've thrown in like the camera and light.
@jackasnacks
Жыл бұрын
Don’t have a single number but the 3 main ones that we found from this series were 65 meters from the sonar, 30 meters from my line test with the camera on the end and 12 meters from what a diver claimed it to be in the 1970s. All 3 of them aren’t definite answers though. My personal opinion is it’s somewhere between 12 and 30 meters with crazy overhangs!
