People are saying, just wait for V2 or V3. Maybe I will. First generation products do usually suck. And you pay the most for them that might be filled with bugs. Let them refine it a couple more times. My biggest concern is if I wait...What if it gets bigger and bigger like the Z Folds? I've read last year that the Oppo Find N3 to be released this year will only get bigger. Oppo may never return to the size of the first two gens. Maybe I'll wait for V2 or V3. I felt Pixel peaked at Pixel 2 XL and 3 any way. But I do hope they maintain this size for a couple more generations. I think that would be cool if Google offered us free Google Photos uploaded in OG quality for life like they did to Gen 1 Pixel owners. I think first gen owners deserves a perk like that again and not be used as guinea pigs for Google's beta products. They're paying so much upfront when Pixels are known to hit rock bottom prices in 6 months since they have terrible resale value. Can pick up a Pixel Fold for $800 in perfect condition from OfferUp by December. I saw a Pixel 7 go for $300 only a few months after release. That's half of its MSRP. Pixels are the cheapest to buy from sites like OfferUp since nobody really wants them like people who want Apple or Samsung.

If Surface Duo and Find N2 had a baby... iPhone 13 mini: *131.5* x 64.2 x 7.7 mm Find N: *132.6* x 73 x 15.9 mm Find N2: *132.2* x 72.6 x 14.6 mm Pixel Fold: *139.7* x 79.5 x 12.1 Duo 1: 145.2 x 93.3 x 9.9 mm Duo 2: 145.2 x 92.1 x 11 mm Fold 3: 158.2 x 67.1 x 14.4-16 mm Fold 4: 155.1 x 67.1 x 14.2-15.8 mm I think Pixel Fold is THE ONE for me. Rounded sides. Not the flatter ones that Samsung seems to be pushing for since last year with the S22 Ultra. Fingerprint scanner on the side for instant unlocking. That 139 mm matches nearly the same height as my Nexus 5. That's 16 mm shorter than the Fold 4 while still having the same 7.6" inner display albeit in a 6:5 aspect ratio and still having a smaller footprint in height and thickness. If only Google had priced this at $999.. Samsung would be sweating and be forced to lower the price on their foldables. I remember when iPhone X first came out, people whined spending $1,000 on a phone. If a foldable gets priced at $1000, that's a bargain. I read the Oppo Find N3 will have an 8" inner display compared to the 7.1" on their previous ones, hence, why the overall footprint will be much bigger. No more sizes like the iPhone 12 & 13 minis. This is why I feel obligated to get this Gen 1 Pixel Fold already. What if they go bigger and get those flatter sides? I may need to wait until Black Friday to get a really good discount on this. Or I can just wait for Pixel Fold 4 by 2026. I've been reading Google will go to TSMC with the Tensor G5. If Pixel Fold gets released in summers next to the Pixel a-series, that would mean it's always at least 8 months behind the flagship from the previous year. 2023: Tensor 3 2024: Tensor 4 2025: Tensor 5 (TSMC) 2026: Pixel Fold 4 using Tensor 5 For the next 2 years, Pixel fans will be stuck with Samsung foundries. Tensor 3 will be no better than Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Still using the Mali GPU and not the AMD one. But if I wait that long, no guarantee I'll enjoy the design and size from that future Pixel Fold 4 we haven't seen yet. So I might as well go for Gen 1 now and live with all the Gen 1 quirks. It seems a lot more refined for a Gen 1 product. Google took extra care with their first foldable, hence, the 2-year delay.

I'll be very fascinated how Michael Fisher will feel when he gets this Pixel Fold and reviews it. He's been using foldables since January 1, 2020. For this entire decade. But he's only been using Samsung foldables for the last 3.5 years. Those other ones are test units. Be curious how he'll feel going to a non-Samsung foldable as a daily driver for the first time in this decade. I actually really dig it because the Z Fold design never really made sense to me. It's too narrow when closed which makes typing from the front a nightmare. Sure, it's easier to grip but typing sucks. Then it's also too tall when closed. I think Google really nailed the dimensions to this. Short enough that it won't stick out of your pocket. Wide enough to type from the outside. Packs the same 7.6" inner display as the Z Fold 4 even with all those bezels but in a smaller footprint. I do believe the Z Fold 5 will have better scores than this Pixel Fold. We're comparing a Gen 5 product to a Gen 1. You would think Samsung would figure it out by now after 4 years of foldables. Their software experience should be more refined. Add the fact it has DEX. But I never understood the dimensions for them. Very , very few new smartphones excites me during the last few years but this seems like one of them. The Pixel Fold 1 is if the Surface Duo and Oppo Find N had a baby. I think this is going to be my favorite smartphone of the year even if it carries more flaws as the Z Fold 5 being that's it's a Gen 1 product without enough years of refinement. Looks way more pocketable and I love the fingerprint scanner is on the power button and not an in-display like the Pixel 6 and 7 which I hate. Too slow. Side button is way more instant. Looks like a winner, Michael Fisher. Can't wait for you to review it. I'll get it in white (or "porcelain") too and put a clear case on it like my iPhone X. Looks really classy with a clear case and the silver, chrome-y sides. And speaking of the sides, it's rounded like the Find N and N2. It seems since last year, Samsung is shaving the sides by making them flatter. I prefer them rounded. When closed Pixel Fold: 139.7 x 79.5 x 12.1 mm Z Fold 4: 155.1 x 67.1 x 14.2-15.8 mm Nearly the same height as the HTC One M7 and Nexus 5. Hell yeah! Hell naw to the price.

I still prefer the narrower Fold4. You can FIRMLY grip it in one hand folded AND unfolded EVEN WITH a case. When it's folded, you can actually use it one-handed, as your thumb reaches all the way across the screen. I noticed at 2:40, that your thumb never made it to the left edge of the Pixel screen, so the notion that you'll be able to type more comfortably is likely misplaced. And there is no way you're going to securely grip this thing in one hand, especially when you throw a case on it. I'll wait for the Fold5.

I have a Z Fold 3 and a Surface Duo 2 (both in excellent condition with Peak software)... so it doesn't really make sense for me to buy this phone... which is a wannabe of both of the phones I already have now Lol Don't get me wrong I like the Pixel Fold but Screen size and wideness its just like the Surface Duo 2 and obviously it's just like the Z Fold....literally it's nothing new.

For me with both folds , the price is the problem for me. With phones being $1000 starting 2018 and now in 2023 with most folds being between $1400 and $2000. Are you getting enough regular daily usage and software updates for a phone you will have for 2-5 years 5:19

It's not special enough for $1,799... Excuse me 1929 that's tax included. I was hoping that this would not be the pixel 7 pro just in a different form factor. That's just not good enough. It needs to have extra features that my current pixel doesn't have. It needs to be able to do something that even the Samsung foldable cannot do. Very disappointed.

The idea that anything in the foldable devices arena 'won the form factor wars' is a tad bit ridiculous. I have literally never seen a foldable device in real life. Samsung could be on it's 10th generation device, it wouldn't matter. These phones are mostly completely unknown to most consumers, so it's still anyone's market. If anything, watch a company (I'd be worried about Apple) sweep in and eat up market share.

Just preordered! Let's see how it stacks up against the Fold!!! Glad this dropped....Samsung will have to make the hinge smaller now.

Just say,you wouldn't buy it, and you don't recommend it. Why, elongate your response, way too much. Time is not good, for a ridiculously high priced option like this now with inflation and the many wars going on.

Traded my pixel 6pro to Verizon and received $900 trade in. Made my pixel fold $899. I've had it a few days and love it so far.😊

I wouldn't buy it at that price when we could pick up a cheaper galaxy fold 4 or even a fold 3. They dropped the ball on pricing to be this late in the game and it's only offering the same thing everyone else is with no incentive to buy it over the competition seeing as how pricing is the same as the competition but with lesser features.

Is it effectively a better multitasking machine than the surface duo is the real question. If googles OS can make single folding screen act as 2 different screens, then I'd definitely get the Google fold. Until then, the single folding screen isn't AS effective as having two screens to multi-task.

I am going to purchase a fold this year, but it will not be this one. I am going with the Fold 5. s-pen support, expect the same style of hinge so it will too fold flat. The UI, Multitasking, the task bar, good lock makes that decision easy.

I don't know to me it's is just a basic foldable phone, the real question is how Google will handle screen defects and warranties over time. I also think it''s too expennsive for what you're getting, wait a couple of months and they will be selling it for a lower price.

Trying to be objective .... Dex Stylus support Regardless what you say .. it's the first Gen..and in technology value... never go with first Gen. I don't pay for bezel ... and I have an IPhone 14 pro max and zfold 4 512gb black.. Pixel fold... meh for 1st Gen .. like 1st Gen Galaxy zfold 1.

The whole problem is the old fashioned design, huge bezels...... Still far to small, it should have been made taller.... Battery to small... Price is ridiculously.... Looks like first generation....

It’s not? That sucks. It’s too expensive anyway. For that price I would want it to either last a long time or be easy to sell after 2 years. I do hope we get the sequel.

@@sloppynyuszi No unfortunately.. only US, UK and Germany from what I've seen. Pixel fold is 1800usd, same price for the zfold 4 so I was hoping it would match the price of the fold 4 here 2500aud. iPhone 14 pro max is between 1900-2770aud in Aus and people buy these allllll day long. So yes it's expensive but I'd buy it.

You can only be impressed with a first generation product if it actually broke ground. For instance if it launched alongside the Galaxy Fold 1 four years ago. They had at least 4 years of research and development to go in to this product. Many before it risked it and paved the way for where we are at now.

Idk, Google Fi is offering the Samsung fold 4 for ~$1000 without a trade in. For comparable features plus the maturity of a 4th gen platform AND nearly half the cost? No brainer. Also, Google has a bad history with pixel problems upon rollout. The pixel 2, pixel 4, pixel 6...

I like a wider phone. Rumor has it Oneplus is going to launch a fold phone in 3Q of 2023 (based off the Oppo Find N2. How ever the fold open display will probably be 8") Price wise it has to match or undercut Samsung and Google folding phones. Then that will make 3 phones to choose from instead of one for the US market.
