I'm obviously going to be biased because I'm a Packers fan, but I don't get why the teams are so willing to replace the historic stadiums in the NFL. There are so few of the older stadiums left and I'd think they'd want to preserve the history. In baseball they would riot if they didn't try to preserve the historic stadiums, but it seems the NFL is fine abandoning historic stadiums. I hope the Chiefs stay at Arrowhead and renovate.

Arrowhead stadium proves there is a rampant contradiction problem in the NFL as it pertains to stadium ratings. Jacksonville Jaguars play in a stadium with recent upgrades like two gigantic scoreboards. Regional amenities like a swimming pool, beach cabanas, and palm trees and great location by water, but because it's market is not as supported or has longevity like Kansas City Chiefs, its stadium is considered subpar as compared to Arrowhead stadium, which has great space to tailgate, loud seating bowl, but tiny score board and outdated facade. Jaguars stadium is always at the bottom in stadium rankings but a pro football stadium located in an obscure location on gigantic slab of concrete is rated higher.

Don’t kid yourself. Renovations are not about making stadiums “better”. The ONLY thing that matters in a renovation is making changes that increase non-shared revenue in accordance with the NFL revenue sharing agreement; this means club seats, luxury suites, concession revenue, in stadium advertising and parking. Everything else that comes along with a renovation is just fluff.

The Chiefs will move to the KCK side. Any renovations that don't include enclosing Arrowhead, would be for nothing. And the cost of enclosing and repurposing the area that used to be Royals Stadium, would cost more than the new stadium. The people of Jackson county will not support any tax increase that would have to pull in the money to pay for that, either. Only a new facility would garner the events that Arrowhead would not be able to attract. Also there are more things to draw people to the area where the new stadium would be built. Each area would compliment each other. Where Arrowhead is now, only games or concerts bring people to the area. Kansas has the ball in their court, and only Kansas will determine the future of where the chiefs will play in the future.

If they renovate it or build a new one, it will just be to create more luxury suites that price out the average NFL fan. All of this stadium drama you see across the country is just so the rich owners of these teams can get richer. This isn't me being anti-capitalist. It is just me saying that pro sports stadiums should be for the working class fans who are the main people that devotedly support these teams. Arrowhead has one of the best atmospheres in the NFL, if not the best. Why mess around with that.

This guy gets it. Entertainment costs money and stadiums are important civic structures. It makes perfect sense that public funds would be used to build them just as public funds are used for schools, theaters, museums, zoos, etc. Then there's the know-it-alls who love to quote economic studies that have nothing to do with the average person who isn't looking to capitalize on the new stadium by opening a business near it. The only "economic analysis" needed is asking yourself if your willing to keep paying a few bucks a month to have pro sports and world class venues in your city. If your answer is no, why are you living in a city when you could simply move to a small town where nothing ever happens and be left alone? Also, random people on the Internet don't care about the city you live in, don't let cranky buzz kills tell you what's best for your city.

I don't live locally but have been to Kaufman multiple times. I think the downtown park is great followed by the Arrowhead rebuild. I think it works for that market. Improving Arrowhead would be a waste of money. I understand the ownership has to decide what is profitable but so does the city in a place that can not spend massively every year. The repeated speculations about the Chiefs "gaining space" if the Royals leave Kauffman are pure nonsense. Each stadium operates in its own bubble. Either facility could complete exterior expansions without impinging on the other's space. Neither would have to move. If either teamed wished to brings its stadium exterior up to Ginger's imagined standard, it could do so by reconfiguring roads and parking lots within the Truman Sports Complex. Furthermore,, there is no such thing as "baseball parking lots." The parking lots serve the Truman Sports Complex, not individual stadiums. On baseball days, the cars of baseball-goers fill those spaces. On football days, the cars (and grills) of football-goers fill those spaces. The parking capacity serves the capacity of a full Arrowhead alone. (The most remote lots are never open for baseball games. Not needed.) The lots cannot support simultaneous use of both stadiums if Arrowhead is more than half-filled. If the baseball stadium disappears, the Chiefs will gain no lots as the parking infrastructure would be exactly the same. The Chiefs' renovation renderings repurposed only the space taken up by the baseball stadium structure itself. (And I fully concur that those renderings underwhelmed.) Rather than simply increase parking capacity, it seems the Chiefs sought to create something "fun" in that space. (To reiterate: lackluster!)

Sounds like a money grab at the expense of the tax payers. I am sure PSL will also be a part of this. No wonder it did not pass.
