Good thing im not in customer service because in my mind I already threw food on his face…im in Canada and Ive seen a woman act like this to the mother of a child with down’s syndrome at the pharmacy and she called the child the name of an animal I wont repeat…in front of my mom, me and the parent and child. Needless to say that person, my mother and me got in a heated argument and were so so apologetic to the parent and their child for having to go through this…people are shitty and you have to stand up to them. Core memory: I was at McDonalds with my parents when I was about 7. A man with obvious learning disabilities pulled out a letter and asked my parents to read it because he couldn't read. In my old work we had a lovely group of people with down syndrome, who'd come in to watch a movie together every Sunday afternoon. They were so fun to talk to and I looked forward to our chats while they ordered their food. However, I cannot tell you just how many times I had to raise my voice to people in the queue behind. People would tell them to hurry up (and tell me to serve them first..) but as I used to always tell them "you take all the time you need, because anyone who has an issue can take it up with me. And anyone who does take an issue will be told where to shove it". The lack of compassion people have for their fellow human beings is embarrassing. Just to mention, I would always make sure those complaining wouldn't be late for their movie (but it's always the weirdos that turn up an hour early that complain the most).

I have been told several times that my son possibly could do better in an inclusive kindergarten. But given that the next one is 45 minutes away each drive and they have limited capacity... I always tell people who say that that my son (who is healthy but struggles a little with larger groups of kids) doesn't need to take such a place away from a child who might really need that support they provide. And as I have seen more and more children who actually are looking for a place in an inclusive school or kindergarten, I get extra furious when people tell me to think of my son first. Ofc I do, I am his mother. But in those situations I can't just think that my son deserves this more than a child with severe down syndrome or a child in a wheelchair. That would be selfish and unreasonable. Thank you for being so lovely to everyone of your customers though. That's not common :)
@jollyquinn430
2 жыл бұрын
I also think it's important for other kids to be around kids with down syndrome or other mental challenges. Like that kids can learn how to treat them and how to create a space safe for everyone. I'm living next to a kindergarten for everyone. Every group has neurotypical and neurodivergent kids and kids with down syndrome or kids in wheelchairs. I love that. That kindergarten is quite new. And they have bunnies, turtles, ponies and dogs (and the animals get taken care of even at weekends). I love that the kids learn also the responsibility of taking care of animals. I love whenever I go by and a child chats with me about the most random stuff. One girl even explained to me that one pony died and why and what happens when someone dies. So the kids even learn about death in a healthy way. Oh and they grew vegetables. They even learn that! And the kindergarten often brings something new for them. I often see new stuff in their garden. It's really a perfect kindergarten. And I only heard great things about it from other parents.

The sad thing is jerks like this really exist. My big brother was in a wheelchair his whole life and he was bullied tremendously for it. One time this boy and his friends took my brother to the field at school, took his wheels off his wheelchair and left him there. My brother was stuck there for hours until his friend found him and got him to my mom. My mom reported the incident to the principal and a meeting was set up between the bully and his mom and my mom and brother. My mom saw the bully’s mother walk out of her car, pull a cheap little wheelchair out of her trunk, and sat in it and pretended to be handicapped. My mom called her out on this in the meeting but in the end the principal caved and the bully got let off with zero punishment. My brother had to change schools and be held back so my other brother could look out for him better.

That man was so rude. I definitely would’ve taken extra time to respond to him 😂

My son has down syndrome. I have met some of the kindest, most wonderful people in the world with my son. I have also met some of the most horrible, rude, selfish people in the world too. We had an experience like this at Walmart, but the woman didn't realize I was his mother. I could've slugged her. I called her out on being so rude, and I think when I actually spoke up it embarrassed her. She left her groceries and never checked out. I just don't understand people sometimes.

It must be a little scary to play the bad guy for WWYD since people will take that out of context. I bet they can’t wait for the reveal. Like they must honestly be sweating out of impatience

as being a server myself I wouldn’t even dignify that man with a response and let him wait even longer.

I would have sat down beside him and said, "I'm his guardian sorry I took so long in the bathroom, what's the problem here?!"😡🥷 Let me tell you, people with Downs are the most loving humans you will ever meet!! They do not deserve hate!!

It's mind-blowing that nobody told that man to stfu. I work in restaurants and that dude would be banned for life before he can even finish his stupid question.
