I liked the scene in season one (I think) when Elle came over to Tao's house and his mom made them keep the door open. While it is a little awkward, it's just nice to see a show where people's parents aren't constantly upset about trans people, and it's never an issue that Elle is trans for them.

Yes! I loved that bit. There are so many little subtle things that shouldn’t have to feel special, but do.

Casual representation is my favorite type of representation, ofc it’s nice to see stories focusing on lgbtqia+ people discovering their own identities and the hardships that come with it (specially for me, since I’m cishet and wouldn’t be able to experience such thing), but for me casual rep is the best way to normalize it

One of the things I liked about the comic was how awkward conversations would come with huge pauses as they both struggled with how to be emotionally open with each other. Resonated with me as a dude lol

Yess I loved that about it. It felt so authentic. I've also always thought awkwardness helped to show the evolution of a relationship.

I love all the points you made! Especially about Nick vs Ben and about Elle and Tao dating. I do remember being really pleasantly surprised by the queer representation in Heartstopper when I first watched it. In my opinion, it definitely does it wayyyyy better than the rest of the queer YA shows out there. Nice video!

KZitem keeps recommending me crappy "anti-woke" videos with 500 views so having this gem in my feed was a nice surprise.

Great video but like, can’t we have both? we can depict the struggles that lgbt people face in real life and also have both a happy ending and positive message, can’t we?

Totally! I appreciated how the Heartstopper show and comic talk about the struggles, but also the beauty of the community and how they can all uplift each other.

It's not focused on it,, but Lilith from the owl house is aroace according to the word of God(aka,, the creator)

Oh yeah! I love how AroAce characters are getting a chance to appear on screen now. I heard yesterday that there's now a canon AroAce Star Wars character and that warmed my heart.

I disagree with one point in your video. I don't believe Ben is bi, I think he is gay and only uses girls as a cover

Maybe 🤔 I’m not 100% sure honestly since I don’t believe they ever say in the show or comic explicitly 🤷

Thanks so much for posting this. Agree with all your points. Heartstopper inspires so many people because it has both representation and positivity. You're right that most queer material resolves issues in a negative way whereas in HS ithey're resolved in a way that shows growth and maturity for the characters. We need more queer storeis like this on TV.

I’m so glad you liked it! And yes, I totally agree. I love the way that Heartstopper is able to show difficulty without making it feel hopeless. The community is beautiful!
