The medallion class now makes the experience better. Faster to embark and disembark. Also, I would advise spending a few dollars when boarding to purchase the wristband that the medallion fits into. The lanyard doesn't do it for me. You can use the medallion for everything. You can pre populate your details and favourite stuff on the ocean ready app. Also, the internet on the Regal (July 2019) wasn't too bad. I didn't do a speed test but I would say it operated at between 5 and 12 mips. It's not great but much better than it used to be. Another tip re gratuities. Even if you pre-select no daily gratuities to hit your account, princess will still charge you. So you need to go to the main desk prior to a few days before the trip finishes and have it cancelled and they will undo any previous charges. I prefer to tip directly.

My first ever cruise was around a decade ago on the emerald princess when it was pretty much a brand new ship. We sailed around the Caribbean and I loved every second of it. The food was amazing, eating whenever I wanted and different regional themed foods at the buffet everyday. Recently, I just came back from my second cruise which was on a carnival ship because a friend invited my GF and I. It was leagues below what I experienced on princess (food was meh, too loud, “mysterious stains” on our pillows and just overall a meh experience). My GF and I will definitely be sailing Alaska on a princess cruise hopefully next year.

The first night on board I purchase a magnet of the ship I am sailing on. This is not only a nice souvenir, but very useful during the trip. Every night my mail box is filled with papers, some needed, some not so much. Information about the next day's port is stuck to the wall opposite my bed, using my handy little magnet. This is an item I want handy but it doesn't need to take up space in my safe. It is also useful for leaving messages for the other person in the cabin. As handy as Princess@Sea sounds, sending texts to others is complicated by the fact that there is no notification on the receiving end.

The Anker USB power port has surge protection on it. Princess does not allow multi-port chargers with surge protection. The will confiscate the unit and return at disembarkation. I don't know what the odds are of them finding and removing it are, but, just in case bring backup chargers.
@TravelingFlamingo
4 жыл бұрын
They do not, almost all of the smaller 5v USB systems do not contain surge protectors (which is why power strips are banned). Generally you can tell if its 3 prong or not (as when there is a surge a Metal Oxide Varistor dumps the additional voltage to the ground pin) and if there is no ground pin, there is no surge protection. You can find some 2 prong surge protector but they are generally either lying, not up to code or expect you to ground it to the centre pin of the wall plate. Hope that clarifies! Happy Travels

One caveat I'd add is to watch out about booking on the "Pacific Princess". It's a very old ship, and has no stabilizers. On a cruise in the Mediterranean, my family had their dinner plates and glasses sliding fast across the dining table. You tend to swallow your words at the end of sentences, so slow down and speak the entire sentence distinctly. You don't have to fit everything into a 30-sec spot.

@@kays749 Yes, it's well maintained. BUT it's an old ship with NO horizontal stabilizers...in bad Mediterranean weather the ship rolls a lot, unlike modern ships with stabilization. Our experience with Princess, which is our favorite cruise company, is that gratuities are not normally included in the price of the cruise. The exceptions may be that: 1. You got a special deal where they are free, or 2. You prepaid your gratuities. They are normally charged daily to your room bill. At the end of the cruise they will be charged to your credit card on file or you can pay for them before leaving the cruise.

where are the disabled cabins located,are they accessable for outside doors? Do they help severely disabled to book excursions and special transport off the ship? Do they help personally with mobility around the ship ? For example disabled cabins should be near outside access doors to the deck to help with emergency exit regulations? P and O were not helpful for the disabled selling suitable disabled cabins to non disabled people resulting exclusion of disabled people entirely from cruise access basic legal mistake. At all times severely disabled people have first choice of location of cabins by law and cant be sold to non disabled if they are required by severely disabled people.

There is a pretty good channel called “cruising with wheels” who specializes in questions like this. m.kzitem.info/rock/PdJZcTwRNLXmZKY-nc98rg I do know disabled cabins are much more in demand as there are far fewer. We felt the accessibility on the ship was good with ramps almost everywhere. They also had lifts for all the pools.

What do think about the regal princess or royal princess
@TravelingFlamingo

We loved the Regal princess and there are only (generally) minor differences between the two ships with the regal being slightly newer with a few improvements. Overall it’s one of our favourite ships from the princess line (hopefully until we get to try the Sky princess). All things being equal I think the Regal is only very slightly better (some minor improvements and 1 year newer) but generally speaking they are nearly identical.

We usually do our via the cruise line. It is more expensive however you are guaranteed the ship won't leave without you (if there is a delay or what have you getting back to the ship) or if the ship does leave they will pay to get you back to the ship or to the next port. We haven't done Singapore but I'd assume traffic and such could be bad so I'd recommend going through the cruise line. You should be able to find the excursions the cruise line offers here: www.princess.com/ports-excursions/singapore-excursions/ and you should be able to order them through logging into princess.com (or setting up an account if you don't have one) and you should be able to buy your excursions through that. Can you help me with a question? If I want to eat breakfast in the main dining room (if that is possible), can you wear shorts at that time? Is it only for dinner you can't wear shorts or is it always? Hope someone can help me😊

The "Princess Patter" will let you know if they are doing breakfast in the main dining rooms but its not always available and you can't get reservations so good to show up early and get that spot if that's what you're looking for. Its casual so short will be allowed but no swim attire. Hope that helps Berit, Happy Travels 🦩

Do you recommend princess for Alaska
@TravelingFlamingo

Yes we liked our Alaska cruise on princess but it depends on what your looking for and how your travel. If you like a relaxed more laid back cruise Princess is great. If your and/or your family is big on doing as much as you can then something like NCL or Royal Caribbean may be more up your alley, for us, Princess for Alaska was great. We created playlist for you which you may be interested in with our Alaska based videos: kzitem.info/news/bejne/padotap4rHaJq4Y

I read 14.50 a day for someone booked with a balcony. I don't know if this includes waiter and assistant staff in the main dining room where we will be dining. I haven't been on a cruise in a very long time. We used to have an envelope for our room steward and waiter and his assistant. We never bought/ordered wine at dinner so we did not tip the wine steward. I'm just not sure what this 14.50 a day covers. Help!

You can pay for your gratuities in advance. Buffet restaurant is very unhygienic, there are wash stations as you enter the buffet, I observed a large number of people walking past and touching food, the self serve is unhealthy too.

Some people love the buffet others not so much :). I wouldn't disagree with there being some people who have no understanding of personal boundaries! :D That said, I think we should all applaud people who call out those who touch all the food with their hands. We do however love a real sit down restaurant over the buffet :D. Thanks for commenting and watching Peter!

Sailed in last week in May 2019 and the internet was SLOW!!!!!!!!. Also purchased the must used package which was $100 for 200 minutes. After viewing one youtube video and watching my minutes dwindle to half, I only checked email for the remainder of the cruise. Also, by being slow, you lose minutes as well. But, you have now choice. Also watch out for use of your cell phone. If you do not put it in airplane mode then you will get extra "sea charge" from your carrier for all the stuff that downloads behind the scenes.

The Robes are NOT to be worn to the Pool. Only in your room.

Are the drinks packages worth getting
@TravelingFlamingo
5 жыл бұрын
Princess specifically is pretty good with their drink packages, its about $60US per person but all people (of drinking age) in the cabin need to buy it. So provided everyone in the room will have 4-5 drinks each day it works out even. That said a lot of times you're probably on an excursion so you will need to rush those drinks at the end of the day! :). We usually don't get one as it doesn't work out in terms of money for us. That said don't forget you can bring onboard 1 750ml bottle of wine if that's something you would want to do.
@donnasheets7277

@@TravelingFlamingo - dumb question from me - so, since it's me and my husband traveling, we can carry in our checked luggage two bottles of wine. And there is no corkage fee for those, correct? We just keep the wine in our room then?
@TravelingFlamingo
5 жыл бұрын
@@donnasheets7277 That's totally correct. 1 bottle (750ml) of wine consumed in a stateroom is totally free. Also that is per-person of legal drinking age. Any more and each bottle will have a $15 USD corkage fee applied. Generally this should also be taken as carry-on. You may also want to pack a corkscrew in your luggage just in case! :)

Gratuities are not part of your price. They are additional & you can prepay or be charged on board on your account. Also, the pods for he washers do work in the washing machines. I always bring a few pods and some dryer sheets to use. Doing this you do not need to pay $3.00 per token to purchase detergent, dryer sheets and your washers and dryers. Save money where you can. I've cruised 13 times thus far, most being on princess. Please check your facts before putting out a video with incorrect info?

Just completed Princess cruise and found the laundry rooms neat and clean. After tallying up what it would cost to do one load with detergent, dryer sheets, wash and dry, decided to use the ship's laundry service. Cost was $10 self-serve and $20 they do it. You are correct about gratuities. Also she left out the room steward, who I got to know well and he took good care of us.

My wife and I have not been on Princess together. Your water-bottle business, as you described it, doesn't appeal to us. Do not all major cruise lines properly recycle the empties? I use a cane and often have to grab onto things for balance so I can't be carrying a water bottle unless it's small and in my pocket. Backpacks are out of the question. And running up and down to fill the bottles (any size) by your method would be really tedious as would carrying them back to the room. We need 3 regular bottles a night each. So here is what we do. At a discount store in our departure port we purchase 24 bottles of good brand-name water like Nestlé Pure Life, and we fit those into one empty airplane carry-on equipped with wheels and a handle. None of the cruise lines we have sailed with have said anything about bringing the water on board. Of course we are popular with the staff cuz we say nice things about them to their supervisors.😎
@TravelingFlamingo

To be clear, you do not have to bring a water bottle on board, you're more than welcome to bring your own or to buy bottles of water on the ship however for us, we just bring a water bottle and fill it up. Whatever works for you is the best thing to do! So for sure, do as you please! Bring a bottle, don't bring a bottle, just enjoy your cruise we say!
