One of the best "No Nonsense" videos on how tho use an antique wood cook stove. I'm 80 years old and have been around old stoves for a long time now. There are suggestions that I could make about this but, I'll only add what I do with my 1917 "Home Comfort" cook stove. I tend to let the ashes build up so that the stove can't get as much air and burn the wood faster. Thank you Steve for your quality advice!

When we first got the stove we would shake the ashes out each time before starting it. Over the past few years we learned that the stove ran better after the ashes had time to build up so now we dont bother to push the ashes down. We burn mostly eastern white pine and can heat the cabin up pretty quick. We typically start it for breakfast and keep it pittleing along until lunch. Then we let it go out and restart it for supper. As soon as supper is made we stop feeding it and put on layers through the night to stay comffy. Thanks for watching!

😅Thank you! There was an unbelievable amount of decades old fine ash around our oven and I guess we need a damper. I always thought it was Lily Munster dusting my house.

Very well explained. My family in N.C. Had one of those in the 60's. Cooking in the summer, I remember there house was hot in the kitchen. Those stoves are kind of neat. Thanks for sharing. Was 11 above this A.M. in Iowa

Yes, they put out a lot of heat and we avoid using it at almost all costs when its warm out side. I would really like to fabricate an outdoor cook stove to take the place of our LP grill we have been using to cook with durring the warm months. Looks to be above freezing here for a few days, spring might be on its way!

Such a smart design. I will have to keep an eye out for something like this.

We found our cook stove on facebook marketplace. Its biggest downside is the small firebox which cannot burn for more than an hour in the best of circumstances. Thanks for watching.

Great explanation, thank you. I recently got an old Majestic with a very similar design and have been trying to figure out the start up and operating procedures. This was a great help. Thanks again.

Thanks for the tutorial. You may not put water in that old teakettle, but if you don't, it's a good idea to do so and just let it steam, with the steam going out the spout. That puts moisture into your house, and with wood heat the air in houses gets too dry.

Thanks for watching. Because we built our cabin with fresh cut, wet, lumber we havent been dry inside yet but we would certainly start adding moisture via the tea kettle if we felt the air in the cabin being too dry.

How often do you have to clean chimney pipe. I grew up with a wood kitchen stove in the 50’s. I remember our dog sleeping behind the stove at night. We tried to find a stove for summer kitchen with no luck. We burned corn cobs in the summer to cook on. Also used pipe cones to help start fire. Thanks for sharing.

We have plenty of pine cones. I will tell Patience to have the boys fill a garbage can this fall to keep them dry for next winter. We clean the chimney once a year in the summer. Thanks for watching.

LOL, I also remember the dog behind the cook stove. No one got into that house without the dog coming alive instantly. Ahhh, the memories of childhood
