We hear the beautiful melodies, and we can see what your fingers were doing.. This was a good idea ! Thank you Christy-Lyn. 💕😊Alan

Oh I’m glad you like the idea! I’ve been thinking of making future teaching videos from this perspective... do you think that would be helpful? 😊

Learning the Harp with Christy-Lyn! . I think it would be helpful and rewarding fun for teacher and students. “ I am going to play CEG, with my right hand. Watch carefully 😊. Finger 3 on C, 2 on E, 1 on C. Notice how I put 3 fingers on strings simultaneously. This takes practice. Watch me. Now I make beautiful sounds like this. 😊. Here is a small part of a melody. Look at my right hand. I will play it very slowly. Now look at my left hand.......Next lesson. Short phrases very slowly played and repeated, as we look over your shoulder. 😊. You are teacher Christy-Lyn, a cheerful, encouraging teacher. You know how to help your students. A friendly smile from Alan 😊

Hi Chirsty! Thanks for making this. I'm reassured that I'm holding it at about the right angle. I'm working on Feeling Nostalgic and After the Rain. And a couple others. I hope to tackle your fingering videos in a couple weeks.

This is enormously helpful. It's also a lovely showcase for your impeccable technique! I'm learning "Behind the Flames" at the moment, and am amazed how you manage to pluck the first 2 notes right into your palm and then magically place them almost instantaneously for the next 3! How?!
@LearningtheHarp

Haha that’s very sweet of you to say! It depends on your hands - it’s ok if your fingers just pluck in the direction of your palm but don’t close all the way if you don’t have time. The important thing is to get the direction of the plucking right, and to stay relaxed. So don’t worry if it doesn’t look exactly like me! Also I have short fingers and long thumbs so my thumbs always look extra high compared to other people 😆

"Foggy Mountain View" is, like you, beautiful and contemplative. I find it especially appropriate and reflective of mountain fog as I live in the Great Smoky Mountains and see a LOT of fog, different kinds, too. There's something mysterious, yet alluring, yet spiritual awakened within ourselves when we see fog. The same with your composition. Thank you so much for sharing! I'm headed over to purchase this one right now!

This is so helpful. I watched it a year ago, but now I am in a different place in my harp journey. So I see things this time that I wouldn’t know to catch before! Thank you!

I love the perspective! I finally got my harp! It’s not the Dusty Strings I wanted, but I got a great alternative-the Flatscicle Harpsicle with adjustable stand, strap and Harpsicle Stick. I’ve been learning on my own the past month but am ready to phone a teacher I found not too far away from me. Want to get that technique down better! The viewpoint on this video really helps me see what I should be seeing as I play. Love all your arrangements, too. It’s nice to have music that isn’t too difficult and yet very beautiful and expressive. Difficult to decide which to purchase. Hopefully I can join your sheet music club in the near future. 🙂

This is wonderful news, Shannon!!! After all this time you finally have a harp, amazing! Congrats. All the best with contacting that teacher - you won’t regret investing in good technique early on 👍🏻 Thanks for the compliments about my arrangements! It would be interesting to hear if your teacher likes them - you could send her to this video or my website to see what she thinks ❤️ It is most cost effective to join my sheet music club because you get to download all past sheet music right away, and after that a new one every month for the same price as purchasing directly from my website 👍🏻👍🏻

Lovely. It was also so helpful to see how you did the lifts, raising your hands after a chord--where your hand went up and out. I've struggled with doing that in a graceful way, so it was so fine to be able to watch you do it.

thank you Christy-Lyn, well played ! And you have chosen good harmonic pieces. I am a beginner and like these "simple" harmonies, repeating and coming in new variations. This is now my favourite learning-video - thank you and much love 💙💙💙

Hallo Christy-Lyn, the other videos I like are many, for instance "one skill harpist should know" because there you show the sheet notes plus the relevant strings - this is for me also very helpful (bass key notes are always difficult to read for me, still) . I am an elderly beginner, I play the harmonic sounds and relax while doing so. - Further I like the videos, where you play and sing, - this is just for motivation and I like to listen your performances. Thank you for all , please continue - love 🌻🌻🌻

Ah yes, the view I haven’t seen... in 2 years. Since I switched over to pedal harp. It’s a nostalgic view, reminds me of primary school ( I switched over to pedal harp early in middle school, but I occasionally did play on the lever harp whenever my harp centre didn’t have enough pedal harps ). I’m tempted to play the songs myself, they look simple enough so I hope my sight reading won’t give up on me halfway through. Welp, guess I’ll get to printing music sheets then...

Oh pushed the send button sorry. I'm sitting here in Arizona watching this great video and I feel like I'm right there. thank you so much for doing it this way. I think I made a comment in one of the other videos you made, suggesting people slow down the speed which is what I did with this video again to exactly see your finger placement. it's so easy for people to do. all they need to do is just go to the settings and switch to .75 and it makes a big difference when you're trying to learn what you're doing. Thank you again for the lovely concert :-)

or perhaps show us sometime what is does look like from the other side of the harp! Not that we'd ever see that anyway, but it might be informative.
