Love is bullshit. As long as you got a couple of women to call for the occasional blowjob or roll in the hay whenever the urge rises, having a wife and a "loving relationship" is mostly a waste of time with unecessary commitments. The problem with India isn't that they're not "marrying out of love". The problem is people marrying at all.

Low divorce rate doesn't mean they satisfy their marriage. The society is not welcoming the divorced women so they cannot stand alone with the child. Their family think she's a disgrace of the family. Also, women suffer patiently as they think 'if I do well my husband will stop. And for my child not to be teased by their friend because he or she doesn't have father, I have to undergo.' This is why people cannot divorce. This happens not only in India, but also many of the Asian countries.

It was touched upon in the video, but I find it important to note that there is a difference between "Arranged marriage" and "Forced marriage". Arranged is something your parents... arrange for you, and you and the other person decide if it works out (although there might be various kinds of pressure, of course); in Forced marriage you do not have a choice. A lot of people, when thinking of Arranged marriage, are actually thinking of forced marriages. Just a point to think about.

There is a thin line between arranged and forced marriage, can you say "No" without any fear after your family has brought a guy/girl you do not like? If you can say no, how many times can you keep saying no. A lot of people are compelled to marry by family pressure so they reluctantly say yes not to disappoint their parents or waste their time and effort so although it was arranged it was also forced. It will not be forced where you are allowed to say no as many times as possible without any pressure or guilt tripping from your family.

I'm European and I think marrying someone because of feelings is extremely dangerous. Feelings change and the "butterflies" usually disappear after a few month or years. People in Europe and America make a big deal about marrying someone because of "love", but in reality they mainly like each other because of sexual attraction. Sexual attraction wears off as you age. That's why so many people in their 40's, 50's and 60's get divorced here. The feelings are gone, living together is no longer exciting and you start to go bald or gained weight and have wrinkles... I think it's much more logical to look for a partner who shares the same views, opinions and has the same goals like you. Then you have a solid base on fundemental things you agree on and therefore less fighting. If they have a nice personality, a healthy relationship with their family and can manage to afford and support a family... well: you got yourself a good match for a stable and long-term relationship. I disagree that in an arranged marriage the couple has to get married so quickly. They should be allowed to date for at least one year and THEN decide if they want to marry that person. This way people who "play nice" (but who are abusive or have an abusive family) can be filtered out by investing more time and waiting instead of getting married so quickly. That's just my opinion...

Amen sister! I wish I could salute you. My brother and I talked about this thoroughly some years back. Then one of my pastors brought up the idea of what you said...feelings are dangerous. You really want an objective decision so parents and your really best buddies should be involved because they love you and will 99% of the time tell you the truth. We are way too individualistic in USA for our own good. Getting others input does not mean you do not have a brain and can give your opinion it is just allowing others to give input on what YOU might not be seeing because you are so "in love". As iI get older I see the wisdom in this...so I think a mixture of the two is prudent. :D

The main reason why arranged marriage is really big in India is because the meaning of marriage is different in India as compared to the western countries. In the west it is about finding someone you love and want to spend the rest of your life with. but in India it is about not so much about loving , sex with your partner ,romance or stuff like that but about raising kids.Indian parents are crazy protective of their kids they can sacrifice everything for their kids. In a marriage their own happiness, sex life ,respect etc come secondary to what is best for their kids. That is why divorce rates are so low in India because people don't divorce even if they are in a loveless marriage because it is not good for the kids That is why Indian kids and Indian people are among the most successful all over the world. Sadly the western culture of sex without any strings attached and one night stands is infecting the minds of the young people ,so our future kind of looks bleak.

*Lowest divorce rates in india is because of "chaar log kya kahenge?" ie what will the society say!! And major reason is also the women are not financially independent. They stay in maariage because of societal stigma and pressure and carry on for rest of the life. And it's pretty common thinking too. The day we change these things that day we will accept love marriages and divorces too.*

@alinachrist8416

@Saloni Pandey born out of wedlock? Wtf man? If kids are born before marriage there is nothing wrong with it if the partners are committed and in a relationship. Indian people don't give a flying hippo about relationships. Women mostly want a husband who will just bend to their whims and allow them money while men want women as a bedwarmer and child givers for meeting family's expectations. Most couples don't actually 'love' each other but are carrying on the relationship for the sake of society. And believe me, no one gets divorce for cat fights, you stupid. If u don't respect your partner's friends or family or wishes, being together isn't good. If u can talk it out, it's ok but if it doesn't then you should definitely get divorce That is why western people actually 'think' with their brains rather than jumping into marriages that their parents arranged for them. Westerns prefer to date first and marry later to test compatability. What use it is if u just make a life long commitment to your partner and then realise that your relationship is toxic and abusive and giving you stress? Bcoz of mindless goats like you, women stay quite while facing violence and don't divorce bcoz they think they are going to be declared 'exaggerating' the situation. Even a slap, if intended, should trigger a question on the relationship otherwise it is an unhealthy one. If my partner doesn't agree on future plans such as housing, friends, jobs or family plans then I have full rights for divorce. So stfu

I know a girl in my neighborhood, I used to play with her everyday when we were kids and now she is in 12th grade. She felt in love with a guy who belonged to lower caste. When her parents came to know about that, they threatened her to dump him otherwise they will have to change her school. So she and her boyfriend ran from their homes and we're missing for 10 days. And everyone in the society already knew about that. They searched them within 10 days, they were found near a temple that was 10 miles from their homes. So in order to retain their families self-respect the very next day they planned an arranged marriage for her, her fiance was 24 y/o and she was just 17 y/o. Obviously she did not want to marry a stranger. She begged and cried in front of her parents but they didn't do anything. I don't know what happened to her boyfriend. But it was very disheartening to see her in that condition because I was invited to her wedding. I know it is very barbaric that even today caste system is attached like a leech to our Indian society. Since then I never fallen for a cute guy, only in this fear of loving someone from bottom of my heart and only to lose him due to this caste system. Just 🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕caste system. I know it is very hard to eliminate caste system from our parents perspective. But we Indian youth have the power to change it. If they truly have their son or daughter's best interest at heart, they might be able to vet the spouse to be and it's plausible they might offer a more objective view on compatibility. the problem with dating is that you don't always have the ability to be objective because you're blinded by love.

Let's differentiate between forced marriage and arranged marriage. With force there is no choice with arrange there is and you can say no. Arrange marriages are practiced in many different cultures all over the world. I personally don't mind it. It makes everything easier if my parents find a guy for me that they like and the obviously would recommended one they are happy with then i don't have to worry about family problems as those are the worst. If both families are happy than that relationship has a high chance on success if I find some one through love I would jump on that opportunity as well but everyone doesn't have that luxury.

harp Dunno really. But l guess ultimately it doesn't matter whether it's arranged marriage or love marriage. Some people just click together. Some end up changing and become abusive or can't get along. I've known cases where arrange marriage has been incredibly successful and in over 30+ years of marriage couples have rarely ever had a fight. On the other there are also arranged marriages that have failed after a year or two. Same can also be said of love marriages truth to be told. Even though you feel like you know a person there is a chance that his/her personality will change over time due to stress or some other factors. But I guess I do understand what you're trying to say.

I'm afraid it'll still have the lowest or a fairly low divorce rates. Eastern cultures value society over individual, something we here in the west still have to learn. Also divorce might not be financially viable to most Indians considering the fact that the country as a whole is still quite poor. I feel most young Indians from metros have unfortunately bought into the idea that western society is a kind of utopia but an overwhelming majority of the people in rural and semi urban parts have a completely different mindset. Most of them wouldn't do what you think they would

I feel like there are three main reasons for the low divorce rates in India. The first is the stigma of divorce, especially for women. For many people it is simply not an option. The second reason is more positive. In the west we have extremely high expectations on our partners; we expect them to be our rock emotionally, be romantic, be our best friend and satisfy us materially. in India the expectations are lower and love grows gradually. The third is the extended family system. While it can be a pain sometimes, it can also be a source of great support. In the west we don't usually get the same support from our families and communities. Lack of support can be a huge stress on a marriage.

@huemins

I dunno I get the feeling that there is a lot of butthurt and protectionism going on in these comments. As a total outsider who hears little about India or many other countries, usually the only things I hear through standard news outlets is when something bad or big happens in a country (like the demonstrations in Hongkong right now for example). So I wouldn't say that the media portrayal I usually get is a super positive one, but that doesn't automatically mean that I don't understand that there is more to know about a country than the few impressions I get through these news channels. From that perspective, Asian Boss actually gives me a little bit more insight contrasted to what I usually hear about India (almost nothing lol). So... I dunno. I never understood the standard news media in my country to portray anything that happens elsewhere in a particularly "positive" or "negative" light. And... interviews... are usually asking people their personal opinions, without questioning where they got that opinion from. Which is why "good" interviews - when it comes to true representation and being possibly objective/neutral in their portrayal - have a variety of opinions presented, including contradicting ones. That requires the people preparing the interview to put aside bias, to put a lot of thought (possibly research) into knowing the different standpoints basically and to put time and effort into finding people (in this case young ones) who represent all of these (+ balancing all of it out when editing the material). I would say altho having grown into a "big" channel when it comes to viewers and the amount of Asian countries they try to cover, I understand AsianBoss to be a people's project that comes together through the efforts of curious and dedicated but mostly "unprofessional" people. I wouldn't want to hold them to the same standards I expect from teams of (at least on paper) "professionals". Also I would expect the viewers of a youtube channel of dedicated private persons to understand this, too. In the end, I would consider most "professional" news outlets being to some extend biased and "opinionated", if not in the way they speak about a topic, then by leaving out certain aspects of topics. Also the interviewer chipped in at the end to give a presumably positive perspective on/aspect of the topic. ...and if the people that commented in this threat about AsianBoss being Anti-India are part of that "not so narrowminded" Indian society, I beg to differ and have my doubts xD (cause these are highly narrow-minded opinions I'd love to hear actual arguments for)

Being Asian myself, I see that the majority of my peers still see themselves living with parents (either from his or her side) even after marriage. I think that's an issue, I probably feel that way because I live in America. Yes, we love our parents and want to help them when they need help or assistance, but it should not be at the expense of your life or career. The culture is not going to change if you continue to feed into it. Arrange marriage creates a lot of social issues from my view as the majority aren't mature enough to take on the responsibilities. Hense most women are victims of spousal abuse. To anyone thinking that arrange marriage is okay, your children or your children's children are going to experience some plently of hardhip because you didn't change your ways.

Girl. Having the lowest divorce rates is because people are too afraid to divorce. They will be all alone because they've disappointed both families. Aside from that, they feel like they should just put up with abuse and whatnot. Divorce is still something that is looked down upon so that's why people don't do it. Also, they believe that if they are married and have invested so many years into it already, they might as well stay with them. It´s often not a matter of love but other restrictions they are given or give themselves.

What if your partner is making things worse in your life and it is affecting your mental health? What if your partner is physically/emotionally/sexually manipulating you. @Very Good Indian parents prefer a miserable life resenting each other and won't get divorced. And they will use the lame excuse of "we do it for our children". But what actually happens is the child ends up suffering from mental trauma. Also, arranged marriages are one of the reason for not getting divorced. If the other family finds out the parents of bride or groom are separated, they wouldn't want to be in a relationship with them.

One of the things I feel was left out was the abysmal level of interaction between the two genders especially in the sub urbs and the fact that being in a relation is in general looked down on which in a way has made the 2 genders incapable of even having an unmediated relation. I guess this could be one of the primary factors why parents/relatives have to set up these meeting for in some ways Indians too shy/incapable (?) of ending up with the "right" partner and feel they have a better chance with arranged marriages

I hate arrange marriage. We evolve around a lot of years before we even get a best friend, so how can we marry a stranger who we don't know about. A marriage without love only leaves you like a corpse.

A marriage without love is unsuccessful but if two they get arranged marriage will have chance to fall in love most of our parents done same it's most successful compared to western culture. But in western culture they meet someone fall in love get married things will change after get married they diced to go for divorce, they do same with finding new one that's why they failed. arrange marriage is not bad until it's forced.

I personally am not a fan of arranged marriage, it’s so awkward and terrifying when relatives pressure you to follow through. It’s so stupid cuz the relatives don’t have to live with the man, therefore the relatives shouldn’t get to decide. I’m 15 rn, and every time I visit India, my relatives do not hesitate to bring up the topic of marriage and wanting to find a suitor for me and how I’m “ready” cuz I’m 15 and “grown”. I had a giant panic attack one time due to this. I know on paper, 15 sounds like a big number but I’m still just a little girl 😣, I’m only 15. They keep saying things like “5 more years!”. And although I know (hopefully)that they’re just joking, it still hurts to know that I’m being treated like a f-ing marriage timer or smtg like that. I may be a lazy bum (lmao😂), but I have my own set of hopes and dreams that I want to achieve. I’m so young and I have so much potential in life, I don’t want to give it all up for some mediocre man. And this may be kind of selfish but I have standards and certain things that I want in a relationship, and I don’t want to spend the rest of my life with someone who doesn’t fulfill those. I’m so sorry for this long rant 😂😂I just needed to get it off of my chest.

i am from india lives in haryana and i am very happy that this vidio is very authentic about arrange marriges well about low divorse rate in india i want to say that its not because 2 people involved in a marriage are in love with each other its just because they don't have any option especially girls living alone in india for a girl is just not easy for so many uncountable reasons (* girls are living alone but only in some developed cities only ) so girls stay in marrige because of safety reasons ( financial safety , social safety ) and you can get a better insight to it you ask it from youngesters and i agree to the guy in this vidio that arrange marriges is just **** with a stranger

I am surprised none of them mention that the arrange marriage is very common in India just because of caste system. Parents find the better half of their children in their caste just because they don't want a girl/boy from other caste for their children and parents are usually against the love marriage if their children love others caste girls or boy otherwise they are okk with love marriage in their own caste. And most of the Indian love stories never end up to marriage just because of caste. And it's still going on.

I almost wonder if 3:40 is just rumor. Ask native New Yorkers to describe people from the Midwest or Deep South and I'm sure you'd hear equally outrageous stuff. Notions of nationhood are generally weaker in rural areas, particularly in young democracies with an extensive history of state oppression--just because someone is roughly the same color and speaks roughly the same language doesn't mean that they are an authority on every aspect of their country. I'm not saying any of these perceptions are invalid or uninteresting, just calling attention to possible hearsay. I love this channel but a few urban dwellers can't possibly speak for the entire country.

Its really frowned upon. I'm educated so I'll probably will be able to support myself if I get divorced but a lot of women in India aren't educated because parents think that there is no need as they will only get married. Everything here is about marriage. You became a topper in school, oh you'll get a good husband. Its soooo irritating to hear comments like that all the time starting from childhood. I fucking hate my country sometimes. Marital rape is still legal in India, you know. And domestic violence is off the charts but women can't get out of marriage because of the social stigma. Especially if you have kids. Also its near impossible for a single women or a divorcee to find housing. They are assumed to be character less. I tell you somedays I feel as if there is a clock ticking above my head. Sorry for the rant. It just seemed like you were interested.

S. Bass in some cases it is true that there is social pressure. But not all. In fact most of the arranged around me are successful. So I guess I have seen mostly the good side? But then we do have a big family. And also in all these cases the future partners were allowed to interact for quite some time. In most cases 6 months to one year. And that I think is a big reason why the arranged marriage around me are so successful. They got to know each other. And learned to adjust with each other. Recently one of my friend got married and yes it was arranged marriage. They were engaged for almost 1 and a half years before they went ahead with it. And they are quite happy
@AS-nl9cw
6 жыл бұрын
S. Bass - you see, the parents and the relative s actually do a background check of the prospect ive bride/groom in most cases. And they mostly look for social and economic security. So basically they check if the other family have equal social stand/status as them or not. Because practically that's what matters in the harsh world. The social security net that the family and the future(in laws) family will provide to the new couple. Based on the above mentioned criteria, parents and other relatives starts introducing suitable people to their sons and daughters. And ask them to choose from them. But if you don't like any or all of them, you can just say no. But then that's where it gets tricky.😜 Because in some parts of the country, particularly in the hinterlands or others is a certain region of the country, you can't say no. And I feel that is where the problem is . Arranged marriage by it self is not a problem

There is a difference between love marriage, arranged marriage and FORCED MARRIAGE. Forced marriage is illegal in most western countries (rightly so) because it is done without the informed consent of one or both of the parties. In a nutshell arranged marriage is really no different than going on a blind date set up by your family (also with the family tagging along) deciding whether you like each other and then deciding to get married.

People tries to make arranged marriage morally wrong or unethical but there is nothing wrong with arranged marriage if it is done right. In proper arranged marriage, family picks the potential bride or groom. Then both potential bride and groom gets to know each other. Then bride and groom agrees with the marriage. Think of matrimonial websites or settling down dating websites. The only difference between matrimonial websites or settling down dating websites and arranged marriage is match making done by algorithm vs match making down by families.

i knew an indian girl from a very rich family and she came with a huge dowry - A few million dollars. She told me she knew she had to marry so she purposely chose the man who had a weak personality so that she wouldn't get any argument from him in life and he would not stand in her way. She also said that if he ever complained to her , her answer to him was that he should shut up and just go count the millions of dollars he got from marrying her. The people who engage in arranged marriage have no concept of love. Marriage is a money transaction and it is treated like a job.

In India, there is no help (very few tho). You have to fight for yourself and if you don’t, no one can save you. The problem is that women think that they are not strong, that they can’t fight back. Women have no idea what they are capable of. Unfortunately fighting back, fighting for yourself is really not an option for some women.

From my point of view arrange marriage is a choice your parents will definitely try to choose the most suitable person for you and still if you don't like it you can reject it freely. Arrange marriage is definitely not equivalent to forced marriage.
