Solon, I love the hearse theme. You should definitely do more themed shows. I liked the '64 best because you could make it whatever you wanted. I particularly enjoyed the license plate on the '29. Side note: The Jaguar appears to be the one from the movie Harold and Maude. MB.

@@Americanrodshop This one "might" be a clone, and I say that only because in the closing scenes of Harold and Maude, our young hero Harold drives this JAGEARST off the cliffs of Dover [sadly]. Perhaps they made two of these for the movie but given it's low budget I'm dubious. I'm thinking this was a later clone/tribute car? Could be wrong. Anyone know for sure? A quick Googling suggests it's a recreation. Still cool AF though!

Ty Cobb was a all-star BASEBALL player in the early decades of the 20th century, famous for being an excellent hitter, base-stealer, and a keen (some would say vicious) competitor. For instance, he would sharpen his spikes to discourage fielders from trying to tag him on stolen bases. MB.

In my opinion, the creepiest-looking hearse by far is the 1959 Buick LeSabre hearse. Saw one in a horror flick way back in the day, and it had an equally creepy-looking driver. They have a dilapidated one in front of the "Haunted House" attraction at one of our local agricultural fairs with a couple of skeletons in the front seat. 🤣

I can tell you exactly what happened to vintage hearses. I had a childhood friend who's Father owned a second tier (minority) funeral home. Top tier funeral homes bought new vehicles every two or three years, whenever there was a major styling change. The older vehicles were sold to second tier, smaller or less affluent, funeral homes. Thier vehicles went to third tier homes, in small towns or out in the country, who may not have had the resources to properly maintain them. Because of the limited market, many of them were scrapped when they were less than ten years old and in relatively good shape. Also, because of the amount of hand coach work and lack of proper sealing and rust proofing, they did not fare well in Northern States.

When I was just getting my drivers license in the late 70’s a hearse was almost my first car. There was a place close by that sold used hearses. They had dozens of them, and they were cheap. Looking back I wish that I would have bought one. 😎

Great show Solon! Didn't think I'd enjoy a show about hearses, of all things. The '48 Packard is beautiful; hearse or not. Hot on it's heels in second place would be that blue Pontiac. An "E Type" Jaguar similar to the one you showed was featured in the film "Harold and Maude", sort of a meditation on Life and Death. Also making an appearance is a beautifully creepy '59 Caddie hearse. This is a film EVERYONE would do well to see.🤓

A classic hearse would make good investments. Never desired owning one but if I did I like the '51 Pontiac hearse for 40k. If I bought it I would be tempted to hire it out to funeral homes & cemeteries & charge a fee. The funeral business never runs out of work as we all know. Just an idea.
