Great summery, fair structure to analyse the two. Thanks.

You can buy four quality LED aquarium plant lights for $189. Probably five. If your light is 20 watts, you could put 80-100 watts of quality light over your tank for the price of that 20 watt $189 light. I prefer to talk about tanks as low energy or high energy, rather than low or high tech. A lot of what makes something "high tech" is really just buying the more expensive brand, but the actual tech involved is the same.

There is no dictionary definition, so what you prefer doesn't make it necessarily correct - and the same goes for my definition. I even discussed that in this video. As far as I'm aware, high tech usually refers to CO2. You can have a high tech tank with low budget items, which I do sometimes. You can also have a low tech tank with tons of expensive equipment. You can have a high energy system using relatively budget friendly items too. There's so many ways to mix and match. The point of this video was just to talk about the pros and cons of either method, not that one is better than the other. You're absolutely correct, one could use five cheaper lights instead of one more expensive one. I've been messing around with cheap flood lights lately and they seem to do a pretty good job.

I don't use C02. I do use canister filters on 2 tanks, other 2: 1 with internal filter, 1 hang on back. 2 tanks have substrate then gravel, other 2 gravel only. It took a bit for me to figure out what plants I could grow in my setups and water. But once I did, my tanks have, are growing very healthy plants. All 4 are heavy planted with variety of plants. I do agree with your thoughts that tanks are pieces of art to certain point. I have only been doing aqua scaping with plants for about 2 years so new to this. But I love it. However, I'm in charge of keeping my fish happy and healthy. So that is the goal I always aim for.

Very good point about happy fish. I always tell my clients that's my number one goal, then aesthetics. Based on your profile pic, looks like your tanks are doing really well! Thanks for stopping by and dropping a comment @tracys.6033 !

Great summary! I tend to prefer the appearance of high tech tanks, but I don't use CO2 myself

Thanks @theTimatoHouse ! There definitely is something magical about a lush planted tank 😊

I have done both and enjoy both! CO2 is like crack for an aquarium!

Lol, that's a good one. I've always referred to it as plant roids 💉

I do agree that if plants have that infusion of co2 they can be like emersed plants, but I prefer a more natural look. I personally don't like to see the underwater meadow look

That's completely fair! When I look at pictures of the Amazon or other tropical streams, they don't look like my tanks 🤣

Which do you recommend more, liquid fertilizer or root tabs

I like to use both. If you have epiphytes, even a very small amount of liquid fertilizer can help a lot so they don't get any nutrient deficiencies. The more liquid you use, the more you commit to doing frequent water changes...

I have a Betta in a low tech tank and a larger amazonian inspired tank that is high tech with CO2 and all that jazz.

That's awesome @misterharrys - I like hearing that people embrace both ends of the planted aquarium hobby. It doesn't need to be a one or the other kinda deal. Thanks for dropping a comment!

"Every aquarium needs to be cleaned out. I'm not a believer in these ecosystem tanks where you just sit them and let them go." Then proceeds to follow up by saying he has a financial interest in the cleaning of fish tanks... Yeah, no wonder you don't believe in tanks that they won't pay you to clean😂

Of course you do have a business cleaning tank. That doesn't make any sense in terms of ecosystem like or no mainte aquariums.

Yup, some of my clients have African cichlids. I don't know how someone could do a ecosystem tank with them. Not all livestock are capable of living in unmaintained tanks.
