i work with my local Search and Rescue team, and i gotta say, i REALLY like this bag. many of my friends have asked me what a good pre-made kit would be and im going to start sending them towards looking into this. Having built multiple kits, the price is fair for what you get, by far. the only things i would change/add once i get it, would be swapping the multi tool for a leatherman, the knife for an ESEE4, the med kit for something more than an ouch pouch or booboo kit (i also have extensive medical training so i'm comfortable with a more comprehensive kit) and i would add more Chem Lights. yes there is a difference, its not the chemicals inside, but the concentration. Cyalume is your best bet for an upgrade. great work guys! i am glad to see a kit that isn't "tacticool" for the reasons discussed in the video. Cheers from Ross at Parkland SAR

Maybe you can help me, I live in area that's very rural but has a school, however all are local EMT's, fire.,nurses are all in there 60-70s. Seriously, there will be very few that can still help. To my point. Myself and a few others like 3 to be exact are now learning everything we can about EM response. However, we all seem to be overwhelmed by what's recommended to have. We would like to find a prefilled advanced EMT's survival kit( w/advanced care book to have with), also a survival kit(w/guide), and tactical pack. Basically we need kits that we can learn and work with. Any advice seeing you do S&R, your gear is probably what we're looking to acquire. Locally we wont have hospital,fire,police options we'll be on are own, for at least a while, closest hospital about 50miles away. So getting help will take awhile. Theres lots of young adults and kids. Theyll need help so we wanna be that and to be able to assist in mentoring them for self reliance. So know that I've gotten off my tangent,( apologies ), if you could possibly help point us in a direction of how and where to do this it would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Impressive kit! Recommendations based on several other survival kits and videos I’ve come across: Include: 1. Bandana (UV protected) 2. Compass and mirror 3. Water bottle should be stainless steel canteen (in case you need to heat it up). 4. Water purification tablets (in addition to the sawyer filter). The canteen should be inscribed with instructions on how to use the tablets. 5. Small kit for fishing: fishing line, hook, sinker. 6. Radio seems a little large in size. Perhaps a smaller version can be created. Regardless, this is pretty awesome!

@@UnchartedSupplyCo That just earned you a sale. Any plans to add an ACE bandage or other compression wrap to your first aid kit? Also, a broad spectrum antibiotic/pain reliever pill pack? I didn't see that in the kit. Alos, paracord for firecord would make for a top seller I expect. FYI I put a Shemagh in my kits for much the same reason you have that pom pom on your hat. I would ditch the beanie for a shemagh though. It's easier to cut into strips and still have a head wrap, the aforementioned kindling is there in the tassles, and you have water filtration. I consider the shemagh an upgrade over a bandana and everyone knows there are 101 uses for those. I'm also not a fan of plastic water bottles. For the same room I've been packing in a 38 oz. Nalgene Stainless water bottle and nesting it in a Stanley camp 24 oz. cook set. Throw out the cups and you have two ways to boil water and heat up meals in the field. Just pop the handle off, nest the lid below your containers and the handle under it. Fits snug, not much rattle. Last: I've gone back to the lifestraws currently and will upgrade again soon to another filter I saw on AMazon. The Sawyer mini and first gen lifestraws are Stage 1 water filters. They only catch biological threats. Stage 2 (bio and chemical) are making their way onto the public and Stage 3 (bio, chem and heavy metal) are on their way. Keep an eye out for them. make it a selling point. Your customers will respect you for it. If you ever read it I hope you consider this feedback constructive. My family isn't into prepping but they will accept my occasional "gifts" and this looks like a solid addition as a car kit for Mandie.

What a fantastic design! The accessibility and ease of use are superior to anything else I've seen on the market, and it really would get you through a SHTF situation for 4-5 days pretty easily (and gives you most of what you need for longer). The biggest thing missing in my opinion is a vessel to heat water in. A simple aluminum cup with a small handle would do. I would definitely add a few other things that are simple but highly effective, especially in the First Aid section. My suggestions: First Aid: A few pairs of disposable Nitrile gloves. Super cheap and a potential lifesaver if you're helping someone and don't know what they might have. Some Ace-wrap bandage. A clot-control bandage and quick-apply tourniquet. A few packets of burn gel. And most importantly some anti-nausea pills. Tools: A signaling mirror. They cost nothing and are EXTREMELY effective if you want to be found. A small chain-type saw. A P-38 style can opener (so cheap, so simple, so versatile). Food/water: Some isotonic or hypotonic beverage base powder. Aids in hydration and makes drinking enough water more pleasant. Some instant coffee and sugar packets for a quick pick-up. General: INSECT REPELLENT. Seriously, EVERY BOB should have insect repellent in it. If you're going to be possibly sleeping outside in anything other than cold weather you NEED IT. Also a simple poncho . . . while the mylar blanket can be used as one they're so cheap and tiny that its worth having.

Overall I like the pack kit. The pack itself I really like the look of, however, the knife you should exchange with something like a Mora; it's cheap so as to keep your cost down and has an excellent reputation. The multi-tool is a bit under par and the first aid kit is a Walmart style disappointment. Everything else seems quite smart tho. I'd be interested in buying one of these in a few months for sure!
@UnchartedSupplyCo
6 жыл бұрын
Hi Will, We tested the Mora extensively. It's a great knife but in the end, we didn't like the slick grip (especially when wet and cold), no perforated side of the blade for sawing, and the blade itself had a tendency to bend or even break when using it for blunt force type applications. It's a great knife as just a knife, but our thought was that these tools in this kit would be used pretty crudely at times, and we wanted something with a bit more strength to it. The multi-tool is small but very strong - that said, we're upgrading it for the next version and we know you'll be impressed. And we are working with some big names to currently reinvent the first aid kit in a big way. We do believe the included first aid kit in this version of the Seventy2 is adequate, we are improving it as well.

Not going to lie, I always recommend building your own kit (just to be familiar with all the items) but this isn't a bad kit at all. Couple tweaks could be made, but it would also just increase the price more as the changes would be quality of items. I'm not taking the time to break down the cost, but a lot of it is the pack, and is completely understandable. That backpack (with the organization options) is badass! The products in this kit have been vetted, tested, and approved by a highly accredited team, and while they may seem inexpensive, they do work. and work well. I feel like you really skimped on the knife and the first aid kit. I understand that most people dont know how to sharpen knives but removing most of the normal edge (from an already tiny knife) and replacing it with a serrated edge seems like a bad idea since sharpening serrations is more difficult and the regular edge is more useful. Also that paracord handle has got to be pretty uncomfortable and encouraging people to make the knife more difficult to use by removing its handle (paracord) would be a bad idea in most cases. As for the first aid kit, there are a lot of things you could potentially add. Even just some antibiotic ointment seems prudent and cost effective. Same with those little stitch-like bandages that hold wounds closed. I did really like your reasoning for a lot of the things you did include though. A wool hat would probably be a lot better for warmth - granted expensive. And hopefully you include instructions on tieing some basic/essential knots for survival. The plastic sheet with holes was really smart and multipurpose. Anyway, cool bag. Thanks for your work in this field.

Im not super big into survival kits or things like it, but one thing that i wish i saw was a few fuel tabs or some fuel gel. A lot people have trouble getting fires started, especially when the tinder and wood isn't completely dry. A of couple fuel tabs, or a tube of gel (think of the ones that some MREs have) takes up a very small amount of space, while providing help to a lot of people. Other than that, a small mirror in a plastic shell with a clip to put onto your clothing/pack so you can rip it off in a hurry and try to flash at someone for help might be a nice edition.

I do like the idea of this kit, it is great for those who want a 1 Shot buy.. BUT I see you upgraded some things, I would change that Knife to a Strait easy to Sharpen Edge and add a Small Sharpening stone, Dull Knife is No Good, Next the Canteen, Plastic Bottle is Ok, but a Stainless Steel you could Boil Water in or Cook, I Like the filtration Mask, but you said at start about not Stand out in a crowd then have a Bright red Mask, Make it Black, and the inner pack has list of whats in it where all can see if wear it outside, Put the lettering on the side your back is and Plain on the outside, as for Goggles, well I'm in USA not a lot Sand Storms, the Shovel needs Side Edge Sharp to use as a Chopping tool as well, you will need Firewood for those matches, the kit will help most in 72 Hr emergency, But lacks if your out much more than that, Also Im surprised it doesn't have a Compass and say to add a MAP of your area, and Mark your Maps with Police, Hospital and Water Locations !!! you would be surprised if you step off the road how easy some can get lost, I would also tell People to set First aid to what they need for the area, maybe add a Blood Clot pad to it, someone stabs you for your Food and a Bandage want help. Another thought, you added Sun Screen, good, Maybe a Small Bug Repellent spray also, hard to get a good Night sleep being eat up. Make sure you keep ID, Home Deeds, Insurance papers, and Other important copies in this in Water tight Ziplock, if your House is Underwater, Destroyed or what not, so can the Local Records building and its paper or Electronic Systems that stores this info if you can Return. GL Stay Safe all, may you never need to use it, but if you do Have it !!!

Agree completely, needs some chlorine drops or iodine pills for water, the Sawyer mini is ok if your water source is clear but if not then they tend to clog easily. That knife has got to go, a better option would be a Mora, lightweight and they work. A small fishing kit would be nice. Really don't understand why it does not have a compass! Poncho would be helpful, does no good why you're soaked to the bone and freezing plus it could be used for other things. That first aid kit is junk, needs duct tape, 4x4 bandages, quick clot, butterfly bandages and Tylenol, ibuprofen is good for inflammation but not that good with pain. If they are going to have goggles then they need to add a tinted insert. I do like the plastic inserts for the pack. And speaking of backpack, not long enough to be able to properly use the hip belt for weight carrying, also needs it's own rigid support and the straps have very little padding and it's not that adjustable. Most likely the people who would but this pack would be those with no wilderness skills, so it needs some information as to how to keep your ass alive, I recommend camping and wilderness survival by Paul Tarwell, easy to understand and full of pictures that even a child could understand, each of kids has a copy. For the price it should have a great flashlight, Stream light would be a good option. How about some caffeine pills or a couple multivitamins? Do agree that that water bottle sucks, a titanium bottle and cup is what I would add. Needs chapstick, protects lips plus can have other uses. I would add some pepper spray, would rather see it with a place for a gun but pepper spray would do, that whole crowd thing. And speaking of crowds, way too visible, a better option would be some reflective strips that could be added to the outside for when you want to be seen, sometimes not being seen is better. The backpack would stick out like a sore thumb, something like looks like a book bag would be better and give it a used look so you could blend in, that one screams look at me because it is not a common appearance, the grey is ok for a color but not common, forest green or a brown would blend in better. Ok done with my rant. I considered selling kits, but when i did the cost calculations I found that it could be difficult to build and sell them at a low price.

A lot of thought and work gone into that. I think I'd ditch most of it and carry a basic backpack with a sleeping bag, mat, tent, 2x5litre water bags and filter, full first aid kit, basic wash kit, spare socks, toilet roll and 10 of those food blocks. 2400 calories is what you use up in a day of 'moderate activity'. That's 2/3 pound of body fat.
@mobius999

Have you ever held one of those emergency ration blocks in your hands? Trust me, you wouldn't want 10, even if you could fit them in the bag. They are HEAVY. I carry a 3600 calorie pack in each bag (along with other food) and they weigh 4.6lbs each. So the 2400 weighs in at 3lbs. The whole bag weights 11lbs packed. It's not made to carry 30lbs of anything, let alone rations, on top of all the other stuff. You'd want a much bigger lumbar belt.

My brother, sister, uncle, and myself are preppers and this is the perfect bugout bag other than all the high vis items. I have traded out much of the high visibility items for less visible ones. My family would love it a lot more if it was offered in a camo pattern, then it will be and instant sell from the rest of my family.

my wife and I love what you're doing here, but you should really sell 2 versions of this kit... one for the safety/rescue (as shown), and a "black-out" version for the E&E and prepper community. (no bright colors, OD greens or multicam), you should also include a zippered flap on the outside of the waterproof bag that has a small roll out soft solar panel with integrated AAA, AA or C123 battery charging, for lights , (flash, head or weapons), and NV's, that way it can charge while your walking.

I like how different this kit is from the typical premade, 72 bags, I have a few criticisms like that the flashlight isn’t waterproof at all, I’ve destroyed countless numbers of those to rainy conditions and I think a headlamp would be better suited. But I can see the price range and power for that choice. Overall it’s a great bag and I think there’s a certainly a lot of thinking and strategy that goes into this kit
@UnchartedSupplyCo

appreciate the kind words. Just so you know, we put multiple different units of that specific flashlight in cups of water for days, and they worked just fine. I'm sure at a deeper level they would start to leak, but I'm happy to put our name behind these things working through the hardest of downpours! We did consider headlamps as well, but for brightness, hours of use, and simplicity for most people, the flashlight edged the headlamp out for now. Ps. we also designed the bag with the straps on the side to hold the flashlight, essentially giving you the same handsfree operation as if you had a headlamp.

My only hesitation on the kit is the fact that a lot of these products are made by you guys not saying that makes them bad you did say you guys did a lot of research but the best knife will be made by a knife maker, the best flashlight will be made by a flashlight company, the best wet wipes will be made by a wet wipe company, but when one company makes 50 different products you’ve gotta question how good those products are individually the knife is very small for a survival tool the flashlight looks a little cheap like something a company would give away at a corporate event. That being said the guy in the video seems very educated on the products and he does seem genuine in his claims that it’s a good pack

This looks to be a very nice kit although I would replace the multi tool with a gerber and a swiss knife, I would also add an icom handheld transceiver. Something else that would be useful is a signaling mirror and a magnifying glass, and if possible a multi hammer tool and a few nails. I would also add a couple MRE’s along with those cookies, and if you wanted to go extreme nuclear apocalypse with this you could add some dosimeters into the mix.
