With the macbook pro m3 pro out, do you still think the m2 studio is worth it for buidling a flight sim?

@@jeremiahaquitania973 yea I’m sure the m2 studio will still be fine. If the m3 is out it’ll just be a little better, though.

I currently run xplane 11 and 12 on Intel based pc but time to upgrade to higher end system. I’m considering the Apple Mac Studio M2 Ultra with 24 core cpu, 60 core gpu, 64 gb ram, 2 tb ssd. However, I have not found anyone on KZitem actually running xplane with that Mac setup. You seem to prefer pc. After pricing out a pc system the total costs are very similar. Your thoughts?

@@larrytalley117 I’m a Mac guy through and through but when it comes to flight simming, building an upgradable PC will bring you many less headaches. More compatibility with software and devices mostly. The Mac Studio could be good for you IF you r using xplane and Mac compatible software and devices. Just make sure to research everything in advance so you don’t get a surprise down the road. Let me know how it turns out.

@@flightsimguides thanks for the reply. I’m a simple simmer. I only use the honeycomb alpha yoke and the bravo throttle quadrant. I’m an older guy and don’t have any interest in building a complete sim panel so I’m not worried about compatibility issues. I built my last pc system in 2017 around the Intel i7 7700k on a rog motherboard and a GeForce 1080 founders edition gpu, and Corsair liquid cooler. So obviously it’s time to upgrade. One mistake I made on my build was to use a 512 mb m2 ssd for the boot drive and then used a 1 tb hhd for my application drive. So I think having the sim on a separate hhd is potentially fps throttling as opposed to having all on a 2 tb m2 drive. I admit I did purchase Microsoft fs2020 and have used it on occasion and certainly going with Apple silicon in the studio would prevent using windows based apps. My son has a studio and runs some higher end windows server software in virtual machines and he admits the performance is not very good. I have priced out a pc with the i9 14900k, geforce 4090ti and 2tb Samsung m2, 64 mb ddr5 ram, compatible mb, and all the other stuff at about &4000. I agree that provides more flexibility. A 4k or better 27 inch monitor and decent sound system runs the price up a bit more. My real fear is creating a data bottleneck between the cpu and the gpu so your expert opinion on my selections as well as a good suggestion for a motherboard. I was thinking about the asus rog strix z790.

@@larrytalley117 That's a pretty nice system (and a good price for it) that you've priced out for an i9 / 4090ti system. Setting it up with the Z790 should surely work fine. As far as being the "expert", I'd say i'm familiar with nice things, lol, but couldn't tell you if there would be a data bottleneck. Definitely hit up your local PC shop, those kids running those places are pretty smart and would be able to answer that question at a much higher level of intelligence. Me, I look for compatibility of nice parts and ask the PC shop to sell it to me and build it. And they better tell me if something won't work, they see that kind of stuff all the time. One thing I see with your setup, you might need a 900 watt power supply. I think I'm running an 850 and sometimes wonder if it's enough for my setup which is i9 / 3080 with z590. Again, check with those computer specialsts, or maybe check on one of my videos on this channel where I interviewed my brother about building a PC for gaming and flight simming. You should find some good info in there as well. Good luck!

@@flightsimguides actually i speced a 1200 psu. I’m choosing the rtx 4090 founders edition gpu. The price for all parts including the case you used in your build part 4 is 4300. Now I gotta find a good 4k monitor.

TBH, the M2 Pro mini is in a tough spot. Once you upgrade the GPU and memory, you're better off with a base Studio, which comes with a better CPU, GPU, and even 10Gb ethernet, all for less money!

Anyone with more money can buy the more expensive MAC for flight simulator -Way too many videos on that! The real questions is how can you get a less expensive MAC to run you flight sim for less.

@@atech3117 less expensive Mac has lower quality graphics processor and less powerful cpu processor. With a Mac you simply get what you pay for.
