A playthrough of GameTek's license-based 1992 game show game for the NES, Wheel of Fortune Featuring Vanna White.
Wheel of Fortune Featuring Vanna White is the fourth and final NES cart based on the TV game show, and if you're familiar with the original game, Family Edition, or Junior Editon, you'll immediately note a few big differences. That's because this one wasn't developed by Rare like the first three, but by Imagitec.
The basic game is the same - it's still Wheel of Fortune - but the presentation has been revamped. Like the NES version of Super Jeopardy!, all of the characters have a much goofier style. They remind me of the cheesy animation you'd sometimes see in commercials in the early nineties. It's beyond ugly, but the outdated hairstyles and the facial expressions make it funny to watch. Was it really necessary for the women to all stand with their boobs just chillin on the counter, though? That always struck me as weird, even as a kid.
The puzzles are generally fine, too, but I didn't like them as much as the ones in the older Wheel of Fortune games. Some of the more "academically-minded" puzzles feel weirdly out of place, since, let's be honest, Wheel of Fortune isn't the most intellectually-minded of games.
Overall, though, it's a perfectly fine recreation of Wheel of Fortune on the NES. It wouldn't be my pick among the four, but hey, it is the only one starts off a hyper-posterized glamor shot of Vanna. Those shoulder pads count for something, right?
