People do forget that the orginal premise with WD is that the work that could be done by a confident DIYer was not costed because that was the stuff you could do on the driveway with a decent set of tools, so zero costs apart from your own time, so things like as balljoint change, wing replacement, service work, body prep for paint, brake replacement, even clutch change would fall into that category. The things you can't do (unless you are a specialist) like gearbox rebuilds, painting, windscreen replacement and electronic repairs were farmed out to specialists (gave brewer some input on the build stage) and given costs. The new episodes are detached from reality though now as Elvis 'borrows' a friends machine shop to re-bore a 911 engine or a rolling road to map a vehicle are next to zero cost where those things would have substantial value attached to them today, it's good to see the process but realistically they are job that would be farmed out by the DIYer.

A guy I worked with had his tvr done at a place in yorkshire and said that they had been asked to provide a free chassis for the tvr they were doing on wd in return for being featured. They refused but they still bought it but featured it being powder coated instead.

I have information on the morgan that appeared on wheeler dealers for when you eventually get to it (its pretty far on) a friend of mine owns it (from Northern Ireland ) and i see it regularly. It is in great condition and it just needs an exhaust manifold now which seems pretty tricky to find at a decent price. I can send through photos if you like

Great to see your subscribers numbers going up with each video. Your efforts are being rewarded and, out of small acorns... 👍 As much as folks can - quite rightly - criticise WD, I believe that the programme got a lot people more interested in cars and in getting their own hands dirty, whether it be servicing or repairing/upgrading, which as a petrol head I think is fantastic.

Agreed. Looking at it as what it is vs. what one would hope it to be is key. It's a "guide" so to speak, a demonstration.

Always tickled me when they said cost to restore was £X because labour was never ever factored in to any of the cars
@oscarsgarage447

To be fair on later cars they did put up how many hours labour, but think the the early concept was based on if you were to do the work yourself.

@@oscarsgarage447 i understand but you should always factor in your self worth even if they said as we did it all ourselves we saved £X , ooo of pounds in labour cost as we all know this is normally the biggest cost I worked in the motor industry for 20 years mikes profit margins were laughable I can guarantee he would not have ran his own business with those margins

Well I’ll tell you this for a fact C515 TDG must still be breathing because when I checked this up a few years ago being nosy as you do it said it was untaxed since some time in 2007 now it is sorned someone must have it and if you sorned before 2012 you had to do it every 12 months so someone obviously still has it somewhere
