Went up to the east central part of Ohio this past Friday to the Doughty Valley Steam Show at Millersburg, Ohio with a couple of friends of mine. As is tradition when up around northern Ohio. We had to check out the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad and see what was running. Ran up to Akron to see if anything was running only to find out that 291 going to be late leaving Brittain Yard. Made the decision to go back west just to see if we could intercept anything coming out of Brewster. Needless to say that a decision was made when we got a heads up that a westbound was passing through Lodi, Ohio.
Managed to get to Spencer, Ohio and the former Akron, Canton, & Youngstown diamond just as mixed freight train 221 was finishing up their drop off at the small yard. With Wheeling & Lake Erie 7008 leading the way. Train 221 takes off west as they charge over the Spencer diamond with a quartet of standard cab ElectroMotive SD40-2 and SD40T-2s with one of them being the former Denver Rio Grande & Western 5391. Tried to make it to Wellington to catch them going by the fairgrounds but we settled on our last shot being at Brighton, Ohio as 221 prepared to make a setoff at the west end of the siding. The two tunnel motors and the loads of coke up front were setoff and would eventually wind up going up to Cleveland later that day.
