I am an English man and I am disgusted at the way the Polish were treated after the war, I am also disgusted that more, much more was not done to help them during the atrocities in the Warsaw ghetto. I am grateful for the fact that twice the Polish saved us from slavery, once from the Nazis and once at the gates of Vienna. For these reasons whenever I meet a polish man I shake his hand in gratitude for the selfless bravery of his forbears.

You might have noticed that the emblem of the 303 Squadron looks kinda American. That's because it was named the Kościuszko Squadron, after Tadeusz Kościuszko - one of the greatest Polish national heroes (also considered their hero by many Belarusians and Lithuanians). Among other things, Kościuszko fought as a volunteer in the American War of Independence, and the original unit of Polish Air Force named after him was formed during the Polish-Soviet War (1919-1921) by American volunteer pilots.

I remember when I flew with the 8th air force over Germany during the summer of 1945, I was a rear ball turret gunner of a P-51 mustang when we were attacked by ten Me 163 rocket planes over Berlin, we were able to successfully drop all of our bombs over hitlers bunker, but were overwhelmed, even though I shot down four of the bogeys at my 12 oclock, we were badly hit, so I had to bail out, as I parachuted down one of the ME-163's turned towards me to attempt to strafe at my chute, however I was faster at the draw and drew my smith and wesson and shot the pilot between the eyes before he could kill me, I was lucky to be able to control my landing and splashed down in the Baltic Sea where a US submarine was in patrol and picked me up, where I was then awarded the Medal of Honor first class for my heroic deeds 👊

The author of the film did not do his homework :) A feature that distinguished them from other Allied pilots - the Polish fighter pilot shot a short, max. a few seconds in a series from a distance of 80-100! It was decisive for the effectiveness. What the Americans could not teach, Francis Gabreski taught Polish Squadron 315. Pleas read Arkady Fiedler's 303 Squadron, or read memorys of Stanislaw Skalski Only the truth is interesting.

The RAF depended so heavily on the exiled pilots from Poland, Czechoslovakia, Belgium, The Netherlands, France, (and a few more countries as well), but none got the abuse than that of the Poles. Treated often as though they chose to give up Poland to the Nazis, when it was Britain and France that gave it away to the Germans and Soviets. Never Forget.

Yes, they were brave but they weren't fighting recklessly. They had totally different tactics than RAF and Luftwaffe. In september 1939 Poland had worst airplanes, they were much slower. Flying Hurricanes polish pilots had an opportunity to fly faster fighters. Technically, they took the advantage of that. The most famous Squadrons of polish pilots were: 302 and 303.

A very shortened WWII Polish history lesson: (1) With their minds: Polish mathematical geniuses constructed the 1st enigma machine prototype and blueprint to breaking Germanys enigma code. (2) In The Air: Escaped Polish fighter pilots formed the 3 most effective fighter squadrons during the battle of Briton. The 3 top Polish squadrons were credited with both the highest number of confirmed kills, and kills per lost pilot. Including the legendary 303 Polish RAF squadron depicted so well in this video, the most decorated allies fighter squadron of WWII. (3) On the Ground: In Italy Polish soldiers lead four separate assaults before defeating the Germans in the battle of Monte Cassino. One of the wars most heavily fortified and fiercely defended strategic German strongholds, and one of the costliest resulting in over 55,000 allied casualties. Note: The Polish Army and Polish Air Force under British Command, fought in every WW2 major battle, including the Battle of Britain, Market Garden, Monte Cassino, El Alamein, and D-Day. (4) The saddest of endings: Despite the promises by both Churchill and Roosevelt, both met in secrete with Stalin and agreed let Stalin/USSR keep and occupy Poland. This decision led to decades of abuse and suffering of the whole Polish population up and until the fall of the Berlin wall. As a final insult, on Stalin's request to Churchill the WWII Polish surviving soldiers, pilots, and generals were denied participation in Great Briton's Victory Parade. Honorable mention: In 1940 JOZEF STANISLAW KOSACKI invented the Polish Mine Detector that saved countless Allied lives during the war. I'm getting pretty old now, but my grandparents barely escaped from Poland. Much of my knowledge was passed on to me though my grandfather and father, as nearly all family history and documents were destroyed in the war and later Russian occupation. Of course, this is a surface scratch level history above, but gives some incite and starting points for those who enjoy history research...

Wrong- Poland was billed for the armaments sold to it prior to its defeat. No charge was made for any Polish pilot fighting in the RAF. @dcmchugh99
Жыл бұрын
To clarify first actual kill while a none operational Squadron was a BF110 (This was claimed as a Dornier DO17 in the pilot's combat report) first operational kill was a BF109. Good call with Frantisek he certainly deserves a mention although the Poles let him do his own thing as he was a bit of a lone wolf and a very successful one in terms of his victory tally. Dowding's " There is good shooting.....within sight of London " was aimed at Frantisek and some other Battle of Britain pilots as he often followed German aircraft over the Channel either towards or to France. Sadly that cost him his life.....nor was he the only Battle of Britain pilot to die that way.

Seeing Yarmhubs animations from the start of their channel to now is amazing its nice to see a channel that doesn't just keep doing their craft but actually work to improve it going above and beyond just like the events in their videos

Near the end of the war my dad was in the rear turret of a 61 Squadron Lancaster. It was the only op my dad mentioned and he said they were attacked by ME262's. A Lancaster from his Squadron was shot down and one from 50 Squadron too. But escorting Mustangs shot down four of the jets. It wasn't till only a few years ago and many years after my dad passed away that I found out the Mustangs were from 309 and 315 Polish Squadrons. Knocking down 4 of those jets is good going and has been forgotten by history. On that same op 617 Squadron dropped 2 22,000lb earthquake bombs as well tallboys. My dad never mentioned that either

Love the number 303. Significant both because of the number of this squadron and the .303 Lee-Enfield round. Also love it when there are a group of folks who, even to other allies are considered "foreign" and folks may be hesitant to accept them. But then the succeed in spite of any doubts. Reminds me a bit of the mostly-Japanese-American 442nd Regimental Combat Team who ended up being the most decorated US Army unit of the war.

The Battle of Britain is one of my favorite topics of WW2 that I have researched. Also great touch with adding the music from the final battle of the movie Battle of Britain, and War Thunder's Soviet Union Victory Theme.
