This is the best commentary I've heard. It was quick but comprehensible. Most commentaries leave you lost or with a headache. This guy is GOOD.

I like how they slow down the play as needed to explain a move briefly before continuing. I think that helps.

there was never a doubt about the outcome. magnus was toying with her. he is more than 800 points higher than her. she had no chance. when magnus says nice things it means it is over. in the game she says that move is not a good one about her own move, and magnus says all the other moves are not good either.

@@louiscyfer6944 That doesn't mean her game was weak. She did have game. Magnus is like Ali or Tyson in their prime. You can lose handily to one of those two men and still be an elite boxer. You don't suck, they were just that good. Magnus is just that good.

@@Elthenar 800 plus elo rating difference is a high school boxer going against tyson. no chance. anna is a good player, but not elite. far from it. her mom is excellent, still not elite. she has game, certainly beats me. magnus knew who she was when she sat down. i don't remember saying anywhere her game was weak.

@@louiscyfer6944 I'll admit, I am not expert on the relative difference in elo amount a that high a level. The only point I was making is that she was no rando wandering the park. She is a well versed and skill player. She wasn't going to win but he presented a competent game. Anna would certainly beat the tar out of me and everyone I know. I wouldn't even sit down with Magnus any more than I'd try to play Lebron one on one. It would be sad for all involved, although he least there is little danger of Magnus putting me in the hospital.

I've thought for a couple years now that with just a couple more dynamic personalities chess could go full on WWE style with color and play-by-play commentators. It's a great game and, contrary to all the memes, can be a great watch on TV. It's ripe for a real modern explosion like poker got in the early 2000's.

One thing in common that these super GMs have is a very strong memory. These guys can remember the positions and how they are to be tackled. So they basically know a lot of positions from start to finish. They are like computers with stored memories of games.

@@PeterSedesse that's... Not even close to how that works xD the squares are labelled, and the squares are labelled the same for every game and for both players on every board from every angle. A1 is in the bottom left for white, and h8 is the bottom left for black. Lol.

I’ve seen this exact game on another channel, but it was more instructional watching it here because you commentator breaks the game down so that everyone can understand it (even if his tone is a bit more dramatic than it needs to be).

I have had a passing familiarity with chess from a young age, it's never been a pursuit of mine, I find it too complicated and cannot drive myself to dedicate the kind of time it would take for me to become competent at it, as such many game commentaries are filled with terminology that goes way over my head. Yours do not. Clear, concise and entertaining, I can absolutely see myself enjoying your breakdowns for quite a while yet.

4:32 Can someone explain why not: black Ne2+ ( K and R fork)... white Rxe2, black Rxc1+ and then on black's next move Rc2 anyway !? 😯 After that, it would be difficult for Carlsen to make his Rd2 and control his pawn later. At the same time, the black rook would control the 3(c) open column and the game could continue possibly differently. I'm not a great chess player, just asking.

4:26 why not Nd2+, then Rexf1 +, Nexc4. She'd have gotten a rook and bishop for giving up a knight. Even if the King goes c1 and captures the knight f1 rook can check and trade rooks and she's still rook knight to his double bishops.

Anyway... to get to a 1500 rating you just have to be carefull, you don't need strategy, tactics, openings, endgames to beat players < 1500... they just HANG PIECES, so all you have to do is TAKE :))

Watching the game I realised that they're better chess players than me. I paused a moment to consider that prospect while simultaneously taking a sip of my tea I had prepared earlier. It was hot, so hot in fact that I couldn't down it quickly enough leaving me somewhat thirsty. It was a predicament. Nevertheless I continued to watch the match albeit somewhat thirsty as I couldn't drink my tea. It didn't detract from the enjoyment of the match as it was irrelevant. I made the intention that after I finished watching the video I will continue to drink my tea. And that's what I did.

Narrator saying Magnus "manages to find (bishop move)" is kind of amusing. Even in a casual game like this, Magnus was probably planning that 4-5 moves ahead. In tournament play with no time restraints, GMs can think 20-30 moves ahead.
