That was an awesome video. Loved learning more. I have a great grandfather, and great great grandfather that are serious mysteries, partly due to record losses. Thanks

Both my mom and I can’t seam to verify my great grandfathers mother. Due to a fire having destroyed a census for 1890 Lancaster PA, we can’t find out anything. I suspect that he was orphaned, mistreated by his caregivers. He doesn’t show again until about 1900. There are several trees on ancestry that have his mother listed as Ann, but this Ann was only 10 at the time of his birth. His death certificate lists his parents as unknown. If for no other reason, I wish to solve this mystery for my mom while she is still with us. Sometimes in my searches, the oddest things will come up, some are of help, some not so. Thanks for your reply

Try searching newspapers for an obituary or other mentions of her name. Search on both her married name and maiden name. Newspapers.com is a great site and they have a free trial period with full search capabilities. You will have to give a credit card number to start. But if you cancel before the end of the free trial period, it will have cost you nothing. They have lots of newspapers, so give it a try!

Just a quick follow-up... if you don't know (or suspect) a name for your great-grandfather's mother, do the newspaper search on your great-grandfather's name. Happy hunting!
