Mens et Ens I’m Atheist because I spent a lifetime as a Christian with my father as a pastor. I have been to churches all over the country, and watched my abusive father preach to thousands about how to be a good father. He acted like my worth was defined by my faith. I would get yelled out for not smiling enough, not praying enough, not joining certain things, and then I dealt with elders on my dads board stalking my social medias for years and tattled if it didn’t look Christian enough. I saw so many lies and so many fake people, a ton of hypocrites and people giving more threats than any of the religions they openly would criticize to a violent degree. I saw way more evil in that life. Plus, a lot of really bad shit in the Bible that I refuse to stand behind. Just way more cons than pros, and I just lost faith that a god even exists. It took decades but that was the result.

When a Christian is losing an arguement, "Pascals Wager" is the last line of defense! Then come the threats of eternal damnation. If an all loving God would damn someone's soul to eternal torture for simply not believing, because of lack of evidence of his existence, then this god is a monster. Faith, by it's very definition is irrational, as you are expected to cast aside all logic and reason in favor of feelings, unmerited trust in a book full of myths and legends and con-artists who prosper financially from having you believe this book is true. As for me, I will accept peer-reviewed science over superstition and goofy myths, science has proven to be far more reliable!
@weakonewithouthim3441
6 жыл бұрын
Science has not proven to be far more reliable. Scientific proof is only as good as the information available, through observation, measurement, and repetition at the time proofs of theories are given. As new information comes to light "scientific fact" changes to accommodate. That is not to say that "science" as a whole has not given us valuable insight and information in regards to the reality in which we exist at this point in time. Science can not prove George Washington was the first President of the United States. Evidentiary methods must be used. The issue we as Christians face is that most of our evidence of the existence of God leans more towards individual proofs that are not repeatable or measurable or observable and would be impossible to prove happened unless you were there at that specific time, and that also, could result in a difference of opinion, of those there, as to the cause of said situation or happening. I think Matt Dillahunty best summed up your opinion, as stated in your comment, as to evidence for God's existence. Paraphrasing, he (Matt) has seen no evidence to rationally believe in God. He is not saying whether a God exists or doesn't exist or whether evidence will or will not eventually be provided, he is just saying that he can not believe in the existence of the God of the Bible or any other god, at this time, with the evidence he has. And, even if evidence was provided for the God of the Bible, he still would not worship that entity as God because he does not believe that entity to be morally superior to himself. All of that to say his evidence, and yours, for unbelief is based on individual proof and pre-supposition. The same thing said of Christians, but in a mocking or scoffing way.
@emiel1976ep

Weakone Withouthim science is not needed to not believe that there is a god. Even as everything we know now is proven wrong, than still there is no proof for a God. Also as things are proven wrong, than that is don by science and not by religion. Things that are learned ad school like evolution are proven facts. That we don't know all of it, foes not proof that it is wrong or did not happen.

It makes it seem you don't know anything, since "everything" you "know now is proven wrong". The issue I see is that you are asking for proof so you will know there is a God, then you will believe. To believe something and to know something are two different concepts. Who can say whether proof has already been given to you and you let someone else tell you it was something else? Or maybe it has not?

This is refutation? Learn about ancient languages and expressions, ok? _The idea that a nobody peasant like Jesus was prosecuted by one of the highest ranking judges in the land is ludicrous_ No, the highest court in the land in a famously fractious province (as Antiochus Epiphanes could attest and as the Romans knew at this time and found out later in AD 69) brought him before the governor who had little or no choice but to attend to the case. _And if he had been prosecuted in the manner depicted in the Bible someone would have certainly taken note of the trial_ The Argument From Silence fallacy. Not an argument. _Like Spartacus 100 years before who was killed on the spot when he was found_ Oh, come, this is widely known and easily checked. We do not know that. We don't even know where his last battle was fought, though it was probably somewhere in the Silarus Valley. The stories of his death differ, but he appears to have died in the battle. He wasn't 'found.' He attacked and was likely surrounded and killed, for he would not give up. Your comparison is wrong. _If by any chance a convicted prisoner who had disrupted the Romans as much as the Bible says Jesus did_ And where does the Bible say this? I have never read it. There's a difference between the Word of God and the Word of God Written. At one long-ago time in the rural Middle East, writing would not have been widespread, but that Abraham could write would be plausible, him coming from a Mesopotamian city and all, but papyrus would have been fragile, parchment expensive, clay fragile and heavy. So, writing? That depends. By the time the Bible was written, of course, conditions would have changed. So when do you mean?

What Christians and Catholics don't understand (thanks to their brainwashing) is that anybody can write a compelling storybook and claim that it is the Absolute Word of a metaphysical deity. This is probably what happened back when the concept of religion was first made up by the Babylonians: the promise of eternal bliss following death as long as they did what the "God(s)" (a.k.a. the people who came up with the religion) said. What better way to control the masses through blind faith and refusal to accept contradictory evidence? I think religion was created for the purpose of seizing power over people who don't know any better.

It’s good to know that all the hungry have been fed, the homeless have been given shelter, the poor have been given the things they need to survive, and everybody has their basic needs met so much that christians have and excess of cash and now pay to produce videos and pay to air those produced videos before Atheist Experience video clips. I also know that if the shoe were on the other foot and atheists were making ads and paying KZitem to air them before christian content, that their response would be calm and metered, and absolutely NONE of them would be angered to the point of: writing angry letters, boycotting, protesting, making angry videos accusing KZitem and other companies of being part of some multinational satanic conspiracy, crying during said video, or having general breakdowns or temper tantrums.

_Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful_ 1. This avoids the question of its truth. How something is 'regarded' is quite separate from its nature. 2. This does not define 'religion' (which was a very different concept in the classical world). There was no ancient concept of 'religion' as a separate part of one's life as we have today. 'Religio' in Latin fundamentally means, 'conscientiousness,' 'sense of right,' or 'moral duty.' 3. Seneca apparently did not say it. There is no source for this quote, and I have not been able to find it either in Seneca's works or Lucretius's (another person to whom this quote is attributed). It’s just annoying that Christians believe that they are the only religion that’s right and spite the other religions. They call everyone that doesn’t follow them Devil-worshipers and pull out threats that if you don’t worship “god” you will end up in hell even if you are a good person, (so is Gandhi in hell then). Isn’t it in their bible that says accept other people’s beliefs, not deny it and jam it in their throats; and to love thy neighbor, not threaten them with afterlife threats? With little to no evidence of a heaven or hell or a god the Bible could’ve been just a story when it is first written. Watching children learn Christianity at some of retreats and camps it looks like brain washing in some cases. I am a Death worshiper I believe there is a afterlife I have faith in death itself, I respect other people’s beliefs because they are their own person and have the right to do so. I don’t argue or threaten people that don’t follow death, I respect their beliefs. Christians and even my own mother acts like I worship Satan; they want me to be someone I am not. They want people to think the same as they do and pelt them with fear of eternal torture to get others to follow them (it’s more like a religious empire the more you think about it), it’s no wonder why they get a bad rep from all the other religions. It’s sad that I don’t find many that are actually okay with what others think.

Not a single contemporary of Jesus wrote about him while JC was allegedly alive. If anyone ever met him, they never thought it was noteworthy enough to write a word. The gospels were written 40 to 140 years after the godman supposedly lived. The first person to write about Jesus was Paul, but he admits he never met a man named Jesus. Paul's Jesus was a voice in his head. Paul's delusion is the oldest bit of evidence for Jesus. But, it is evidence of delusion and the contradictory gospels and epistles prove an evolving mythology. Most of the gospels and epistles were burned by the Catholic church, but many have been found in the past century. They show a wide variety of ideas about the Jewish godman, just as varied as the writings about Mithras and Hercules and the other godmen born of a virgin, a very common claim for godmen 2,000 years ago.
