Giving awards for something that must be normal (being honest) does nothing but fostering and keeping alive a toxic culture where honesty is an "exception". It shouldn't be. Awards are for special, extra-ordinary acts, not things that should be normal, and if we want people to understand that, we should precisely stop treating acts of kindness and honesty as "heroic" and to be awarded...
@LUSCIOUSDUNCAN

@@situazionauta I was being hyperbolic to make a point. You've never heard an idiom like, "you get a gold star for that"? Point is: No, I don't think this officer should literally be given an Honesty Award; That being said, yes, as absurd as it may seem to praise someone for "just doing what they're supposed to do," what she did took a lot of bravery. She knew damn well her coworker was gonna get pissed and she could've just said "fuck it who cares" and walked away and when you see that kind of "idgaf" attitude when these cops play with people's lives I gotta say: Yes. It is very refreshing seeing a police officer do something kind for once. Is that a statement on the sad state of affairs our police are in? Sure. But the lady was still nice. So whatever.

It's hilarious and disturbing that a dui gets you fired but falsely detaining and jailing someone gets you 'extra training' Edit: Apparently I need to clarify something. Obviously driving drunk can kill families and should get you fired. I think, however, if an officer is power tripping to the point where they falsely detain the man in this video, they should be fired too. Because falsely detaining someone won't kill that person, but it can traumatise them. More importantly, these police officers are the ones that end up killing someone over absolutely nothing because they perceive some crime to be taking place

Amazing how they managed to get the last drunk cop out of the car without dragging him out, beating him, shooting him, or anything else. The were so patient and kind to him, even negotiated for a bit. But the old black man with knee injuries gets literally slammed to the ground and stepped on. Blind man gets arrested for "resisting" when all he did was ask for their name and badge numbers. Police officers really can be kind and patient when they want to. This just goes to show that a lot of times they choose not to.

The truth of the matter is that when you see a video of a cop beating the shit out of someone you know they are a bad cop and would likely be a bad cop for anyone in their path who doesn't immediately bow down to their commands, and probably also ones that do. The cop in the last video was a good cop, who likely would have treated everyone in that exact way. The reason we see so many videos of cops "going lightly" on other cops is because the only ones who will pull over a bad cop are the good cops. You'll never see a power trip when an officer confronts an off duty cop, because all the bad cops let their drunk friends go and get rid of the evidence.

It's crazy how often people ask for a supervisor, and expect that they will get somebody that is more educated in the law, more reasonable, has better training at interacting with the public, and instead they find that the jack-booted thug that trained the jackbooted thug deer already dealing with is indeed the supervisor. This demonstrates that so often the horrible behavior and lack of knowledge of so many police officers goes right back to their training and their leadership. I often say that the jackboot doesn't fall far from the Thug.

A good friend of mine who finally got the chance to retire from the local county police department told me once that his officers under his command complained about having to wear a body camera. He told me and actually asked an officer in front of me what they are worried for since it is there to legally protect the public as well as themselves from anything illegal. He actually noted the officers by name and created incident reports to his captain on the officers complaining about it as a noteworthy only type of IR in case something came up involving those officers. What his supervisors did with them who knows but friend took to heart what my uncle taught me in the private sector and what he was field trained by seriously through the fact they are peacekeeper officers and not law enforcement officers and I was not a security officer but also a peacekeeper. My uncle had a strong philosophy that said that when an officer thinks of themself as a law enforcement officer then they forget that the job goes beyond law and are less likely to engage positively with the community and prevents the officer to acknowledge both sides can be right and wrong and deal with each other accordingly to the level that is appropriate no matter the gender, age, and culture.

You CAN actually technically say no to things like breathalyzers and field sobriety test in most areas. The result is sitting in the drunk tank for a bit, and sometimes auto-suspension of license depending on jurisdiction. But you CAN deny it. (I personally would always say no to a FST because I'm disabled and my conditions would fail me by proxy with most forms of FST. But you can request chemical or breath, or deny all of them. It IS within a citizen's rights in most areas).
