I'm 57 years old and have been playing guitar since high school. Gibson models mostly. I just received my new Epiphone Les Paul Custom (Alpine White), and I will honestly say that to buy a guitar of this quality 30 years ago, it would have cost thousands of dollars. I'm only a hobbyist now, but if Epiphone keeps up this level of quality (and tone), I'll never buy another Gibson. Great video, greetings from the U.S.! ✌️

@@JackTaylorGuitars The person who says, "there is no point" is like saying "There is no point in driving a BMW after you've driven a Honda". They're both great cars, get you where you're going, have fantastic appointments, and are a huge price difference apart. Better yet, a closer comparison would be a GMC Denali and a Cadillac Escalade. Both will do EXACTLY the same thing, but which will you choose on your budget and why? Also, not to nit-pick on the price difference, but if you added a hardshell case, even an aftermarket Gator, you're above 1/7. Not much, but above. LOL I think people should play what they like and what they can afford. I would never put down someone on stage with a Epiphone! Think about how I feel, I get on stage with an Alpine White Les Paul Custom and Slash Appetite Les Paul (both Gibson) and what does my co-guitarist take out? His Gibson R9 hand picked top and Custom shop Explorer from the recent run! We both have several Gibson guitars and we both appreciate what the other is doing with them, because at the end of the day, it's about the player, and the guitar is just a tool. People can't let expense get the best of them. @Gary Novak, you rock whatever you like! I was at an open mic one night in upstate NY and in walks this dude who borrows my friend's MiM bare bones Strat and plays through a Line 6 HD500 floor modeler. He tore it up and brought the roof down! I bought him a drink and said, "Dude you rock!" He thanked me. After the guy left, my friend said, "you know who that was?" I said, "No". He said, "That was Robin Trower." I lifted my beer and said, "well, that explains why he was so dang good!" Most people aren't playing through 100,000 watts of PA under lights night after night. They don't need to trust that gear at a level that would make or break their livelihoods. They're in their bedrooms wailing away through "Cemetery Gates" or "Folsom Prison Blues". There's no need in spending the $$ for a full set of Snap-On tools when the Craftsman or Walmart brand will work just fine.

Epiphone has always made a pretty good product. But in the last few years they really set the bar high! I got mine this past April . I was in the market for a Les Paul but in my price range the best I might be able to do was a pre owned Gibson studio model . After much thought on the subject , I finally decided on an Epi Custom Pro Koa Top. With the Epi , I was getting a brand new axe without the dings or other issues a pre owned guitar might have . The Epi Custom versus the Gibson Studio gives me the full thickness and weight (9.2 lbs) with the front and back binding . The Koa top has a very unique look and on my particular guitar , the top has a very attractive bookmatch . I have been playing it as is, right out of the box and having a great time . I still may have it in for a set up to sweeten the action just a bit but I also like it as it is. In the end, the Epi won me over because I was buying it for my own personal enjoyment and not for what it says on the headstock.

When I was looking at the Custom I couldn't make up my mind on the Koa Top or the Black Beauty so I said what the hell and bought them both. Right out of the box they only needed the action lowered just a little bit and other than a few cosmetic changes (tophat knobs and pointers, amber switch tip, Gibson strap buttons and Creamtone truss rod covers) these guitars are first class all the way.

Being a acoustic guitar player mostly I have a Les Paul and a strat. The only reason I feel more at home with a Les Paul is because it reminds me of my acoustic guitar the way it plays and the way I can handle which is pretty rough…the fender is different it’s more accentuated and needs a softer approach. I've returned a few '59s in search of the warmer sounding ones. My Southern Fade is the most acousticly rich and warm sounding solidbody guitar I've ever held in my hands. I don't care where it's made or what they call it, many a man has payed 3-5 times as much, in hopes of getting one this good. If you played it blindfolded, you'd swear it was a customshop R9. @@Zoso981 I'd get them with keystone keys. The kidney bean ones don't look right with the Kalamazoo headstock. I got them specifically for this reason. When you reverse directions with them while tuning, there's a bit of slop in a couple. I've heard there's a way to tighten them up mechanically, but it's something that I've learned to live with. The look is soo much better than the Grovers with ugly round/kidney bean keys.

The main problem with Gibson tuning is the cut of the nut. Check the height. typically the strings are a bit high, which effects the intonation. And also check the depth of the strings in the nut. Especially if you are going with lighter strings. Often the slots are too deep and it causes string binding. Especially the G and B strings. It's not so bad with the E because the angle isn't as extreme. I think it's because in the end they are all mass produced, building hundreds of guitars a day, and if you mess up the nut by setting the strings too low or have the top of it shaved down too much you can't fix it. The nut is ruined. So they err on the safe side.

Having such a hard time deciding between this and the Epi Prophecy (new version.) 2 totally different guitars but I love them both. I like the body contours a the fit and finish and the weight of the Prophecy a lot. And the 24 frets. But the neck pickup is in a weird spot and I’m concerned about it effecting my picking hand. @@amirtp_ Man, you’re choosing between two very good affordable guitars there. If it was me, I think I’d try to play them both before hand see which one feels right to you. That said, the HSS player is the best pickup configuration and will do both rock with the bridge humbucker and lofi with the neck single coil really well. The Les Paul, though, it has it’s own sound entirely and will still do what you need it to. For your needs, if you’re playing more lofi I’d pick the strat. If you’re playing more rock I’d pick the Les Paul. Definitely try to play them first and see which you like best though. @@amirtp_ I get you dude. I’m that case, the safe bet in my opinion would be the Player Strat. They’re a more comfortable guitar with a neck shape that suits most people. The Les Paul isn’t as comfortable to sit with but the shorter scale length means less distance between frets which is nice for people with smaller hands. I don’t have huge hands either so I know what you mean. Probably worth looking for into the Strat my dude, I think it’ll be a more well rounded guitar for your situation 👍

I found out from Epiphone that the top IS NOT KOA. It’s a maple cap with Koa veneer. All their marketing affirmatively states it’s a Koa top. I don’t like liars or sneaky marketing. It’s probably a pretty guitar, probably plays well, too, but when a company outright lies about their product I stay away. They shouldn’t be lying about it. Just tell everyone it’s a maple cap with a koa veneer. No big deal. At least people will know exactly what they’re getting.
