Brighter lighting (sunlight) in the garden? (Still thinking of her reduced vision in her right eye.) Probably simply more room and more distractions for both of them.

TT always smacks DD since forever. And DD just took it good naturely.
I have been feeding stray cats for 3 years. One thing I have learned is that there is always a rank pyramid in a colony of cats and a female cat is always the matriarch at the top of the pyramid. I believe TT is the matriarch and must make sure everyone stays in line within the rank pyramid.

I read a similar comment on another video some time back that said that colonies of cats always have a dominant male and female. Very loose organization, very loose hierarchy, but there will be a dominant pair. They don't have to be a couple, they just have to work together doing their respective jobs for the group. That commenter thought that TT hits DD whenever he tries to get too close/personal; she's saying, "Hey, this is just business, buddy, we're both just working here".
@davegold
2 ะถัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
TT is the dominant female and DD the dominant male. I'm sure DD knows what he's doing when he walks too close to her so he must be willing to take the smacks just for the chance that she'll accept him. By now though, he should really just give up and snuggle with Lala.
Pretty sure it started because Claire got new cats. TT reacted to it. The same happened with my cats when we got a new one.

She would have shown aggressiveness towards the newcomers. But she's been a second mom for them, especially with Lala. And Lulu is the only one who's privileged enough to lick and cuddle her of all 7 originals. TT and Nana are inseparable. No, it is something that is specifically about DD.

I would personally say that it's probably a dominance thing. TT sees that DD is dominant over the other cats, so she wants to be dominant toward him because that means she's the top cat.
@guyver441
2 ะถัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
It also probably has to do with size. DD is very fluffy and appears much larger than TT, but to him they're still close friends and he shouldn't be making her nervous by getting that physically close to her.

@@funnykitten2927 TT's the eldest, but DD is the first cat. Though TT came about 2 weeks after DD. It's most likely dominance issue, and I think DD lets TT smack him because he knows she has illness. I watched somewhere on KZitem that the healthier cat tolerates the sick one.
@lacytaylor1501
2 ะถัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
It also maybe because TT is sick and wants her space. DD is a rather large cat and can unintentionally get too close without realizing and get smacked.

Maybe their relationship changed with introduction of a new cat? Or maybe at certain age DD tried to hit on TT? Or maybe TT has any health issue back then that make her feel agitated and DD got on her bad side? This is really so mysterious ๐

DD really is a gentle giant. If he really wanted to fight back. TT wouldn't stand a chance. I think TT just wants her space and doesn't want to share Claire with the other cats. So she's probably jealous of DD.

I saw a comment in the catโs relationship video that explain why TT keeps smacking DD and it matches the evidence in this video. TT and DD are the oldest male and female cats in the house and that makes them alphas. After the little ones arrived, male alphas have to look after every cats closely while the female look after from distance. When DD tries to take care of TT, she has to tell DD that sheโs working by smacking him.
My guess is jealousy, since DD sometimes takes the petting times of an already limited number of time mommy can spend with each individual cat, since Claire now has 10 cats. But who knows? ๐คทโโ๏ธ

I love that DD doesn't fight with the girl kitties. And it seems to me (being a viewer and not Claire) that TT only punches because she doesn't like others to be too close. It's mostly DD, MoMo and occasionally LaLa that get smacked. Female cats are more territorial because they have a protective instinct, so her hitting DD can also be because he's the greatest 'risk' to her (and the cats under her).
@federicanardi7227
2 ะถัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
She started hitting DD when the other kitties arrived. I wonder if having kitties around had maybe awaken her maternal instinct. In the first video where she hits him, she is laying down with the kittens behind her. Maybe she was feeling protective of the kitties? I've seen my female cats becoming very aggressive toward the adult males cat of the house when they had kitties, maybe TT felt something similar. And DD was the only adult male cat at the time.
@mrgannon
2 ะถัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
@@federicanardi7227 Did her "maternal instinct" lead her to pushing kitten Lala into the high water dish and almost drowning her? Her punching kitten Lala is probably what taught Lala to think violence is okay and to start hitting the others "I learned it from you okay???" ๐

2 ะถัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
@@mrgannon I don't know... I've seen that maternal instinct can stop very early in cats. When the kitties are grown up, mama cat can even start to hit them to send them away. If they are not aggressive maybe they just ignore them and go away, but some of them are pretty brutal. Then there are also preferences. And also those are not her real kittens. Maybe it has been a mixture of instincts and feelings

@@Commenter839 Well Lulu does have his health issues, hm was Toto the one who got so sick, if so maybe that's why if not, Toto is more chill than his brother and Nana is rather calm more often then not. I don't believe I've seen Chuchu get smacked either and she's a very chill kitty too as well as having had a lot of issues due to breathing. The other cats are high energy healthy kitties who might stress TT out when they get in her space.

It's obvious that DD loves TT. The way he checks on her, and often comes to rest near her even when she snaps at him. I think her behaviour has more than one cause. She is the dominant female in the flock, and needs to maintain her rank. Somebody mentioned that she might be uncomfortable because of her kidney problems, and is lashing out because of that. I don't know, of course, but it seems plausible to me. Since you say that it started happening only a few years ago, I also think that it could be related to the size of the flock/family group. It seems to me that TT is not very comfortable in large groups, and the more cats there are, the more she feels that she has to make an effort to establish her boundaries. "Approach me on _my_ terms!" says Queen TT. I'm only guessing, and I could of course be wrong, but it seems likely to me. The fact that she doesn't snap at DD when they are outdoors underscores my guess. I don't know if there is anything you can/should do to change the situation, but one idea could be to find a way for TT to get some space for herself. One way to do that is to get a cat door that unlocks with an RFID chip, put the chip on a collar for TT and rebuild a wardrobe into her private quarters. I've seen that done on another channel, "Walter Santi" from Turkey. I don't know if that would work for you, but it's worth considering at least.
@nicoleb695
2 ะถัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
I think you're right that she's establishing dominance and also that it could be exacerbated because she's dealing with pain. Tbh I know that in cat colonies some mom cats will bat at their kittens when they're grown enough to establish the boundary of "Give me my space!" When outdoors she may feel more confident because there's more space for them to roam and she knows that DD will be more interested in what's going on than inside.
I love how DD never fight back no matter what. He loves all his siblings and respect the female cats so much โค๏ธ๐ Dundun is the best older brother
