Not to be too critical but it always makes me chuckle to see someone trying to work on small delicate parts like a carb float/needle/seat with mechanics gloves on. Much easier with the dexterity and feeling afforded by bare hands.

Hahahah! Believe it or not, I've been wearing gloves, working on small intricate things like this, for over 15 years now. I wear gloves as I have a habit of banging up my hands, and have gotten used to it. Working in construction, wearing gloves is pretty important for a lot of cut hazards. Nothing like trying to work with control wires, while having to wear gloves (have been on many jobsites where gloves were 100% mandatory) So after all this time, it's just become second nature to have them, but I've gotten pretty used to them, struggles and all!

I hear you, and it took a lot of time before I got used to it. When they have become mandatory on many construction sites I've worked on (electrician) it's become pretty much second nature to have on while working. Plus I'm a little clumsy and bash up my hands a bit 🤣

I've always liked these engines. Between my parents and my Grandma we ended up having several craftsman mowers with them. Easiest starting mowers I've ever seen, I can usually do it on the 1st pull with good priming. I still use one of them where my riding mower can't get. Crazy to think they're over 20 years old now

If you check out this one, kzitem.info/news/bejne/lYePnZWfbmqQoKAsi=0osgSrm-TDoPNc4D, It's a 35 year old mower! I was using it up until a month ago, when I finally decided to sell it. I kinda didn't want to, and sorta regret it, but that engine started so easy I actually accidentally started it in the video hahaha!

i had a yard machine with a brigs but in my old toro wizard commercial stand behind mower i had when i was kid had a 8 hp tecumseh that thing sucked the one i had on that mower would always leak oil and caused the motor to blow a head gasket my buddy had one on his old craftsman mower that did the same thing to him as well but my wizard toro didn't have a warranty so i asked my buddys dad who owned a small mower shop to find me a 8 hp brigs with the same size blade shaft and replaced the motor on it and i never had a issue with that dang mower again great video

That sounds about right for a Tecumseh! They were funny, because when you got a shitty one, they were really shitty.. But sometimes you would get one that would just run forever. I've been lucky with the ones I've found so far, but you did the right thing swapping for a Briggs. Especially when buying a Briggs meant something. Today, them old Tecumsehs are more reliable than many modern engines.

Did a 20" murray at little different. No low speed jet no red tube a brass tube. Same primer bulb. 1st one I have seen. I never take intake tube off. All linkage stays on only un hook off of carburetor. I always run mower about 10 minutes or so to get the grey gunk from bottom of sump mixed in to oil before draining. Good video

I like taking the intake off as it tells a story about the condition of the engine on its own. I had a Murray 20" (Cursed I tell you, have a video on it too) and it had a stripped bolt for the intake manifold in the replacement engine. Disaster it was. So I always take the whole thing apart to get an overall picture of the condition of the mower. As for starting the mower, I usually use an extractor, which does a pretty good job sucking up everything, but some pockets I'm sure stay behind.. Thanks for watching!

You can adjust those cables, roughly about 1/4" or so. I usually do it at the butterfly end at the engine, but the butterfly connection will unscrew. Hold the main cable just behind it with some pliers, and grab the butterfly piece and unscrew. There's usually 4 or 5 threads before you'll separate the end from the cable. If it's that close, try 2 threads and see if it moves the cable enough. I'd also put some lube into the outer casing, as it could be catching inside also.

Oh okay, I think I've figured out what you mean now. My son has a motorized bike (We stuck an engine on it) and the conduit has kind of fallen apart, but had those little metal crimped stoppers on the ends, to help keep the conduit together.. Well they kinda were very Chinese build quality, and fell the conduit has pulled thru it.. But putting them on and off trying to fix it, yeah, threaded on! I will give that a try on the next one I come across, as this sold in a few hours after I listed it.

I love those Tecumseh engines on the mowers. They are noisy, they are clunky, they are stinky old ones. But honestly, they run so nice, and sound amazing... I want to figure out some way to adapt my kid's bike exhaust to one, just... for shits! Would make a hilarious video... Get a Self-Propelled Tecumish, find some way to put a ridiculous exhaust on it, and have some grandiose fun! I know that it would be a lot easier on an old Briggs flathead, because of the threaded exhaust port.. but where's the fun in easy? :)
