I like Jon's idea. Create the three sub divisions in CO, one of them being CO Production, which you would include Iron Sights, because you would cater to those production shooters who do not want to use dots, 15 round capacity for magazines.

See that's where I was at. My first match even in steel challenge I had to go limited because I have a P10C at 15 round capacity. I really don't want to down load to 10 each, and I am not able to put an optic on it since the slide isn't optics ready. 15 rounds is reasonable for production at this point. They run a limited 10, run a production 10.

I think the idea of removing the mandatory optic requirement from CO is probably the greatest improvement with the least downside. Most *new* new shooters show up and shoot limited because they (A) have a modern wonder 9, (B) Don't have an optic yet, and (C) dont have enough mags or mag carriers to shoot prod. If you were to implement this change, it would hasten the decline of prod and proper limited major in such a way as to facilitate further effective rule changes sooner. After that, I honestly think you could roll up Prod, L10, and Single stack into a new, "locap" umbrella division. 8 round major capacity, 10 round minor. Though I'm sure the 7 L10 shooters in the country would be very dismayed they would have to sacrifice 2 rounds to continue shooting major. After that, roll SAO guns into CO, and the old Limited major shooters can keep shooting their guns in carry optics (maybe rename it "carry" or something). You might even be able to let them have major power factor as the advantage becomes less important when there are optics and the minor guys get a few more rounds. Definitely more options worth considering but I think those are reasonably low cost improvements.

Just allow optics in all divisions and remove the round capacity limitation for production. Done.

I honestly like the way PRS addressed its divisions a lot: divide it by cost, not including optics. Under 1500 and irons = Production, for example, over and irons = Limited. Same for optics dividing between Open and CO

At some point you have to think about it from a normal persons perspective. Open/ major race guns Modified production guns- comps allowed with minor ammo and mag limit but capacity around 17ish and weight limit Carry guns- no comps, minor ammo, less weight, mag limit 10 round mag of same stuff as above Everybody shoots 9mm anyway and who cares if iron wants to shoot against dots. It has to make sense to people who aren’t already in this world

I personally think that every decade or so, Pandora's box needs to be opened ahead of time, before they get left behind. Nowadays people are carrying 2011's with magwells and red dots, I 100% see every gun having comps, and magwells in the future, and firearms getting better. If they don't reopen the rule book, they're going to have the issue the IDPA has, I.E non of the rules are relevant in a modern sense, and it doesn't matter what modern firearm you use, you have to restrict it. I personally won't shoot IDPA because the rules don't make sense. If I want to use a duty gun, I can only have 15 shots and no dot. If I want to use my carry gun, I either have to jump it into full-size, or drop the capacity by 9, and shoot it in a limited 10 division. Probably 4 people right off the top of my head EDC 365's with comps, 17 round mags, and a red dot, and went to one comp to get better with their carry gun, and left because they were thrown into open.

I’m not keen on making new divisions and changing more rules, but if this absolutely had to be done, roll current CO into ipsc production optics rule set to actually “prepare people for world level matches” and make a new optics division with 2011s and slide comps and whatever they want under a different rule set. Everybody gets what they want.

To your point about ROs, I will have worked three level 3 and two level 2 matches this year and would have worked 2 more level 2 matches if it didn't cost me more to RO the level 2 matches then it would to just shoot the match. Two Gun Nationals would have been more expensive to shoot then RO if I don't account for using my vacation time. (I think my prize table pull of about $300 benefited from the low turn out, I know my rank did!) CO and Two Gun will be cheaper for me as they don't require a hotel to break up the drive into a manageable trip.

Also RO gifts need to be better at these events. The best and I would say good RO "table" was the Wisconsin Sectional. I pulled a $100 gift card and I was one of the last tickets drawn. For two gun Nationals I got a Multi Tool, they did give 5 P322 at random which was cool for those who won one.

So I saw rules were updated for 2022 in 3 Gun but not standard USPSA, is the election the hold up? IDPA is up to 15 rounds for stock service pistol, but USPSA won't allow 15 for production?

I forgot to ask this on the live stream, but what can be done about the fishing vests so common in IDPA? I'm usually the only one showing up to those meme matches exactly the same way I carry everyday. Imo it ruins the philosophy and motivation behind the sport.

So this may be a really dumb question. But I have zero experience with ported guns or whatever you want to call this new sig. How does this type of comp affect the PF of ur ammo? Would you need to change ur reloads?? Considering that the sig has a shorter barrel than you would usually have in ur comp rig and that would probably dumb down the PF alone. Then the additional venting of the gasses would you have to really crank up ur reloads.
@shootinbruin3614
2 жыл бұрын
In the Sig Macro / Spectre Comp's particular case, there is a change in velocity compared to a P365XL due to the barrel being shortened to accommodate the slide mounted "comp." However, a comp in and of itself does not affect velocity. If barrel lengths were identical, velocities will be effectively identical whether a compensator is installed or not. The only reason you might need to up your reloads is if the comp slows down slide velocity to the point that the gun no longer cycles. However, I doubt you'd see this in practice if you're running anything close to the PF floor. Hope this helps

It could be done with 5 divisions Hi cap irons (wonder 9s, 2011s, whatever) Lo cap irons- 10 rounds and under (1911s, wonder 9s in cap limited states etc) Optics with a weight limit Optics with no weight limit PCC Revolver is essentially dead, but leave it there I guess and run them eith the lo cap irons Then have people run their guns, not their mouths. I have local dudes that would kick everyone's ass whether they were shooting a high point or an atlas. People lean on gear and not on skill

Does USPSA run any kind of exit interviewing or surveys on people exiting? Are division issues a major reason people stop? Isn't the average USPSA competitor like D or C class? Do they care about the exact division rules? If a major reason people stop is cost, why not do something terrible like a 22lr division? If a major reason people stop is that they hit a ceiling and can't progress, why not consider an insane classification system like sporting clays with their punchcards, where you just progress strictly upwards, and do it mostly through a grind against people at your same level? Shotgun sports must be doing something right since they have like an order of magnitude or more competitors than action pistol. You'll get thousands of people showing up to the national high school championship.
@danielmoy6633

And if watering down the classifications with a sporting-clay-style-punchcard makes the top competitors feel bad, then introduce a separate ranking system in addition to a letter classification. Use whatever. Do Elo like chess. Borrow a points system from something like tennis or fencing based on major matches.

Let's listen to David drink some Sig cool aid. Hilarious. I don't think there will be an "interesting" conversation, it will be a short conversation. It's a comp if it works at all, and it should be noted that the Glossary entry would need to be changed not the Division rules. The Divisions all just say "No" compensators. There is also the simple fact that if comps are allowed in other divisions, the idea that you can show up with factory ammo and still be competitive goes out the window. More opportunity for tuning for competitive advantage.

the comp cut could be emblematic of anything that is the next handgun tech that becomes adopted mainstream - this just happens to be the current iteration. Based on your sentence craft I would have figured you'd have been able to put that one together. You're right patch up the current rule book and limp along. Clearly a better solution.

@@thearrogantmarksman I'm not sure I follow how a less effective compensator is the next tech. More ubiquitous - sure. Cheaper - sure. But "the next tech", nah it's old news in new packaging and we already know that compensators and dots are game changers.
