Nick and Lemmy hang out in the Dorman garage and talk about when and why they do or don’t use plugs to repair tires.
Is it okay to use a string plug or a patch plug to repair a tire? Nick and Lemmy have done a ton of successful repairs using both types of plugs. There’s no denying that plugs offer a cost-effective and popular alternative to replacing a tire. So why do some tire dealers and repair shops discourage plugs?
Well, for starters, tire dealers generally want to sell tires first and tire repairs second. And some shops and techs may worry about liability if a plug they installed fails. And then there’s that tired old “wisdom” that tire plugs don’t hold.
These two guys qualify as tire repair experts that are worth listening to. Lemmy has owned, fixed, or purposely neglected a ridiculous variety and quantity of rolling modes of transportation. Nick’s weekend drifting hobby shreds so many tires that his local tire store dedicated an exceptionally comfy seat in their customer lounge to him. Both are seriously skilled techs with a similarly twisted sense of humor. Most importantly, they’ve plugged more tires than most and share that experience and knowledge in this freewheeling, unscripted, educational chat.
Listen, laugh and learn. And then go forth and plug tires the right way, blissfully free of any fears based on old, misinformed tire repair lore.
