My grandmother only had one eye because when she was 6, her sister lit a firecracker and threw it in the air. My grandmother, the poor little girl, looked up, right as it came down and exploded in her eye. My cousin was missing a good chunk of his pinky finger from a firecracker when he was 5. I had somebody throw a lit M-80 down my shirt when I was 8 years old. I grabbed it through my shirt and pulled it away just as it went off in my hand. I didn't lose anything, but I had some nasty burns. Fireworks are no joke.

As a kid in the 1960s, our dad took us early to see the 4th of July fireworks event at the edge of the bay,, parking our 58 Rambler station wagon right up front and putting us on the roof of the car to watch. As soon as the first rockets were launched, something went wrong, and a grass fire suddenly spread to all the fireworks, setting them off on the ground only yards away. I remember seeing guys running from the scene and suddenly everything was exploding all around us. It was raining burning cinders everywhere. My dad got us down on the ground and shielded us until the fire dept. got there and put everything out. Because of the panic, hundreds of accidents, and cars trying to get away, we were stuck there half the night before we could get out of the traffic jam. As a kid, I just went to sleep in the back seat (those old station wagons had back seats the size of sofas) and woke up at home...

Eleven years ago I was guarding a construction site in San Diego, California, on the 4th of July just two blocks from the local baseball venue, Petco Park, when a little old Asian woman came out of the apartment building next door to my post with a Great Dane as celebratory fireworks were fired from the ballpark. Of course, the dog began flipping out and the senior struggled to contain the dog, which was easily bigger than her. They got to the end of the block where the sizable pooch emptied her bladder, and on the way back they didn't even make it back to the door they had emerged from as fireworks continued to shoot into the air and explode. The huge dog, in a panic, bolted down the ramp leading to the underground garage as the poor old woman, getting dragged along and barely staying on her feet, desperately mashed the button on the garage gate opener.

When I was young I had a nasty accident with a sparkler. One of my sisters, no one admitted to it so I don't know who, dropped a sparkler on the floor, but did not put it out. The sparkler was dropped outside right in front of the sliding glass door leading to the backyard. I was inside and when I took a step through the doors and onto patio I stepped directly on the still lit sparkler. Burned a hole into my foot and was such an intense pain just seeing sparklers reminds me of that moment and I don't touch them or go near them anymore. @@MJ-iq9ph you need to learn a little more about history. the ancestors of the missiles used on the modern battlefield wore giant bottle rockets. the giant bottle rockets had the explosive power equal to roughly 2 sticks of dynamite. they would launch the giant bottle rockets out of tubes or canons and hope they would hit the enemy (with a 25% to 30% rate of success). these giant bottle rockets wore used mostly in the revolutionary war, the civil war, and part of ww1. they wore also used in may European wars. also the ancestors of hand grenades wore nothing more then over sized cherry bombs. this style of grenades wore used from the 1600s to ww1 and saw limited use in Vietnam by the Vietcong.

Most accidents here occured by carelessness, when I was a boy I detonated a myriad of fireworks, I was fond of the most explosives, NEVER had I suffer any injury, I was always very cautious in its handling. My basics must dos were: - To imagine in my mind the escape route - To have cover after the ignition - To check the length of the fuse, if it was short, I would use a distant method for ignition - For very strong detonations I would put myself in a tossing position with my arm retracted and have another boy of my earnest confidence to light the fuss, all the while with my eyes observing the event; the starter boy had the duty of yelling "NOW!" when the fuss got ignited.

A neighborhood family set the side of their house on fire a few years back. They had the fireworks sitting on a table next to the house when a rocket went backwards, landed on the table and exploded. It burned the outside of the house and most of their carport before the fire department doused the flames; fortunately it didn't burn through the wall and into the house. The man and his sister both suffered 2cd and 3rd degree burns on their arms and legs from the explosion and subsequent attempt to put out the fire with a garden hose. It was an interesting conclusion to the block fireworks displays and that 4th of July celebration.

Important: never, ever, EVER, put ice on a burn. It literally kills your cells, and is possibly the worst thing you can do to a burn. Put the burn under cold (not icy) water between 20 to 30 seconds. If it’s still really hurting, you can put it under more cold water, but dont put it under for a really long time if the water is very cold. (The burn should feel soothed, not numb) And if it is bigger than the size of a quarter (or a 20 cent coin for aussies) or is blistering, or is not showing signs of healing/ feels hot to the touch 3 days later, you should typically have it checked out at a clinic. If it blisters a lot, or is a dark red, showing signs of infection, or you have tissue that appears melted, get yourself to a hospital. Burn cream is sometimes okay, but only should be used for burns that can be easily treated at home. If you’re not sure, ask a doctor if it’s safe to use. Stay safe, please. :)

Don’t run if your clothes catch fire, keep small children and pets away from fireworks or keep them indoors, NEVER attempt to light a firework if it doesn’t ignite the first time

Walking to the bar one fourth of July in Las Vegas, I noticed a house across the street with its roof on fire. The family was in the back yard celebrating and had no clue. I beat on the door til they answered and the crowd that had gathered started using garden hoses to slow it down til the fire dept came. We saved their house♥️ Fireworks are no joke.

@@christineparis5607 _Thank you!! I had a full detachment of the Left-Eye that happened in just few hours, back in 2016. Was completely blind (Dumb luck, I already had a full Cataract in that Right-Eye back then with only 20% vision and was waiting to have surgery on that one.)_ _Most people have no idea what real darkness is, but that was the scariest "Blackness" I had ever witnessed. I had my surgery at Duke and regained 100% vision after 10 weeks of waiting for the Argon gas bubble to go away._ _This one in my Right-Eye was just an 80% detachment and I'm praying that it is just as successful, but like the other one, I have a long wait time to find out._ _God Bless!!_

@@MAGGOT_VOMIT Oh my god, I am having trouble even contemplating that situation!! You have been through something most people could not face, I am sure you will have a very successful outcome, and I am lighting a candle and doing the smoke for a quick and painless recovery (my mom was half native American so I borrow cool traditions I like!). I will be happy to offer up any prayers to, whatever helps you! You have obviously been through a lot, and survived. I think surviving makes us feel differently about the world and people in it. It sometimes narrows the focus to what's most important and what is needed the most. I am wishing you good fortune and happy, peaceful times ahead to be joyful with, and your sight fully restored, take care of yourself!!!😘

Step by step process of when pizza goes wrong. 1 cut hole in pizza and box 2 insert erect self into that hole 3 ring the doorbell 4 when gf arrives ask did you order pizza with extra Italian sausage 5 have her or yourself open box 6 by this time you should realize the pizza didn’t cool off enough and you feel the underside of your extra Italian sausage is burning and you will not have a sexy time due to your newfound burn injury. TBH tried this another time but made the hole a bit too small and after step 5 she had her fun and the abrasion from the cardboard really left me tender down there. That is how pizza can go wrong

_I had a close call. Back in the 70's My grandpa owned an old Country Store. He used to sell those round multi-colored smoke bombs. One day my cousin and I (we were about 12yrs old) found a bag of them far under the counter. We took 'em out back but noticed all of them were RED. I lit one and was gonna hold it. About 3 seconds later I decided to pitch it. It exploded!!! O.O We both suddenly realized that these were Cherry Bombs!!!_

I was expecting to see Jean Pierre Paul. He was an NFL player for the New York Giants when the fireworks messed up his hand. At the time, I thought his career was over but he returned despite losing a couple of fingers. He just won a Superbowl with The Tampa Bay Bucs this past Superbowl.

I always remember my mum telling a story about a bunch of women in a parade who were covered in cotton balls as part of their costume. Someone lit a firework - shot it at them. When it exploded a whole lot of these women caught fire & because it was cotton balls the fire just spread. There were very severe burns from this. I've always hated them so much, I'm so glad we banned a whole heap including rockets from general sales as they could be so dangerous & destructive.
