Rogan assumes things al the time. The worst is when he gets something in his head and WILL NOT drop it: e.g. "I think that leg's compromised...." so he spends the next few minutes verbally looking for signs of it to prove himself right. Rather than, you know, commentating. I like Herb, but he's far from perfect. I also like Hardy, who also has some issues. I think it would be fine if there was a bit more open discourse around this sport without the hype/ narrative getting in the way of simple conversation.

Herb Dean and Dan Hardy, two of the best characters in the UFC orbit. They had a go at each other that one time, and I really think it should have just been let go and moved on. @@dezignateddriva Completely agree- I think they should have let them have a conversation/ interview later on, made their points, agreed or not and gotten on with it. Hardy had that other incident in Abu Dhabi but no one seems to know the truth about it.
@alarson1799
Ай бұрын
@@dezignateddriva The difference is that what Dan Hardy did, though it almost certainly wasn't his intention, is fight-fixing. If a commentator that works for the UFC demands that the referee, who is contracted by the athletic commission, end the fight and the referee does it, then that means that the UFC called the result of the fight. That's illegal. Even if the referee called the fight by his own judgment, not listening to the commentator at all, the result of the fight is now called into question. This opens up the UFC to a ton of legal problems, likely resulting in them being banned from holding competitions under that athletic commission (i.e.- in that state/country). Other commissions will also take note of this and may choose not to work with the UFC, either. Worse, the UFC may actually be taken down because they engaged in fight-fixing, and socially, they would almost certainly lose a ton of the fan-base who would no longer trust any fight wasn't being fixed. Heck, there are already a ton of people that say the UFC fixes fights. THAT'S why Dan Hardy was fired.

Herbs a good ref but he makes mistakes like every other ref. He should have done a proper reset and should have seen that Pereira had closed the distance while he was calling time. Jamahal is still being a bitch about it tho. He was defending well up until that point which is why you’d understand his frustration
@callanc3925

@@blackscreen1810 Key word in there "closed the distance *while* he was calling time." He didnt close it after he called time. He was already in motion. He literally stopped dead to wave off herb and then touched gloves before moving in any meaningful way.

@@callanc3925 like I said herb should have done a proper reset. Pereria hadn’t touched Jamahal until that point. Do u really think it’s a coincidence that he got KOed right after this happened. I’ve been saying ever since I heard him on the podcast that it was a clean KO with no bs. Rogan also said he Jamal was keeping Alex at kicking range the entire fight until that happened. @bilson7523

That's a whole Internet problem, not an American phenomenon, and it comes with running a show like his. In the grand scheme of things, Joe Rogan isn't really all that bad at it. Like everyone in the world, he has some cringe takes, but he frequently has guests on who disagree with him, and I've never seen him silence guests, so he gets clapback. That's 10x what I can say about a lot of talk shows. I mean, what are we saying here? It sucks that he is saying something he thinks is right? Isn't that what everyone does all the time?
@GSPfan2112

I honestly feel, if the ref was resetting, the fighters need a FULL reset. Hill felt remorse and Pereira realized that. It's a tough call.
@nolongerblocked6210
Ай бұрын
Bingo! Someone gets it!! Herb's supposed to be the ref, not Alex. Once Herb puts up the timeout signal he should've properly separated them. Instead he allowed Alex to decide the fights still on. Alex pulled a veteran move & got a slight advantage & took it. All that happened in about 7-10 seconds. I understand Hill's complaint, Alex essentially restarted the fight with over half the cage cutoff so it made it much harder for Hill to circle away
@GSPfan2112

I think Joe Rogan was trying to make the point that Jamal had lost his focus because of that slight distraction, whereas Poatan all the while stayed on point. Alex's left hand and right leg have immense power and speed, and he knows how to deploy them, period!

Well, to anyone who actually watched the fight, Pereira pushed Herb Dean away, so it's not absurd to think it might have disrupted the flow in Pereira's favor. And I don't know that Pereira was actually allowed to do that, Herb Dean has the right to step in whenever he wants and Pereira kind of denied him that. This whole sequence was unusual for sure so it's not surprising that there are diverging views on it.
