Here in SoCal, we begin to pick Bacon in mid October....so as said it all depends on location.

Just picked a couple Pinkerton’s here in Ventura,Co 2 weeks ago and they have decent oil content, but flavor will be better if I wait another month or 2🤞

Concord, CA. I have a Little Cado (also seen listed as Wertz or Wurtz) that set fruit for the first time in May of this year. There are 6 on the tree that are now a little over 5" long and almost 3" wide. They look big enough to eat, but it sounds like I should wait until May of next year to pick them (a full year+ on the tree)?

Gary, I know some of the varieties turn dull as opposed to shiny skin, when they are ready to pick, but is that true with all varieties or just some?

Yes, I should have mentioned that. Some don't but most do.

Gary, are you saying fuerte sets here in the bay area? I heard fuerte doesn't set here. If yours does set in the bay, does it produce heavily?

I get mixed production here on Fuerte. One year it set more cados than i've ever seen a tree set per cubic foot of biomass.

@@lauraluo388 wow! Do you have type A varieties planted near your fuerte? I'm originally from San Jose so I'm quite familiar with that area.I'll consider giving fuerte another try.

Hello scary hairy Gary, I live in Florida and I want to convert my large raised garden bed into where I plant my avocado tree. Do you think this is a good idea.

If I had a gun to my head, and someone said, I had to choose between having a vegetable garden and an avocado tree, the answer would be simple. I like the idea of an avocado tree over a vegetable garden, because the avocado tree you do nothing with every year other than maybe a little fertilizer and consistent moisture, and it feeds you. A Vegetable garden on the other hand takes work every single season to keep making food. But in an ideal world, you have both

@@ScaryHairyGary MY thought exactly! Which is why I'm slowly transitioning the raised bed for fruit trees. Also the raised bed gets all the sunlight. I'm in fort Lauderdale btw. Thank you for your help. May your wife continue to be well. Sending healing energy your way.😁
