Thank you. Separate use separate clean. Like the toilet sponge is in with the dish sponge in my mind... Like you could put hot water in metal or ceramic bowls separate the sponge and then fill up the sink under the lid of the bowl so theres no cros contamination but you could keep the water hot longer by switching out the water in the sink but leaving the bowls alone

The structure of a sponge does not allow it to get cleaned or disinfected, no matter what you do to them. You have to throw them out and buy new ones.

@@fuzzythegreat1 I could be wrong but I've never heard of copper being used as a boat anode over zinc and aluminum. Copper can oxidize but it can takes a very long time because it forms a green patina which acts as a protective coating and blocks more corrosion. Copper is one of the few metals we find in very ancient burials because its still intact while iron rusts away very fast in the presence of moisture.

I clean my sponge after each use. Now that you put them all in the same water, they are all chemical sponges, btw. I run my dish sponge through the dishwasher when I have a functioning one, otherwise I put them in the washer with my kitchen towels and rags.

Definitely possible. This person does not realize that vinegar reacts with copper alloys. Also, not sure why they would think it's okay to clean "separate use" sponges together. That is disgusting.

Use pure cotton cloths that you can bleach or boil and have several new ones each day never let your cloths stay wet store them in the air where they can dry in between uses.

A reminder : scrub daddies and scrub mommies are usually dish washer safe! And make sure you REALLY REALLY rinse those sponges if you dont want cross contamination. Keep the metal sponge separate from the others during cleaning, most of the “dirt” isn’t dirt, it’s most likely RUST! Also make sure to especially dry that metal sponge or else it will rust more. DONT LET THEM SIT OVERNIGHT! Sponges are a dream home for mold,

Pop the scrub daddy sponges and the yellow/green one in the dishwasher with a high temp rinse. The metal one soak in a small cup of just vinegar. The water is corroding your metal and causing all the "dirt" in your sink.

If you put sponge in microwave for 30 seconds after soaking they are good. You should keep the metal scrubber away from your other sponges while soaking.

I add my sponge to the dishwasher each evening. Mine comes out beautifully clean. ;) I have also put mine in soapy water squeeze it out a little and then put the sponge in the microwave for a minute to 90 seconds.

I microwave my sponge for two minutes. Sponge last longer if its done at least once a week. Make sure to get it wet before microwaving for obvious reasons. 😊

When I use a sponge it's usually with detergent, so it's getting cleaned, too. However, it stays damp, so I disinfect it once a week with a solution of chlorine bleach (dilution instructions on bottle).

I think the dirt was rust plus bits of the sponges that disintegrated in that strong vinegar. I would put them through the dishwasher and/or the microwave to sanitize.

I always give my sponges a good soap and rinse before and after use. I will soak them over night in bleach water after about a week or two depending on usage. I will use them another week or two and toss when they start to smell funky. I have a counter sponge and a dish sponge. I actually cut a regular sponge in half I cut the corner off the counter sponge and that's how I do that.

You can also just buy new ones cause they will mold over time and get grosser and grosser doesn't matter how much you "clean" them, I get rid of my sponges in like two weeks or so

I put mine in the ultrasonic cleaner with some oxygen bleach and make sure they are pressed and soaked full with the water so it works. They always come out squeaky clean.

I always wet my down, throw it in the microwave and let run for a minute. Then afterwards you have a sanitized sponge and you can clean the microwave because the moisture makes everything wipeable. That's how I was taught.

you know another trick to keep your sponges clean? replace them every 1-3 months. regardless of wether you 'clean' them, it will break down and be easily contaminated with bacteria.

put them in your washer with your dirty towels from your kitchen and boom everythings clean. those steel sponges are meant to be used until they fall apart or until they get full of grease and then you throw it out.. they rust, keep bacteria because metal clings onto it worse then anything.

The reason the water looked dirty was because she put a wire scouring pad in the water it's not floating cause it's wire and it's rusting so that's why the water looks like that. Not the sponges

I have knitted scrubbies. They have a knitted side and a Scrubby side and i use them and wassh them regularly in the washing machine. Way cleaner. I have several and just rotate them around. Washing after so many dishes. Way easier😅

Tablespoon of bleach in every sink of dish water. Problem solved. This is how it's done in professional restaurants because you can also sanitize your counters with it. Putting them in the dishwasher is also a great way to clean them. Not the steel wool, though...that will just rust, which is why your water looked dirty.
