Thank you for talking about this, I find that many artists don’t want to talk about the artwork that doesn’t go as planned. I think it’s important to realize that even if the piece doesn’t turn out how you hope, you can still learn from it. 😁

thank you, i was very hesitant to show this one. But we all have pieces that just don't work out!!! I think it's really important to know that even the "failures" have lessons we can learn from.

this is sooo important!! people on social media only see the good side of our work, the "perfect" drawings. they don't see all the failed drawings and bad sketches lol! rushing the process is my biggest issue, every time i try to do something fast or quick i ruin it 90% of the time lol

BrendaFOBRocks That’s my problem too I am trying to go to fast to see how it will turn out. Even though it looks ok it could be way better had I took more time.

@@sarahvestal4566 yes it's my biggest problem!! I rush through it instead of taking my time. I listen to audiobooks and that helped me slow things down since I would focus on the book and take my time, maybe that could help you out as well?

I think it's great that you talked about this piece, it makes the rest of us feel normal cos it is normal to not get every piece perfect. Maybe you can go back to it another time and finish it. So sorry to here about your job, you will be find in the end. I should know I've been made redundant 3 times 😏 but now happy in my current job I've been in for 4 years. 😊 hope all is well soon.

I had the same problem with Pastelmat. I contacted the the company I purchased a very large and expensive order from and the explanation is the Pastelmat in produced on a roll and that's why it curls. They were very accommodating because there were other production issues. They sent me a whole new order and I was able to keep the other for practise pieces. I prefer using water colour paper for my dog portraits for the fine detail but the amount of layering I can do is amazing. I spent 2 years painting daily and now when I look back I'm no longer embarrassed because I know those paintings taught me so much. It helps that time has passed. So sorry to hear about your job. I hope things will work out. I am really impressed with your honesty in sharing and putting yourself out there.

Thanks for sharing Cassandra. Their loss is our gain...maybe start an Etsy business or start teaching art at your local school or art& craft place...or just keep doing beautiful works and make us all happy. Nothing worse than trying to paint when your heart isn't in it, but even that's a plus for your audience. I also find redoing old art work the hardest of all. Maybe you could tell me how to cover old works with Gesso and NOT have the old paint bleed through. have tried sanding etc and have put on 3-4 coats of Gesso and still the purple acrylic comes through but its too big to just throw away...help... ;)...main thing is to stop!! take a breath!! and keep smiling.....have a happy day.

Cassandra, clearly we can see how talented you are, and finding out you lost your job would definitely knock your feet out from under you. I give you credit for even trying to work on something after receiving that news, but after all you are a true artist and wouldn’t let something like that stop you from creating, I can see how in someway it would help you. I’m sorry you lost your job, but I’m sure you will get a new one, especially with a resume of 13 years on this last job. Lastly, I wouldn’t have gone as far as you did with that piece of work, lol. It’s 3:10 am, so I apologize if nothing of this makes sense. God Bless, and good luck!

I know the feeling. I've got a few that I've abandoned and still not sure if I'll ever finish them. I just draw for fun and if it stops being fun and starts to feel like a chore, I can just move on to something else.

Its good that you can talk about what caused this frustration and the reason the piece never got where it was suppose to. I have had some tough times this year and lost my creative self but its the stress I have been under. I will begin again! You will come out of this and knock the next piece into a home run! Take Care and hope to see another beautiful work soon. Thanks for sharing ! 💗🌺

I made the exact same mistake you did with ordering the wrong pastelmat and I had the exact same issues you did. I live in Colorado where humidity is not an issue. I am not a huge fan of Pastelmat at all. I have even had the paper curl up on me. I use Arches Rough water color paper for my pastel pieces or Canson Pastel paper.

First of all, I'm so sorry to hear you lost your day job. I know how that must feel, having experienced that myself....:-/ As for the drawing: I have many drawings that turn out bad for similar reasons you mentioned in the video. It's nice to hear I'm not alone!

Have you tried lying the board upside down (surface down) then placing a towel on top and using your iron with steam to remove the warp? I've had this happen before and that's what I did and it worked. Anyways, keep up the great work!

Thanks for being so real! Sorry about your day job, maybe it's a sign to follow your art career? 😊 PS: I tried coloured pencil with pan pastel on pastelmat and failed miserably! I found the coloured pencil looked glossy and duller than the pan pastel!
